Longterm Hammock/Net Set Up
I’ve got this idea for a larger hammock that I can use as a two person bed. I’m annoyingly allergic to dust mites and am basically REQUIRED to vacuum my mattress once a week. I also have hip and back issues after the military and fall asleep like a baby in a hammock.
I’ve been highly recommended + inspired to give full time hammock sleeping a shot. However, I still enjoy the bed look. My partner would also still like to sleep near me. I don’t mind sleeping in separate hammocks, but wanted to see if I could make something different.
The first photo is similar to the netting I would use (maybe something smaller netting hole size. And the second photo is a sketch I made with a center line that could be tightened.
Any pros out there with advice/opinions? I’m all ears.

I think it's going to feel like laying on a trampoline more than a hammock. You might be able to diy a bridge hammock for a bed look.

You’ll still get dust mites if you build this, but you might get to push it to twice-ish a month instead of once a week. They will love the skin you scrape into the netting, but the surface area reduction will hopefully reduce numbers. Your bedding will attract the same number as before, so your laundry and sheet change regiment will remain unchanged, or possibly go up, and the mattress will not absorb as much. The comfort of these can be decent, but it’s not something that everyone’s cup of tea. You have to replace the netting after a certain amount of use and weathering, but if you live in a wet area it’s going to come faster than if you lived in a dry one. You’ll also have to get used to the difference in how a bed cushions or hold you. Some people love the “nothing beneath them” feeling. And some lose sleep.
Good luck, I think you’ll have a better sleep, but also should try regular two person hammocks, just for checking your comfort.

i think this would not be comfortable. liking the bed look seems like a silly reason to DIY a bad hammock. if you want the benefits just get a good hammock otherwise try to make your bed situation better

My question is what about it would be bad? A lot of folks recommend a flat section to lay in, or lay in it diagonally. You could do that here with both sides. What about this would not be beneficial

hammocks are comfortable because you’re hanging and the weight is distributed in a specific way due to the cut of the hammock and the way you position yourself in it; what you’re proposing isn’t a hammock, it’s like a rope grid mattress which is gonna feel like a mattress with way more pressure points i would guess?
i’ve been on something like this that was built into an airbnb loft for children to play on and it was not comfortable like a hammock
before trying this i would suggest giving an actual hammock a try, i think it’ll make it more clear why just any taut fabric is not a hammock

Is the goal of the center line the separation of two sleeping troughs?
