No Spoilers [NO SPOILERS] Rewatching the series and only now realizing how much I actually hate Littlefinger. What's your most hated character?
Something about a rewatch hits differently. First time through, I was too caught up in the big moments to really sit with how quietly awful Littlefinger is in almost every scene, this time around it's impossible to miss and it's driving me a little insane.
Curious what your most hated character is (doesn't have to be from my little lineup here), and whether a rewatch ever flipped your opinion on someone, for better or worse.

Everything in that picture is awful, though I consider Thorne to be...different. He did what he thought was right (and he was more right than wrong about many a thing) and his experiences at as well as beyond the Wall put him apart from the others shown.
If I had to pick amongst the other 8, the High Sparrow. I have such disdain for that man
I find something decidedly unpleasant about religious extremism and more so from a faith that feels so manufactured as The Seven are. The others are cruel, yes, or even grasping in Littlefinger's case but cloaking oneself in righteousness so they can be cruel without the shame of it feels so much more a perversion than being simply honest with cruelty from the get go.

Great point on Thorne. And agreed on the High Sparrow, he barely has that much screen time, but he still manages to make you feel sympathy for Cersei at points, and considering everything she's done, that's genuinely impressive 🤣

That was kind of what Cersi said to the acolyte that tortured her after the tables turned. Cersi was like “I like being a sadist. You do too but just won’t admit it.”

Actually Kind of renly. He presents himself as righteous and enlightened (and dumb and dumber agree with him lol) but is ready to Ruin the entire realm to usurp His Brother because of His self-obsession

Ramsay. I hate obvious villains in any show or movie. Is the "you must hate this character because writers want you to hate it" kind of villain that I find forced and hard to believe. Joffrey or Cersei instead, are good villains because they have motivations or reasons behind their behavior other than "I'm a sadistic fuck and I have no limits". Hell, many people love Tywin but he is one of the worst villains ever known (for example he commands The Mountain to burn entire cities after Ser Amory death, so people "see what happen when they chose the wrong side"). Tywin is miles worse of a scumbag than Ramsay, but his motivations sound more interesting for a show/movie than "I'm a sick fuck and writers want you to hate me". And yeah, I do know there are sick fucks in real life, just like Ramsay. The thing is, those are not interesting characters for a fantasy show and it feels like just poor writing, in my head that is.
His death gives me no satisfaction, and I was glad his stupid plot finally finishes. He is a big reason why I stop watching the show at S4E10. I don't hate him because he is a villain (Joffrey is a villain yet I love the character, I mean, I love to hate him), I hate him because I feel it's cheap bad writing
On the contrary, Theon is a character that I love more and more with every rewatch. I definitely think Alfie Allen's acting was by far the best acting on the show. I think his role was obviously the most difficult for acting, and he absolutely nailed it

Agree on a lot of things you said here, but really came to big up Theon and Alfie Allen. Terrific acting all round, particularly in facial expressions I found, and I feel like his later scenes overshadowed the brilliance of his earlier development. I will never not love the scene of Theon executing Rodrick, and the shear pain you can see in his own face as he does it yet simultaneously knowing he a) can't look weak in front of his men, and b) absolutely cannot go back to the way things were before after crossing this line. Topped with Ramin Djawadi's score in that? Fuck.

The Waif has no redeeming moments as a character. Ramsay’s at least entertaining. Thorne at least has a code.
The Waif just pointless and annoying.

Jeoffery forever. The actor did such a good job I still hate him even when he’s in other roles.

He was incredible, and I agree that everywhere I see him, I think of that character and hate him. I think it defined his entire career.

My hate for Cerci made me stay until the bitter end of that wretched season 8. What a letdown tho

u/TheCapableFox 5d ago
Ah a fellow Cersei hater. I will join you in waiting for her a horrifying and bitter end. Perhaps it will still come in the books..

Arya was a fun character to begin with but in the later seasons she's just smug as hell and I started hating any scene she was in
2
u/kevtargaryen93 7d ago
Right? As soon as Clegane and arya went different ways, arya began the little shit phase

Rast, Janos Slynt and Meryn Trant. Hate all of them a billion times more than Ramsay or Cersei and they all metaphorically or literally got killed by a wolf

I dont really hate anyone if i had to say someone i guess littlefinger . Or maybe bronn. I liked him in early seasons but his plot armor in the last ones were too much. Plus the scene where he threatened to kill jamie and tyrion was ridiculous. And ending up as master of coin and lord of highgarden even more so.

Rewatches really do expose the quiet villains more than the loud ones tho, littlefinger just slithers through every scene and somehow I missed it first time. My most hated is probably Joffrey cause every rewatch I just get more mad at how everyone around him enables that little monster. But Theon flipped for me on rewatch, went from annoying traitor to one of the saddest dudes in the whole story. So yeah sometimes the show makes you hate someone new, sometimes it makes you feel bad for someone you already wrote off.

That septon was soooooo arrogant. Reminded me of someone so it triggered me every time he opened his mouth. Filthy personality

Ramsay. I skipped his scenes almost every time. Coz i was afraid of what he is going to do. My lil brain gets traumatised easily

u/mkultra7777 6d ago
The phrase “hate the game not the player” was probably made for littlefinger. And we all LOVE the game. Littlefinger is better at the game than nearly everyone in Westeros (I only see Tyrion and Varys as the exceptions). Ramsay, Beylon, and Walder Frey are easily more despicable characters than Littlefinger.

Cersei will never be topped as my most hated character. Not only was she even worse in the books than in the show but Lena Headey played her so well that it made Cersei my permanent #1 most hated character in all of ASOIAF.
That resting bitch face smirk she nearly ALWAYS had on her face (especially when she was being cruel to someone or thinking to herself how brilliant she is) just triggered something in me constantly that made me wanna punch her face and I have nonstop prayed for her character a horrid downfall. Lmao

my top 5 least favourite characters are
1: arya stark
2: arya stark
3: arya stark
4: arya stark
5: that chick arya stark kills
this one character is a shining example of the showrunners not understanding/caring about what theyre adapting

Cersei. As a books fan, I hate her because she’s just straight up stupid. She plays the game of thrones by creating more and more instability, giving her what she wants short term but screwing her over in the long term. Tywin arranged Margarey to marry Joffrey and then Tommen to keep them on good terms with house Tyrell, who were by far the biggest threat to the Lannisters but also the most useful potential allies. Cersei rips that apart by constantly conspiring against Margaery and (in the show at least) that culminates in the death of her last son, so she committed dynastic suicide to get rid of someone she didn’t like. The only reason Joffrey got poisoned is because he was raised by Cersei to be an insufferable and sadistic tyrant who is a threat to everyone when he has a crown. Had Cersei and Robert raised him to be a decent king and not an entitled brat even the fact that he was born of incest wouldn’t shake him from the throne.

The stark kids. Except Rob

Nice point of view, surely not so common🔝

Everyone has his or her own tastes
Many of the 'bad' guys were written great and the acting was great to. I loved joffrey for example.
I loved little fingee in the earlier seasons. The way he plots. The guy acted great as well.
2
u/DigitalGarden_ 7d ago
Yeah, but the fact that I hate him, means that he is written and interpreted perfectly 🔝

u/henkie_poepjes 7d ago
I interpret hate as hate to see on the screen.
1
u/DigitalGarden_ 7d ago
Exactly, if a character is written and performed specifically to make the audience feel hate, and I genuinely feel that hate, that's the writing and acting doing exactly what they set out to do. Doesn't mean I enjoy watching him though 🤣 I still want to reach through the screen half the time.

Robb is the worst one. What are you talking about
3
u/henkie_poepjes 7d ago
Rob was the most believable character.of the stark kids.
All the others had to much plot armour or/and did not feel human at all.

Sans jugement, vous lui trouvez quoi de fou Rob ?
Je le trouvais si insipide avec son histoire d'amour gnan-gnan

u/SorRenlySassol 7d ago
He’s tame compared to what book Petyr will get up to if the series is ever finished.

Catelyn, if you honestly beleive a bastard is going to usurp your son, maybe treating him like shit and constantly trying to fuck with him isnt the best idea to ensure safety, seems like a good way to convince him to ACTUALLY do something in spite of your action

Sansa and Sam. Hypocrisy and Oathbreaker.
Both justify their righteousness/cruelty/game for their own suffering. They cannot see that other people suffered too. And they claim honor when their greatest feats are achieved through lies, breaking oaths.
Sansa (broke her oath in the heart tree, lied to the Vale when Baelish was investigated, lied to Robb to save herself and said she was young)
Sam (broke every single oath in the watch)
If people knew about how the Starks, specifically Brandon Stark, Ned Stark, Holster Tully, and Edmure Tully bullied Littlefinger, it doesn’t justify his actions but it explains it.

I think i watched the series like 7 times and personally i could never stand Shae and Catelyn Stark.
I will also add my favorite and we are talking strictly show wise now. Tywin Lannister! Charles dance did a wonderful job.

Ramsay and little finger are ones I got sick of seeing on the screen fairly quickly, i dont really know why, its not the villain thing cause I liked most of the others in the cast.

I see a couple people stated Ramsey(which I totally get), but surprised no one has mentioned Joffrey? (I think the actor playing Joffrey was excellent)

Euron Grejoy, great book character but the show ruined him, completely miscast with terrible dialogue. He is supposed to be one nightmarishly terrifying dude. He comes across like andrew tate.

Catelyn Stark. I never liked her or the way she treated Jon. I also don't like Samwell Tarly and would have been ok with him being killed off. I also grew to dislike Bronn as well.

I’ve been thinking about that recently and I wonder if she ever truly believed Neds story. I wonder if what bothers her more is that he is important but that ned would rather claim he had an affair than tell her the truth. In some ways she might see that as a worse trust break. I know the answer is “plot” but considering how close they were and truly in love I’m surprised ned didn’t tell her. Or say he was an orphan he found along the road or something. I’m not sure if this is true to the books but if anything the actor looks like Robert Baratheon his hair is almost black far darker than Robb.

Ramsay, Job punching him was so satisfying
