No Spoilers [NO SPOILERS] Confusion in family tree of House Targaryen
I've just finished Game of Thrones and started watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and the names of House Targaryen members, is so confusing i can't watch AKotSK properly...and i haven't watched House of Dragons as well...so if there is someone who can help me out with the Targaryen family, It'd be a great favor.

Well you have to drop a specific question
But anyways
-Aegon VI (Jon Snow) is Egg’s Great-Great Grandchild.
-Maekar is Aegon VI’s 3x grand father
-AKOTSK is set 70-80 years after HOTD. King Daeron II is Rhaenyra’s Great Grandchild through Aegon IV, Her grandson to Viserys II
-Egg Is the Future Aegon V And the Great Grand Father to Daenerys
-a small fact he was burnt alive trying to revive dragons
If you’re wondering why Aegg became king it’s because Valarr and Matarys died the same year as their grandad. And then His uncle Aerys (not shown in the series) Died without a child.
They passed on Rhaegel the third son and his children for Maekar. Then Maekar died Coouncil chooses Egg the only one who agreed to become king.

If he hasn't watched a knight of the seven kingdoms , he probably doesn't know who Egg is

He said he had watched AKOTSK but doesn’t understand who is whom

" I can't watch Akotsk properly and I haven't watched House of Dragons AS WELL".
I must have misunderstood. I took that as him saying that he can't watch it because he doesn't know who the characters are and that's why he hasn't watched house the dragons either.
He said he started watching the knights of the seven kingdom so I just took that as him watching the first episode or something and then giving up , because again he doesn't know who any of the characters are.
And thankfully , that show doesn't waste a lot of time explaining who characters are which I love.

ur right He probably have no idea who are these people in the AKOTSK. They barely mentioned them. Actually did they even mentioned that generation

I think one of the reasons why I loved that one so much , and it's probably one of the most popular seasons in the entire game of thrones universe is because they don't waste a lot of time explaining who the characters are. They kind of have expectations that if you're watching this , you have some idea of what's going on and I love that.
I mean to me , one of the worst scenes in all of game of thrones is in the first episode where I think it's santa is explaining to aria off screen , who robert and the queen and all the people are.
Exposition for the audience , because they think we're too stupid to figure it out

Ohh yess.. that scene. It wasn’t really that hard for me since I have a few knowledge about GOT before watching the shows. But I like the fact they just casually introduced them

i think...i should also watch House of dragons to really understand all of it....

Not really. When you finally understand the lore of the whole ASOIAF you’ll realize that not all of this matters. Just Check AWOIAF page since ai isn’t always accurate

Google has family trees. I mean it’s more a trunk cuz they’re all making babies with family members. It’s a long, thick ass trunk of incest. Lol

I heard a historian talk about cleopatra and he described her family tree as the “family pole”. It reminds me of what you said

that was genuinely helpful....people are saying that just search it on google and shit, but it just creates more questions...leading to more complications, that's why i stopped using AIs as movies decoders..
thanks for this...1

There's only a few of them that are actually important to the story.
Mostly Viseryus as his kids fought over his crown that is the story of House of Dragons.
The Mad King, Aerys the second, whose actions are what led to the original game of thrones show.
The others are part of a knight's of the seven kingdoms , but without ruining a storyline , their lineage isn't that important and it kind of gets explained pretty well when it is.
They're basically the royal family of westeros , and they inbreed , so about half of them are literally insane , and the other half are just spoiled and bored and rich.
It's like in the United States.I think there's been like forty five presidents , but there's only a handful of actually matter

Okay, so akotsk takes place a small hundred years before the events of Agot.
The king is Daeron II Targaryen (son of Aegon IV). Daeron and his sister Daenerys are both married to Martells (which is how they got Dorne to become part of the Seven Kingdoms). Daeron has four sons.
His heir Baelor "Breakspear" Targaryen, has Dornish features and has two sons, Valarr and Matarys.
His second son is Aerys (a different one from the Mad King), who's a huge bookworm. He's childless because he's too busy reading.
His third son is Rhaegel. He's a bit of a weirdo, but also kind. He has a son and two daughters (none of which are really important to the story).
His fourth son is Maekar, who's a martial hardass. He has six children Daeron "the Drunk" Targaryen, Aerion "Brightflame" Targaryen, Aemon Targaryen (who's studying to be a Maester) and Aegon Targaryen. Plus two daughters, Daella and Rhae (also not very important for now).
Baelor and Maekar are both at Ashford with their sons, so they're the only ones you really have to remember.

sorry if it bothered you,
wiki, google, AIs, doesn't gives clarity to me that much as a real person gives...so i asked it here2
u/Aggravating_Pause385 18d ago
The information is easily available, you’re just asking for it to be spoon fed to you. At the same time, you’ve totally refused to ask anything specific

The wiki has a really great, basically interactive family tree, you can start at anyone and then work your way up and down, just avoid reading the actual outline of their life if you want to avoid spoilers

Te recomiendo que busques el árbol familiar directamente en internet. Porque se vuelve confuso rápido y más si no conoces a lo personaje

When my group of guys watched and rewatched all of the different series we would pause pretty often and consult a family tree image to help us keep track of who came from who and how everyone is related. Lots of info out there that can help.

Its pretty long and complicated. Did you have a specific question in mind or were you looking for a general order of succession?
