Found these gold coins

About a year ago my grand mother passed awag and I was going through some boxes and I found these gold coins. Are they worth anything? Or just their weight in gold? (Google is telling me about 4500 a piece but that’s just because of their weight. I also found a gold omega which was my great, great grandfather’s. Mostly excited about that. Not to sell, but to have.

A McDonald’s Big Mac cost about 300 mg of gold around 2001. By January 2026, it was roughly 40 mg.

That means the same amount of gold buys about 7.5 times as many Big Macs now.

Slabbed gold this time: my aureus of Emperor Nero, minted around 66 AD. Graded NGC Choice XF 4/5 strike, 5/5 surface. Coin possible came from the Boscoreale hoard

I'm not a fan of the slab, but I'll keep Nero in his plastic prison for the time being. I picked up this coin a few months ago.

Pedigree:

Leu Numismatic, auction 12, lot 1062 (2022)

From the collection of Dipl.-Ing. Adrian Lang, ex Hirsch 279, 8 February 2012, 2310 and Aufhäuser 13, 7-8 October 1997, 304, and very likely from the Boscoreale Hoard of 1895.

Everyone has nice looking coins but my ounces look like this. Is it worth it to pay the extra to get coins? Seen Canadian ounce coins for once in the shop

Question Lil backstory & 1st time buyer

Told an uncle way back in the mid 90s I was gonna stack gold. Long story short he said it was the worst idea ever; I valued his opinion and never bought a grain.

This uncle passed last week which got me thinking of picking up some kinda 1/4oz in remembrance. Been looking at coins/bullion online & found a highly reviewed LCS, likely where I'll buy from.

Guess my question is are there any recommendations of what to look for or get?

Hey guys, I really want to learn about gold. Like there’s so many coins such as American gold eagle coin (random year) then Canadian gold maple leaf coin ( random year) both are 1oz but a $200 difference from jmbullion.
Can you guys share your learning experience or like a source/video on how I can learn? What’s best for the buck

Hi all, have you guys noticed that Mint Bulider increased their extra charge if you are using a credit card? It used to be 2-4 percent and now it’s more than %6.5!! Is that a glitch or what?

An ancient Instagram post: political messaging in a nearly 2,000 year old coin of Emperor Claudius. 7.72 grams of gold.

This is my most recent pick-up. I took it out of its NGC slab. This was graded Choice VF, 5/5, 4/5 “Fine Style” designation.
When Emperor Caligula was assassinated by the Praetorian Guards, his uncle, Claudius, hid behind a curtain in the royal palace. When the Praetorian Guards found him, they proclaimed him emperor and took him to their fortified camp for protection.

Claudius then rewarded the guards handsomely and secured their support. But how do you tell the Roman world you're the new emperor? No newspapers, no TV, no Instagram. You mint coins!

This Claudius IMPER RECEPT  gold coin carries a message that can be translated as “The Emperor Received,” commemorating Claudius being accepted by the Praetorian Guard. The reverse depicts their fortified camp, with a soldier standing guard.

These coins weren't just money. They were miniature pieces of political messaging, circulating throughout the empire and reinforcing the story of how Claudius came to power.

Best item to buy (1 oz)

I have an ounce of gold already, just in smaller portions (5gx2,10g,1g,7g) but I have 10,000 in my checking account and want to put some into gold. I was going to do a full bar but the premium on JM bullion seems to be higher on bars than coins. Just wondering what others do for opinions. I do not have a Costco membership

The dragon & phoenix are my favorite ones. Circa 1995. I’ve seen price vary on these, thought about taking them to San Jose for appraisal
