Many of you likely noticed that user-assigned flairs have been disabled in this subreddit. This action has been undone, and users are once more able to assign their own flairs - I honestly do not know why they were disabled or who did it.
In attempt to rectify this mistake, I am posting our first flair request thread in over 5 years! Time sure does fly.
In this thread, by commenting your birth-year, you will be automatically flaired -- it's that simple.
Approved birth-years for this thread include 1995-2012.
If there are any issues with your flair, please reach out to the moderators via modmail.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU COMMENT YOUR BIRTH-YEAR ONLY. COMMENTS INCLUDING ANY OTHER CONTENT WILL BE REMOVED.

It’s been over a year since we banned gender war posts, and after monitoring the community, we’ve decided to keep the ban in place, as these discussions continue to be just as toxic as they were a year ago.
For clarity, “gender war” content includes discussions such as male loneliness, Gen Z men approaching Gen Z women, incels, femcels, alpha males, Andrew Tate, red pill, black pill, purple pill content, men’s height discourse, age-gap dating, and broader “looks-based” or hierarchy discussions about dating, looks maxing or ranking people by attractiveness or dating value.
This also includes broader dating ideology content that frames relationships in an adversarial, or fatalistic way.
For example: men vs women narratives, claims that one gender is universally responsible for dating issues, or that dating is inherently doomed for a specific group. Generalizations that treat either gender as a monolith are not allowed.
Memes about these topics, posts complaining about dating, and rage-bait content taken from other platforms such as screenshots from TikTok or Twitter that exist primarily to provoke gender-based arguments.
This is not a dating-focused subreddit. If you want to vent or discuss Gen Z dating issues more broadly, please use communities such as [r/dating_advice](r/dating_advice) or [r/dating](r/dating).
That said, posts about dating are still allowed as long as they are made in good faith. If comment sections become hostile or devolve into rule-breaking behavior, posts may be locked or removed at moderator discretion.
Please respect and follow this rule moving forward.

Crazy dropoff of likes, posts, and reposts by Russian bots across Twitter and probably all other social media sites since yesterday. not seeing as much right-wing slop in the UK myself and we have big Z-dog and Ukraine to thank since they're striking Yandex data centers.
In short, fuck data centers

i'm 23, apprentice electrician, not easy work and not great pay but its what im good at. anyway i noticed the social security thing where every dollar i make gets the tax taken out, all year, every check. but if youre making enough i guess you hit some cap early and the rest of the year nothing comes out?? same system, just stops for them and keeps going for me, because that makes sense.
everybody my age has heard that social security isn't going to be a thing by the time we're old. but i just did some research and it seems like it doesn't have to be that way, if only politicians would pass the right policy. the studies i found say taxing income above it the same as everything under it covers nearly 80% of the gap for the next 75 years. the program isnt dying, it sounds like its just being undercharged for?
so when someone says social security wont exist by the time we're old, i feel like we're just making the choice to give up rather than do our research and vote for people who will pass good policy.
my foreman bought a house at 24 on one income doing this same job in 1998. i did the math on my apprenticeship pay and id need three of me to qualify for what he got alone. the system is so broken in so many ways and i dont know why our generation continues to be so passive. at the very least, we need to get out and vote so our voices are heard.

I noticed something in the last few weeks: when I go to the gym, I always see people my age or younger, rarely beyond. At first glance, it seems like a good thing. Gen Z is the most active generation ever the majority is working out 2-3 times a week, but for the wrong reason. Self-optimisation. It's not new that people are working out to look good and attract others, but the narrative has changed.
Nowadays, people think they NEED to work out to attract others, including myself M22. For me, fitness isn't important because of the health or vitality benefits, no, because it makes you more attractive. I know it's highly problematic for mental health, but somehow most of us don't care. When I swipe through dating apps, most girls put gym mirror selfies in their profiles (it's the same with boys). Looks in our generation are getting more and more important. I'm not on TikTok, thank God, but I watch many YouTubers who analyse and comment on certain TikTok trends, and it's embarrassing that self-optimization and self-presentation are so important for some people. Like when you go to the gym and post your progress in your Insta story, why??? Is it for the girls? Is it for the boys? Why are people so obsessed with how they look?
Is there some kind of competition? As a matter of fact, there is one, and it's the one against yourself. Reaching for ideals we probably will never reach destroys our individuality and self-esteem. In the age of social media, most girls and most boys look all the same. Dating became a pick-and-choose, and most of the time no one is getting picked. For a sexless generation, as the newspapers call us (which is a very one-sided view of us), for whom we actually optimizing for?

This sub’s had a problem with racism bait & anti migrant posts, look at the recent posts surrounding the riots in France. Now the Russian Bots are gone, I don’t see those posts today. Coincidence? I think NOT

what would it be?
This phrase I hear people say and have been told the phrase (when it comes to finding a partner) that “it will happen when you least expect it”. I’m tired of hearing that.
The reason why I feel it’s dumb and doesn’t help is that it usually comes from people that are in relationships and feels like just a soulless comforting phrase.
Secondly of all, if I live my life exactly how I do and genuinely don’t think about it, it still won’t happen. In reality I, and probably most, would actually have to put some effort into it. If not then nothing will happen and I would be single for life

I saw people complaining about the gen z stare online. I am older Gen Z, and when I thought about it, I realized I have never experienced the stare. I have no clue what these older generations are talking about. Is it possible there isn't really a stare at all? And there's just more subtle communication that we get but they don't? I have no clue what these people are talking about.

The majority of the lib arts students I graduated with are working as paralegals and teachers, many going on to law or medical school. Nobody is "rich," but they are young, can afford to live in desirable cities, and are visibly upwardly mobile in terms of capital. Most will likely go on to have decent middle to upper middle class lives in PMC and professional fields.
If you have a degree in gender studies, you have demonstrated you can probably read and write analytically, which is desirable in professions requiring reading and writing skills. I think the "employment market" value of a degree comes with how good you are at networking and knowing how to work the system. If you have a STEM degree and lack soft skills, you will struggle in ways a lesbian dance theory PHD student with connections and charisma will not. Half of the STEM majors in my life are living at home with their mothers unemployed, or struggling to find work. Computer science is an oversaturated field, and much of entry level CS is being outsourced overseas or threatened by AI. The most successful STEM people in my life have liberal arts backgrounds, and they obtained their jobs through summer internships and networking.
I have never heard a happy person call the humanities useless, nor anyone I would actually trust for wisdom when push comes to shove. I honestly think the demonization of humanities as "useless" is a ploy to keep young people out of places of power and influence, and a splash of crab bucket mentality. If you can read well and argue well, you are less vulnerable to exploitation. Read the Great Books and fuck "production" culture.

another Monday another crisis. so full time was supposed to cover the basics, thats the whole promise, you show up and you get to live. but instead you show up and rent eats the big half, groceries get the small half, and the whole check is gone before week 3, so you figure out which thing bounces softest, AND my manager keeps telling me to budget better while scheduling me 22 hours a week.
and nobody here is buying too much starbucks, pay just flatlined while everything else kept climbing. my mom had this job and paid for night school on it, I have the same job and I'm hoping venmo hits before the gas bill does.a living wage that actually covers housing, which is the biggest fix and the deal that was supposed to exist before we got here. they treat 7.25 like its still 2009 and congress wonders why nobody's having kids, seriously.
I don't think anything's changing unless we get seriously political.

I think it’s getting exhausting because I’ve been trying since I was 17 but I failed four times already. It’s not a particularly nice feeling to get out of especially when you have performance anxiety when the examiner is in the car. I don’t know what to do because I am better when I’m with my instructor, but I just can’t get out of doing it right just to pass with the examiner. Fucking sucks.
like I’m not trying to stop myself because I don’t wanna go back to how I was when I was a teen, I took gaps after failing, but I’m back, and really just wanna cross over this and I’m working a full-time job so it makes everything harder now.
Is it worth it to get private instructors that could work around my schedule? Most of the time I get home around at 6 PM.
I have a car fund and I feel like I should just buy the car and practice and when I have time, but that’s another hurdle because registration and everything ….

Hello, I am not Gen Z. I am 35. I come in peace lol.
I have been very curious about Gen Z fashion over the past few months. This is a super broad generalization and certainly doesn't apply to *everyone* but I have noticed that there aren't a lot of distinctive styles among Gen Z. And then I thought, maybe there are but I just don't see them or know the terminology.
From my perspective, I see a lot of what I call "watered down alt", sometimes vibrant colored hair, sometimes a facial piercing, baggy clothes, sometimes in dull colors, comfort over everything. This is just what I see in real life in my area. It reminds me of clothing depressed teenagers would wear in the mid 2000s. I am not hating!!!!!! I have been there and maybe that's why I feel that way.
I know Y2K stuff is popular and I've seen touches of that over the past few years. But I've only seen that in the silhouettes of clothing, not necessarily in the way they're styled if that makes sense.
What are the distinctive Gen Z styles?
If you're Gen Z, please tell me what you like to wear and how you developed your personal style.
