he shed again and it was still plugged so decided to try the tweezers and success! i got the whole plug out. it was solid, idk how many sheds had built up (hes 3 years old i just got him a few weeks ago).

even kept his tail through the whole ordeal and all his skin šŸ˜‚šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø can't say the same for me though, he got 2 good bites in before i grabbed the glove.

i think he appreciated it once i started because he held still and didnt try to bite or wiggle while i went at his ear with the tweezers, must have felt nice to get it out finally!!

Help/Advice what are you feeding your adult chameleon geckos?

• Upvotes

pretty much all roach species are illegal where i live, and i don't really want to deal with breeding crickets.

i know males often lose interest in insects, and i do plan to get a male, but what other options for feeders do i have? regularly going to the store to get feeders isnt super feasible for me, and neither is having them delivered super often... so what's my next best options, if anything?

Help/Advice Mike the medi

someone found this little dude at my job and i decided to take him home. I did a bunch of research so i am aware of the debate of invasive/non-native on medis so i figured might as well welcome him into my tropical plant collection corner of my room. Mike is extremely small and i am extremely broke so i got some starter gear and a little enclosure to keep him happy until i can give him more room and we can get comfortable with each other! any tips on care? i put two flightless flys seasoned with calcium for him to snack on tn for the first night and he’s climbing around in there right now.

Slimey has been with me since Friday and was exploring his tub that night.

It's so interesting to see the potential difference between a shipped gecko and a local gecko.

Oscar has been with me since Wednesday but is still pretty shy.

I built an 18x18x24 enclosure but was nervous about putting my 4 month old(both of them are 4 months old) in there. He is LOVING the mansion.

Found this little gal on a big shipping crate at work. No idea how far she's traveled, but she seems healthy. Looking for a home, too. (She's currently in a paper cup until I get home from work)

Help/Advice are any new caledonian gecko species, or similar lizards, able to be ethically kept without regularly feeding live insects?

i've seen some mixed opinions on this. many people say it's fine, as long as you're feeding powdered diet with insects in it, others say it's definitely not.

of course, i'm sure it depends on the species, but speaking generally or if there's specific species that would do much better without insects --- would it be realistic?

to be clear, i'm asking because im (maybe) considering getting a gecko, and while i'm not opposed to insects (i keep isopods & plan to get more inverts as pets, so i'm not grossed out by them or anything), i can't really regularly go to the pet store to get live insects every week or so. i don't want to breed meal worms or crickets, and roaches are illegal where i live; so i'm not sure if there's any insects i could realistically breed as feeders either.

so, i'm wondering if i NEED to feed insects often, or if there's species where it'd be okay only on occasion, while regularly feeding powdered diet with insects.

also, if there's other, non-new caledonian species of geckos or other small lizards that would fit this criteria, while also being handleable... i'd be interested to hear about them!

i'm ofc doing research into this outside of asking here, but i figured it wouldn't hurt to get your guys opinions :)

Help/Advice How to start handling a Tokay Gecko

Thumbnail

For context I bought her at a reptile expo Astrid is my baby and will eat around my hand comfortably and is used to seeing me from her tank. Ive had her about a year since I bought her and so im looking to start holding her. She isn't a full adult she was a baby when I got her and has definitely grown. She lives in a bio active enclosure with a rain system and eats dubia roaches and meal worms and sometimes horn worms. Also yes im 100% willing to be bitten i bought her knowing full well they are aggressive and thats why I love them. But what are the first handling steps?

Enclosures Help with enclosure setup please!

So I currently have a northern BTS and they’re not really climbers. I’m used to setting up enclosures for horizontal spaces with not many climbing opportunities. I’m getting a 6 week old leachie and I’m having the hardest time figuring out how to set this enclosure up so she has sturdy climbing opportunities and plenty of clutter but also isn’t getting too close to the UVB? I’m worried the branches are going to fall over or they’re not tall enough. She’s super small, so I have her starting out in a small enclosure until she grows per the breeders recommendation. However, I have heard mixed/differing information about whether that’s the correct route to go, so curious for experiences with that too. Any help/product recommendations is greatly appreciated.

I've had several species of geckos in the past 18 years or so, but mostly Tokays. Decided to try a new species; G. pradapdao. Keeping them a bit smaller for now in a 50 x 50 x 80cm viv to see if they do well, if they do I'll be moving them to a bigger enclosure in the future.
