Questions Does anyone here have Ghostbusters 2 for GameBoy? I just bought this cartridge and it has a weird sticker, no Nintendo logos inside and one of the pin clearly got re-soldered. Is this an original cartridge?

That is definitely a bootleg cart. But looks like an older bootleg, which is still kind of cool. Also what a random game to make a fake of.

Here's an authentic cart for comparison. They have images of the PCB. Also, did not realize this was a more expensive gameboy game.

Maybe in the US, but here in europe it's pretty common for 15-20 bucks

I cloud miss-remember but I think German version was a separate version to European version of Ghostbusters 2. It would explain the difference but maybe we are talking about different games here.

Definitely fake. Although kinda cool imo since it's an OG bootleg from "back in the day" rather than a modern AliExpress repro. Made with hand soldering and not using a flash chip either, that's an EPROM chip.

P.S. That sticker on the large chip is covering up a transparent window and the sticker is blocking light from reaching the window. Do not peel it off, the data in the chip (the game ROM) will be erased if the window underneath the sticker exposed to light.

It would be interesting if you are able to dump this and see if the ROM has any changes from the official version of the game (sometimes there are patches for games that are supposed to save data or run with a different MBC version). Also back in the day some bootlegs featured extra intro screens that weren't in the original.

Thanks for warning me about the sticker, tho the seller will refund me once I ship it back so I wont touch this cartridge again anytime soon. I played the game enough to not notice any difference from the original rom. I doubt there is anything special about it

Ese cartucho se ve sospechosamente como una reproductñcion no oficial, no creo equivocarme porque las placas de Nintendo y sus componentes son identificables con sus logos e impresiones de calidad

That bunk a$$ IC gives it away. Jeeze, did they not think anyone was gonna look?

No.

Back in the day no one was going around opening Gameboy carts (special screwdriver and all) so it only had to look passable from the outside. Most likely whoever bought this originally didn't know it was fake and OP is the first person to open it up and find out.

He didn’t buy it back in the day 🤦 Unless the person he bought it from has held it a long time, then THEY knew it was bunk.

That's what I'm saying. The person that OP bought it from likely bought it back in the day possibly as a kid and didn't know it was fake and is now selling their old games. If they've had the game since a kid and now they're just some random person clearing out their attic they aren't going to stop and think "huh, I wonder if this one is fake" since at a glance it looks passable on the outside.
