Results Day Post Results Support/Guidance/Review Of Marking Etc.
So, you’ve opened your results, and you have some questions. Please read through these points below and then ask any questions that haven’t been answered.
Firstly, linked here are the JCQ guidelines for post results services that the exam boards have to follow: https://www.jcq.org.uk/exam-results-data/post-results/
This is where all the information comes from. It’s pretty similar every year.
What can you ask for when you get your results?
- Access to scripts
- Clerical recheck
- Review of results (wrongly called a remark)
- Reviews of moderation
Explanation of each:
Access to Scripts - you can ask your exams officer to download a copy of your GCSE papers. There should be an established process on how to do this. Some schools charge, which they can do. That is a school decision. They will email you a copy of the exam papers, but this may take several weeks depending on how big demand is.
Clerical Recheck - not often used. It’s for when an access to script has shown a clear miscalculation of marks and the numbers need adding up again and the new overall marks confirmed.
Review of Results (not remark) - this is where a school requests a paper is reviewed by the exam board to see if there is a change in marks awarded. Normally this is to see if the marks go up into the next grade boundary. Notes on this specifically:
- A student has to give consent for this to happen.
- Some schools pay for their reviews, other schools ask the students/parents to pay. The charge is PER PAPER and is around £50. The review of marking is free of charge if the overall grade changes, NOT just the marks.
- MARKS CAN GO UP OR DOWN DURING A REVIEW OF MARKING. So in theory, you could have an 8 reviewed and it go to a 7. It does happen.
- There will always be some freak cases where someone gains 20 marks and goes up 3 grade boundaries. The examiners can make mistakes. Please don’t assume it will happen to you as it’s insanely unlikely.
- In the last 9 years, the average success rate in my school for a grade increase is 13%. Not great odds.
- At my school, anything higher than AT MOST 4 MARKS from the next boundary we don’t submit for a review. If it’s a unique scenario where we’ve accessed the scrip and can see something has been missed by the examiner we may consider higher than 4 marks away, but it’s very unlikely.
4) Review of Moderation - these are for your coursework/NEA units. If you as a singular person have ended up just below the grade boundary for your GCSE Art, you CAN'T request a review. Your time to review was before the marks were submitted to the exam board back in May when your teacher (should have) told you have marks you had achieved. A Review of Moderation happens when a whole cohort has had their marks adjusted by the exam board and the school can request to have it reviewed and their original marks instated. It’s an all or nothing sort of scenario where the whole sample gets reviewed. It’s not something that can be done on an individual basis. It’s not something that will be done if your marks haven’t changed from May.
TLDR: 13% chance of success in a “remark”, which is actually called a Review of Marking. We don’t review unless a paper is at the very most 4 marks away from the upper grade boundary.

Announcement Exam Access Arrangements
There’s an increase in posts about access arrangements.
There’s also a lot of misinformation about access arrangements being posted.
This is one the one-stop post for all access arrangement queries.
Any other posts will be removed.
I will reply to all queries as an Exams Officer and an Access Arrangements Coordinator, but really, all queries need to go to your SENCO who know you and your school’s set up best.
Feel free to make any comments about questions you have.

Rant/Lore im so burnt out without doing anything
i get up at 6am, leave at 6:30am, get on the bus at 6:50, get off the bus at 7:30, and get to school by 8:30 (i walk 25mins to a friends house). i get home at ~5:15pm on monday-wednesday(bus takes too long and 6th lesson), ~4:15pm on thursdays, and ~6pm on fridays (i have rehearsals until 4:30pm on fridays).
im so tired. theres so much to do at school, and then homework, and then revision on top of that bro. i have my college interview and my audition in november. i need to figure out a song to sing for that, and also have to act during it </3
i dont even know HOW to revise, when i try put it all on flashcards im told im doing it wrong
i didnt get above 49% on my recent mocks, and i just keep falling behind further and further, and nobody seems to care ?? also my handwriting genuinely cant be read by some of my teachers that they dont even bother reading my book atp
WHAT DO I DOOOOOO
Question English...
Which is better Asking cause we all hate English Lit but the year 11s have done it and now say they hate doing English Language. Saying we should enjoy our time in Lit.

Meme/Humour Wanna get famous?
I'm currently doing A-Level Combined English w/ AQA, and in our anthology, we have to study different modes. In GCSE, you're used to all your texts being written; in A-Level, you get spoken texts (random people chatting, documentaries, those 30 second unskippable ads that stop you from being able to watch FreeScienceLessons 1 hour before your mock).
You also get 'blended mode' which is when a text has characteristics of both written and spoken texts. One example is a forum. Now, the forums they use in the anthology are old af and the posts come from like 2013 and there's a forum for boomers to discuss stuff and that's somehow made it onto a national anthology we all have to study.
That anthology has been in use since 2016, so it's not exactly new. If they want to renew the anthology they might have to look at newer texts from newer forums. Instead of 4chan and 'Gransnet', AQA might go on Reddit to find content. Yes, where you are right now.
So don't be afraid to chat on Reddit, cause you never know. One day, maybe you can get your name and your meme on an official A-Level anthology to be studied by millions of students.
Have fun with that!

Rant/Lore I am currently being sacrificed to save our french grades
I had to choose between media+technology (LITERAL HELL) or education+future (WHICH WOULD REQUIRE ME TO WRITE 12 PARAGRAPHS FOR HOMEWORK THIS WEEK BC OUR LAST TEACHER DIDNT GET US TO FILL IN ANY GENERAL CONVERSATION ANSWERS) I guess I'm stuck doing frech homework until the end of time
Side note what the hell are the media and technology questions? "What are your opinions on online shopping" idfk Susan what do you think

Tips/Help Could we all make a collective revision thread for A Christmas Carol?
Inspired by this post from last year because it was surprisingly helpful: https://www.reddit.com/r/GCSE/s/DPn9Gxgyvn
(EDIT: I'm seeing everyone clicking on the linked post but barely anyone is actually contributing to the revision thread. 💔 Please drop ANYTHING you know! Themes, quotes, characters, context, analysis, etc!!)

Question How is everyone revising for November mocks?
There’s so much content idek where to start 😭
Also how many hours per day do people plan to revise over half term? I’m thinking around 5-6 but I know some people that are planning to do 8 😭
Tips/Help advice pls!!
So i'm currently a year 11, and I'd say i get really good grades. I've never really studied, so all of my efforts have mostly been skill and natural talent. However, i do understand that gcses are extremely important and that I should definitely start studying (and i will), but my elder sister keeps telling me to put my life and enjoyment on hold until they are over, such as haircuts and even speaking about hair dye, i understand where shes coming from but is it really necessary that i stop doing everything outside of school and revising?
It's making me feel so trapped, and honestly, I'd rather just not deal with all of this (if you can understand what im saying 😭)
for context my sister hated school, my family isnt from the UK and we moved here in 2014 so we werent that well adjusted and my family life is very abusive
i just dont want to put my life and things that make me feel like life is worth living on hold
has anyone else experienced similar feelings?
(if so please give me some advice)

Tips/Help How should I structure my science notes/revision?
Hello! I am in year 10, and I really want to get as ahead as I possibly can. I’m doing Triple AQA science and I have one notebook for each (bio, chem, phys), but I have no idea how to structure my notes. Or if I need to make any at all?
I’ve watched a lot of revision guide videos on YouTube, and everyone says something different, like “just do past papers,” or “do flashcards and active recall,” which are both great! I know! But I think notes are the foundation of your understanding/learning, and I feel like I don’t know how to do them effectively.
Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Question What's the difference between Level 3 Core Maths and AS Level Maths? + Other A Level questions from a year 11 currently doing college applications
Kind of what the title says to be honest. Which one has more Algebra/ Trig/ Stuff with the alphabet replacing numbers? (And more importantly) Does one of them have less statistics (coming from someone doing GCSE Stats).
Other questions in case anyone would be kind enough to answer them:
- Is A-Level English Lit better for prospects post-16 at universities than A-Level Drama & Theatre studies?
-Which History is more focused on the social aspects of history: Early Modern (witchcraft + England 1509-1603 + Luther + German reformation + coursework) or Modern (Russia 1917-1991 + Maos China + British experience of warfare + coursework)
-If you did an EPQ, what did you do it on?
-Have you had a nice week
Also, to any fellow year 11's who have made it this far, what courses are you doing Post-16? Any V-Level people here?
Bye bye
