Discussion PS5 Emulator on android developed by the Lemon Emulator dev
"Update" New post a preview/gameplay using the CapyPS5 the android ps5 emulator made by the Lemon Emu dev: https://www.reddit.com/r/EmulationOnAndroid/s/Jhr4QtEkRk
Hi all i know im posting a lot lately but the lemon Switch project dev Gael his name is able to run PS5 homebrew games 60fps or might be port on Android...I check their discord community and now they are asking for a name even a logo for it. What a time to be alive more emulators for android long live the android emulation!!! I've been spying to this community but can't deny they are doing something.
Since a lot of you is sending me dm about where is discord link of lemon project here you go tired of addressing each message:

Bro how did we go from full PS5 homebrew games on PC to mobile in less than 3 days what is even going on in the emulation and modding community. We are progressing like actual aliens who are millions of years ahead of civilization right now

I hate AI too like the AI arts, videos and all but maybe if it's the proper use of AI then Im in.

Nope reverse engineering was the last castle, judt wait until verification and protection systems go down

We actually have to stop this narrative. Don't say "I dislike something, until it benefits me" this is the worst way to look at it.
If someone uses AI, and makes something legitimately good, then it's good.
If someone uses AI, and makes something awful, then it's awful.
If someone handcodes something and it's good, then it's good.
If someone handcodes something and it's awful, then it's awful.Yes AI can have problems, yes it's annoying when people throw up slop coding on a project they will never touch again, and release it.
This doesn't mean ALL AI BAD, cause you recognize idiots that share garbage with it.
In talented hands it can be insane, in awful hands it can be garbage. People need to stop throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

I dont like ai generated video or photo. Feels like it consume much more resources than text and doesn't seem that much useful relatively to people
-10
u/Reddit_user807 15h ago
Ai is still awful for anything artistic. My opinion will never change on that.
1
u/De_Oscillator 14h ago
Sure that's fine. I think a lot of humans are garbage at art too. Like extremely terrible.
It's readily available on platforms like soundcloud, or check out art pieces/paintings on deviantart.
There are heaps of literal human slop. Like if you showed it to 100 people, 99 people would say it's bad.
If I show you something, a product, an art piece, a song and you love it, then I say "it's made by ai" at the end, and now you go "I hate this" then it's just a biased position.
2
u/Mario0412 12h ago
I agree with this take for the most part with some exceptions when it comes to art. For example, I'm a big fan of jazz, and one of jazz's core staples is improvisation. The capturing of the "lightning in a bottle" that is an improvised solo - the techniques, emotions, ideas, and experiments the artist captures at that moment in a recording or live performance is something that I truly don't believe I could enjoy if it came from an AI, at least not until we reach a point where AI's are pretty much undisputedly conscious entities. As a musician, I can't really admire or connect or imagine the "mind" of an AI musician as I experience the song as I can with a human one.

Why is proper use of AI code is ok but not arts?
50
u/D3farius 22h ago
So much of programming is just regurgitating your/other people's code in various different ways
4
u/Dodgecanceling 8s gen 4 19h ago
Also, who is out there reverse engineering anything? Decomps were ultra rare passion projects for few lucky/extremely famous games on very few devices before AI stepped in.
It's such a daunting task for a human, that I am beyond happy there is a tool that can help with it now. Though I say, having tried a few AI decomps, they are definitely much worse than man made decomps, but I hope it can get better at it with time or it helps the right kind if passionate person that would make sure the decomp/port is good
-9
u/OtherUse1685 21h ago
"So much of art is just regurgitating your/other people's styles and techniques in various different ways”
Works both ways, doesn't it? I do think AI art and programming are different, but if that's your argument against AI art, then you should have the same problem with programming. Otherwise, it just sounds hypocritical to pick and choose.
3
u/l52 20h ago
I think the distinction here is we are getting back ownership of the video games we own in a world where companies are forcing us to repurchase the same game over and over just to play it again on modern hardware. And even then, repurchasing nowadays isn’t even ownership, it’s just a temporary license to play a game. For this, people are ok with ignoring that the models are trained on tons of code both public and private repos.
1
u/OtherUse1685 18h ago
It's just one of a proper use of AI code, you can also have proper use of AI arts as well. You're using a specific example, I was just asking generally, why is AI code OK but not AI art?
If I use AI in both code and arts for my solo indie game, why is it a problem? It is still a proper use, I don't see the distinction.
Related to "getting back ownership of the video games we own", if I use AI in an old game to upscale or retexture to get a great 4K texture pack, why is it not a proper use?
1
u/l52 17h ago
I'm not asserting whether getting back ownership via AI is ok or not, I'm asserting that people are willing to put aside any feelings/concerns of AI in order to achieve that goal.
Personally, I think the pushback on indie devs as well as re(de)compilation projects and AI usage is an overreaction. There will inevitably be slop code and junk, but that's just replacing already existing spaghetti code and low effort designs. I suppose the main distinction is that there will be more of it since anybody with an AI license can contribute to the slop heap now.
In short - I don't think you are wrong with the examples you gave, we are going to see extremes of really cool and really crappy usages of AI. Either I'll be playing GTA6 on my GBA or the game won't boot up at all and instead steal all of my data then brick my GBA.
1
u/OtherUse1685 17h ago
I get that. Still not my question though. I just feel confused that people are okay with AI in coding but not in arts. I've heard zero good argument for it. Either hate it completely (I do sympathize) or accept it as a tool (which it is).

u/farmerbb 16h ago edited 16h ago
I've been a professional software dev for over 10 years. I 100% believe in code as art and software engineering as craftsmanship.
Writing code (by hand), architecting software and seeing the results of it on screen engages my creative faculties just as much as, say, an illustrator or writer when they engage in their craft. And it deeply saddens me to see so many in my field just surrender this process over to AI agents on a whim. Why is it suddenly okay to throw best practices like DRY or YAGNI out the window in the name of AI? Do we just not care about code quality anymore? Better written software equals a better experience for users, bar none.
If a copywriter exclusively used AI to churn out written copy, or an illustrator exclusively used AI to churn out artwork, that kind of stuff would typically be frowned upon. Why should software engineering be any different? It absolutely boggles my mind.
2
u/OtherUse1685 9h ago
Well I've been a professional software dev for around 8 years as well, I do agree with your sentiments. It's just a tool to speed up development and there's value in craftmanship. Just like traditional arts still have its place in the digital world today.
Some people love/hate AI and I do get the reason why behind it. Either hate both, or none.
What boggles my mind is that, some people hate AI arts but not AI code. Like, what's the difference? People here just keep on downvoting me without properly articulate WHY. And I doubt they can answer it.
0
u/De_Oscillator 16h ago
Same with art. If I say "Draw me a princess" that idea in most people's heads has been tainted by Disney in some way shape or form.
All ideas are passed down via to them via your senses, and your brain interpreting those senses.
Language, images, connotations of words and ideas, all concepts. This is why musical genre's exist, people take bits and pieces from each other and concepts and create a genre of music, and transform it slightly to make it "their own".
-9
u/Electric-Backslap 22h ago
exact definition of 99% of the "manual" art
9
u/DappercatEsq 22h ago
Yeah I guess that could be the conclusion if you were deeply misanthropic or didn't value art at all.
2
u/Auftragzkiller 20h ago
No he's right actually. There's no original thoughts. What a wise Artist once said:
Everyone thinks of the same things, just in a different way!
You make your own style out of all the inspiration you got from other Art :)
AI is bad even in coding. It does make code that works, but sloppy. What happened at OpenAI and the Hugging Face attack is a wake up call.
2
u/logicom 16h ago
Art is an expression of human thought and creativity. AI spits out remixes of art stolen from artists from across the internet. There's no thought behind it, no message, no deeper meaning, just colors arranged in a rectangle remixed from other colors arranged in a rectangle from whatever material it was trained on.
1
u/OtherUse1685 9h ago
You can almost argue the same for coding.
Coding is an expression of human thought and creativity. AI spits out remixes of art stolen from repos from across the internet.
There's no thought behind it, no message, no deeper meaning, just colors arranged in a rectangle remixed from other colors arranged in a rectangle
Many "arts" are like this as well. If I just want to create a throwaway banner for my site, even a human "art" is like that.
I do agree it's different, but I don't see how we can hate AI in art but not AI in code lol. It's just a tool.
1
u/logicom 7h ago
The main difference is that coding is a means to an end to create software, whereas art is the thing itself. The code is just the tool to create the software. Using AI to augment a programmer's work is like using digital tools like photoshop filters to augment an artist's work.
AI has no meaning and intention. If I'm watching a movie and there's a particular tight shot on a character's face that only has half of their face lit up with blue light I might wonder what the director's intention was. Why did they decide to light the scene that way? Why blue? We can speculate as to what the director wanted to convey with their choices because we know that it was created by a human with intention. Even if the intention was just that it looked cool. AI just mashes images together by algorithm. It's a pale imitation of what humans do. I don't really care if you use it to make a generic banner for a party, but we both know that's not what they want people to use it for.
1
u/OtherUse1685 6h ago edited 6h ago
AI can also be the means to create arts as well, not "the thing" itself.
Using your example, I can have AI to generate cartoon animation where "there's a particular tight shot on a character's face that only has half of their face lit up with blue light". I will adjust it using AI until it fits my idea, I'm using it as a tool.
A general prompt like "generate a short sad film of character X" might have the exact scene you're talking about, and I think it's an improper use of AI. That general prompt is equivalent to a vibe coder prompting "port this game to my phone".
I'm acting like a director, and the AI is the production team. What's wrong with this then? Isn't it just a tool to achieve my creative intention?
Another example: I use AI to add a CGI scene to my movie, I direct how it should change. Why is it bad? It's a very common thing in entertainment industry now btw.
-7
u/ChildoftheApocolypse 22h ago
The fact that you even had to ask that is exactly why everyone hates it..
3
u/OtherUse1685 22h ago
Huh? So why? People downvote without articulating why?
5
u/DappercatEsq 22h ago
People have kind of a visceral revulsion to having to explain the relative significance of a completely human expression to, presumably, a human being.
-2
u/OtherUse1685 22h ago edited 21h ago
My dude this is reddit, not your philosophy club. Using all those jargons without being able to convey your idea is r/im12andthisisdeep territory.
You know who's also guilty of jargons that people hate? It's Claude opus 5. How ironic.
1
u/DappercatEsq 21h ago
You guys always ask and then get all worked up. Take it easy man.
4
u/OtherUse1685 21h ago
And you guys always do everything in your power to avoid answering the question. Throwing jargons is not exactly taking it easy either lol.

u/pm_me_feet_pics_plz3 23h ago
AI models have improved exponentially, they can reverse engineer almost any software no matter the complexity.
I mean latest ai models are solving million dollar math problems and unsolved hundred year old conjectures to the point even professional mathematicians are feared for their jobs...in the midst of all of this a ps5 emulator in android not that surprising.
10
u/hamsalmontaste 23h ago
that is big bro as long as this AI can deliver the ps5 emulator on android I'm in..but for the AI slop arts and videos I hate those shi*
2
u/Connect_Quit_1293 7h ago
I just wanna highlight that we said the same thing about AI code when gpt3.5/4 sucked.
I wonder how we'll feel about AI animations in a few years.

Its basically AI getting assess of corporation, after they treated their employees like shit trying to replace them with AI
4
u/RobinRelique 20h ago
There was a guy over at /r/claudeai who just gave a one liner as a prompt and asked claude to "just do it" (i.e. port 3 games to pc, with the basic QoL features ) and it pulled it off, granted it was all SNES games but the initial prompt was ridiculous, like smaller than this comment I've written! (Note: it did take more than one prompt though for added creature comforts)
2
u/FlatDoughnug 8h ago
Holyyy bru. I wonder if I can try this on my phone and port PC games to web browser or android. That would lowk be legendary🙏😭
1
u/Membedha Poco F5 2h ago
Yeah ?! How is it possible !? I don't know ?! Maybe everybody is a senior dev nowadays? How is that possible ?
62
u/DocSpin0 23h ago
A lot of comments downplaying this first step. Do we not remember that basically every emulator starts shitty? Go back to Eden v1 and see how far we've come
17
3
u/Warm-Cartographer 18h ago
I understand your point but eden wasn't shit when it came out, it's branch of Citron and both of them came from Yuzu, mature project.
1
u/DocSpin0 18h ago
Before nce came out basically no 3d game ran well
2
u/Warm-Cartographer 4h ago
Nce came out during skyline era, when Eden was released we had NCE for years.

If you guys thought getting enough storage for gta v was hard then wait for ps5.
My personal favorites are

Black ops cold war 806gb

u/DocSpin0 23h ago
Ik you're joking but if anyone in this community is doing heavy gaming without a cooler they're missing out

u/xFrootLoops 22h ago
Brother... I hate to break it to you but if phones can already play PC games via emulation, then there's no reason PS5 would be a struggle. These phones coming out now are damn powerful and it's really nothing out of reach anymore. Like it or not but AI is really what is making all this happen and as fast as it is. So it's not so much a matter of can mobile handle PS5 but more like can developers make their emulators more efficient and compatible.

u/Dimstatyon One Plus 13 + GameSir X5 Lite 22h ago
Not so much anymore but in 2024 there was a huge leap in power with the snapdragon 8 elite compared to its predecessor
5
u/deeznutz75 21h ago
Even earlier around 2020-2021 mobile chips really started popping off. Microsoft and apple both put out laptops running on mobile chips, tablets coming out with "multitasking/multiwindow" features. ARM is kind of the hot new thing and now its becoming even more mainstream with steam and tiktok
3
u/hamsalmontaste 22h ago
Very fast indeed best we take care of it making sure it will work till next year
2
u/TonimSan 7h ago
Well, yes and no.
PCs let you manipulate the image quality and resolution, and that's what makes a game from 2026 kinda run in a high end phone.
Most of PS5 games, on the other hand, only have 2 preset (Quality and Performance), with fixed resolution and quality. You won't be able to run them in 720p low settings, at least not in a near future.
1
u/tabris51 19h ago
Would it mean a stable performance because ps5 games are specifically optimised for ps5?
5
5
u/Loyalburrito_ Xperia 1 ii (SD 865), Xiaomi 14 (SD 8G3) 23h ago
i vibecoded a similar ps5 port and got silksong running at 60fps
5
u/AntiGrieferGames 23h ago
Silksong is not very demanding. It already works on kytyps5 on Pc at 60fps on a pc handheld i use. It may the lightest commercial title on this regard
5
u/xfalconsx2 23h ago
Talking pure performance, the 8 elite gen 5 is faster cpu-wise, gpu-wise the ps5 clears and it's not even close, but we will have to see how optimized it is on mobile as there's emulation overhead, and you will probably need a cooler for this :D
3
u/Grokitach AYN Thor Pro | Redmagic Astra 22h ago
There's a bloodborne port. It works, but the framerate is not that good without framegen and upscaler. And when everything is activated the game is not very nice... But it runs at 60 fps.
3
u/Warm-Cartographer 18h ago
Phone processor are more powerfull and use consume more power than many laptop processor, something like 8 elite gen 5 is more powerfull than most desktop processor from intel gen 11 and below.
1
5
u/Vaxtez D7300/8GB RAM/Mali G615 23h ago
It won't be able to do any heavy PS5 games; all phones are too weak for it. Maybe some lighter 2D ones will work though.
5
u/hamsalmontaste 23h ago
thata true, but lets see if they are up to it running other than homebrew. maybe they are cooking something
3
u/Worried_Book_3846 19h ago
No chance for years minimum. A 3070ti gets 9fps in wolverine and people really think current phones are even going to boot these games 😂
0
u/hamsalmontaste 19h ago
yes might be true but we don't know what the future holds man..Its the same with the Switch back then like Yuzu and like Armsx3, Armsx2/PCSX2, Armsx4 said its "impossible" but look where we are now. The possibilities.
3
u/Worried_Book_3846 19h ago
this is nothing like the switch as that was old on day of release. The ps5 has stupid levels of bandwidth for the gpu that phones have no chance of matching yet 😂. Cool and all that though
-1
u/hamsalmontaste 19h ago
But we have to wait and see right, we need to trust that in the future or upcoming months it would be possible..ps5 Emulator rendering process can be improved also using this AI and it keeps evolving and its not stopping...

u/PSBoxX 23h ago
L'émulation PS4 fonctionne plutôt bien sur téléphone alors qu'elle est très récente et pas beaucoup optimisé encore, je pense que dans quelques années, des jeux PS5 3D pourront tournée "correctement" sur 8 elite et mieux.
2
u/OkControl3164 23h ago
You are comparing one made in 2010s and one made in 2020s...
4
u/PSBoxX 23h ago
Les téléphones modernes peuvent faire tourner certains jeux PC de 2026 correctement donc je pense que l'émulation PS5 est possible sur téléphone, je ne dis pas que ca va être parfait mais certains jeux pourraient tourner correctement.
4
u/OkControl3164 23h ago
Yes but those two consoles are in two different era
It would be madness if it turned out successful 👀
2
u/Vaxtez D7300/8GB RAM/Mali G615 22h ago
Doubt it. You have to consider that GPU wise, the PS5 is around RX 6700 10GB, meanwhile the 8 Elite is somewhere around RX 570 performance iirc.
The PS4 meanwhile was around GTX 750 Ti performance, so obviously, it's not that much of an issue for the 8 Elite to handle the PS4. The PS5 meanwhile will take a while longer.
6
u/MMORPGnews 23h ago
It's not only AI. You also must understand code. Recently, one of my web apps was "hacked" and hacker got my notes (links to fav pages and r18+ pages)
Hacker send me email about how he did it and how to fix it.
But there was a problem, I never hidden them from anyone, he could enter web page, press on button to get them in a few formats including epub. "Password" existed only to hide data from auto web scrappers and hosting scanners. It was auto decoded on front end when downloaded.

u/Aggressive-Start-629 23h ago
We can't even handle ps3 properly yet✌️
10
u/occultshelf 23h ago
We can absolutely handle a lot PS3, i dont think its a stretch at all to say by this time next year the elite chip phones will be able to handle pretty much all of it. AI is speeding the emulation scene up in ways we didnt think was possible.
1
u/Umlunguboy420 23h ago
It is going to be very interesting to see how the gaming industry will react to this, will it collapse?
I mean the PS5 is already jailbroken, they just recently jailbroke the xbox360s hypervision lol shits crazy
5
u/occultshelf 23h ago
There are much wider implications tbh! Security systems for all sorts of things are no longer safe, we are probably gonna see some terrible hacking situation in not too long.
1
u/Fabulous_Comb1830 21h ago
I don't think security as a whole isn't completely out the window. It's just the idea of considering "since no one outside saw it being created therefore no one knows how it's made" being used as a form of security in itself that's being tossed out.
1
u/ImpressionDepression 15h ago
It is going to be very interesting to see how the gaming industry will react to this, will it collapse?
nah people will still buy games/consoles. Plus when the legal option is easier than pirating then it's the path of least resistance. I still buy games on steam for PC even though you can get pirated copies pretty easily.
4
u/hamsalmontaste 23h ago
I know...thats why I was shocked to see that his now going with the ps5 emulator on android on the group and run it on 60 fps..its insane man..
0
u/LilSatxDreamer 23h ago
idk whos we but every game runs smooth just the emulator has errors you’re device must be shit tbh

u/Quokka_Socks 23h ago
Unless this later down the line can tap into forcing games to run in eco mode I not sure how viable this will be.
As for what Eco mode is. It's like lower graphics settings that reduce the power consumption on PS5, rumoured to be a profile for an alleged handheld.
2
u/AbberageRedditor69 22h ago
An ARM based port of AnyPS5 is probably a better future bet than a KytyPS5 ARM port when it comes to android PS5 gaming.
2
u/hamsalmontaste 19h ago
But still the more the Merrier right? we'll have lots of choices that it's not gonna be a problem. Then we Android users all win in the end

u/amitkattal 20h ago
people do love to waste their claude tokens dont they
2
u/hamsalmontaste 20h ago
As long as they waste in on the right things like PS5 android emulators I mean why not its like a win for our community too. very excited.
6
u/amitkattal 20h ago
lol. thats what is wrong with people. just port things no one ask for instead of fixing and optimizing things. But i know porting is easy for AI. optimize is hard because it needs real human skill
1
u/hamsalmontaste 20h ago
I know but if they mentioned that they are able to optimize this ps5 android emulator to run homebrew games at 60fps that means this gael guy knows what he was doing and is not bluffing at all. Guess we'll have to wait and see but this is still a big win for us android fans.

En vrai je pense que cela sera possible mais dans très longtemps, le temps que l'émulateur et le jeu soit optimisé.2

Yes I'm just joking, but PC is very possible shortly after release if people managed to dump game files from a PS5.

If corporate can't control their software, watchout. They will find ways to limit our hardware eventually.
2

I love all the emulation progress and I don't want to sound like a doomer but I fear the recent Sony fiasco will prompt the gaming industry to entirely move to a cloud-based model. Maybe not next gen but the following ones? Who knows.

I see some division here about vibecoding.. Well, I started a sub for people who create and people who embrace vibecoded handheld projects, r/HandheldVC , so that anyone who wants updates on the many, many projects that are emerging from AI assisted coding can have a space to discuss it comfortably, without worrying about argument over vibecoding.. It's still early, but I am constantly adding new posts to keep up with, if anyone is interested..
