Ask El Paso El Paso Matters has a chance to turn $15K into $80K for local news

Hey, El Paso!

We have a unique opportunity this El Paso Giving Day, and we wanted to share it with our community.

If we raise $15,000 by Wednesday, Oct. 14, matching funds and additional gifts can turn that support into $80,000 for El Paso Matters.

Here's how it works:

  • The first $15,000 in community donations will be matched dollar for dollar, bringing the total to $30,000.
  • Reaching that goal unlocks an additional $25,000 gift from a generous El Paso family and a $25,000 match from Meta Platforms Inc.

That's $80,000 to help keep our community informed, starting with $15,000 from El Pasoans.

At El Paso Matters, we believe journalism is a form of public service. From our schools and local government to immigration, development and the people and places that make El Paso home, our reporting is rooted in the community we serve.

Every gift, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal and helps keep independent, nonpartisan local news accessible to everyone in El Paso.

We're so close to reaching our $15,000 early giving goal!

If you'd like to help, you can give here: https://elpasogivingday.org/organizations/el-paso-matters-inc

Thanks for supporting local journalism in El Paso!

Ask El Paso For Those with an MBA: Was It Worth It?

For those in El Paso who have an MBA, or decided against one, has it helped you earn more, move into upper/ executive management, or change careers?

Did the payoff justify the tuition and time? If you could go back, would you do it again? If you’re comfortable, share your field.

Ask El Paso First time in El Paso (and Las Cruces)! Any suggestions welcomed!

Hey everyone! In town for the game at the Sun Bowl this Saturday as a San Jose State fan. I’ve never been in El Paso before, closest I’ve been is Phoenix so I really don’t know the area well.

Best Mexican food? (Both dinner and breakfast, I love chilaquiles)

Best bar/restaurant to watch college football on Saturdays?

Anything I should see while I’m in town? Any UTEP traditions I should be aware of?

Really excited to see the Sun Bowl as its one of the gems of college football

Bonus points if anyone has Las Cruces recs as well! Thank you!

Politics Any groups discuss local politics here?

Been looking to get more involved with local politics and movements and such, but just following the posts made by ElPasoMatters doesn't really do it for me. No shade on them but, y'know, I'd like to discuss!

Any groups or meetups I should look towards attending?

Discussion Why is Voter Turnout so low in EP ??

I recently moved to El Paso from Denver, Colorado, and one thing I’ve noticed is what seems to be a lack of voter participation and political awareness. I’m curious why that is. Is it a lack of access to information, limited community engagement, or simply a lack of interest in local politics?

I’d genuinely like to hear perspectives from people who have lived here longer. What do you think contributes to this, and what could encourage more people to become informed and involved in local elections?

Moving to El Paso Calling all homeschool moms raising autistic preteens! ❤️

Hi moms! I’m looking to connect with other moms who are homeschooling their preteen children with autism, especially those around ages 10–13.
I recently started homeschooling my 11-year-old son, who has autism and ADHD, and honestly, I have so many questions! I want to make sure he’s learning, socializing, making friends, and getting opportunities to explore his interests outside of our home.
I would love to hear about your experiences!
A few things I’m curious about:
📚 Homeschooling: What curriculum do you use? How do you structure your days, especially when your child struggles with focus, reading, or other subjects?
👫 Socialization: Are your kids involved in homeschool groups, co-ops, clubs, or other activities where they can meet kids their age?
⚽ Sports and activities: Do your kids participate in sports, martial arts, swimming, art classes, gaming clubs, or anything else? Where have you found welcoming environments for them?
💙 Mom friendships: Are there autism mom groups or homeschool mom groups where you can connect with other moms who understand?
🧩 Support and resources: Have you found any programs, classes, or community activities that work especially well for autistic preteens?
❤️** The honest side of homeschooling**: What has been the hardest part, and what do you wish you had known when you first started?
I’m not expecting every child to be the same. I just want to learn from moms who have been through this or are figuring it out alongside me.
If you’re comfortable sharing, I would love to know what city or area you’re in, too, so I can look into local resources.
I’m hoping to build connections, learn from other families, and find ways to help my son grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Thank you to anyone willing to share their experiences! ❤️

Politics Precinct 2 county commissioner candidates suggest budget solutions beyond their control

Voters in Central El Paso and part of the Lower Valley will choose between two candidates to represent them in Precinct 2 of the El Paso County Commissioners Court: Republican Matt Sistrunk, a cryptocurrency miner, and Democrat Miguel Teran, a construction project manager.

Teran defeated longtime Commissioner David Stout in the spring Democratic primary, while Sistrunk was unopposed in the Republican race.

In interviews with El Paso Matters, both candidates floundered at times to name services that fall under the county’s jurisdiction, veering into policies and projects that are outside of the commissioners’ control.

Ask El Paso Looking for someone who does Nintendo DS repairs

Wondering if there are shops, or even someone working out of their home, that know how to work with DS consoles. I’m a bit weary to box it up and ship it out of state to get repaired, but will do it if I have to. Just thought I’d find someone locally first.

The screen suddenly became unresponsive after working perfectly fine yesterday night. Everything (except the dang R button!) works perfectly fine. It powers on fine, everything works/runs, the screen is just no longer responsive to any touch. It’s definitely a hardware issue. I can get the parts I possibly need, I just don’t have the tools nor the expertise to do the repair on my own! Seems to be a problem with the digitizer.

A little heartbroken, but amazed by the fact this is the first issue after 16 years of having it!

Ask El Paso Looking for a Personal trainer/PT for elderly patient

We recently moved my mom into an assisted living place on the west side of town.

She was getting regular Physical therapy (light stretching and guided exercises) through Medicare. She has reached the end of what they will cover.

I'd like to get her set up with a personal trainer that could come visit her a couple of times a week.

Any advice on where to look for trainers or a PT that takes cash so I can figure if this is something we can afford
