Question Is there a reason as to why Disney Plus doesn’t show blu ray versions of movies such as x men days of future past the rogue cut?

It really makes no sense. They have the tab versions for IMAX enhanced films, they could easily put director cuts and extended versions under there. Especially when many films on D+ have much better extended versions that many people would rather watch such as: Kingdom of Heaven, Die Hard 4 & X-Men Days of Future Past

They have extended versions of some movies on there already. Muppet Christmas Carol is one example.

Buuut the extended version of Muppet Christmas Carol isn't sold as a separate physical package. The song When Love is Gone is only a deleted scene features extra.

It’s the entire movie with the segment stitched back in.

It’s not just the deleted scene.

There is a dvd copy with the full version in full screen. I was very happy when they added it to Disney plus.

It should be sold in a physical package! Every Christmas I hope!

My life partner and I love A Muppet Christmas Carol

Why would they give it to as part of a subscription when they can sell it to you?

14

u/Superman730 Dec 28 '25

Because they want to keep me as a subscriber.

Obviously they've done the analysis and have found if people want to watch the extended version then they are willing to pay extra. You may want it, but the subscriber base that even knows of their existence is small enough to probably not waste the server space and pay the royalty costs.

Oh, they already lost me a while ago.

I’ve wondered this myself. Like the Once Upon A Deadpool cut….

13

u/Inside-Run785 Dec 27 '25

They might not be about to do Once Upon a Deadpool because Ryan Reynolds made them donate a part of ticket sales to “Fuck Cancer.”

I don’t know for certain. My best guesses are:

  1. They don’t have the rights to this cut

  2. They (meaning the team in charge of adding extra content to their service) don’t care enough to add it to the platform.

I hate this. There is a director’s cut of “Daredevil” (the Affleck one) that makes that movie watchable.. but no just put the awful theatrical version on there. As the director’s cut of “Aliens” should be the default version we not in a cinema watching these.. we are at home, we can handle the long runtime

The aliens one pisses me right off I think all directors cuts of the the first 3 films are brilliant and should be included along side the originals

The most egregious is Prime having all 6 Middle Erth movies on Prime...

And none of their extended.

Like the literal fuck.

Or when tv channels still play the theatrical cut of BvS or Josstice League.

Like, the fuck, those should be burned in a fire. forever.

Same with the Lord of the Rings on Netflix here in Greece.

No appetite to watch the theatrical versions.

Extended ones are the REAL thing.

1

u/Carnificus Dec 31 '25

Amazon Japan just recently added all the extended cuts, not sure if that happened internationally or not

1

u/ERSTF Dec 29 '25

Alien and Aliens theatrical are the best versions. Director's add a bunch of unnecessary stuff, specially Aliens. I love it that we have no idea what happened to the colony. Adding the footage removes the mystery

Stuff like this is why physical media still matters today.

Still have my Rogue Cut BluRay sitting on my shelf as it has since like 2017.

Money, I guess.

It might have to do with the seamless branching on the home video releases, but I’m assuming they must have long play files of the extended versions. It’s a mystery!

What is the Rogue cut ?? Never heard of it

5

u/BurantX40 Dec 28 '25

Added movie scenes (past and future), most notably rescuing Rogue (involves more Iceman) and alternative and added scenes in the past (mainly Beast and Mystique)

In the original cut, you can see Rogue at the end when the Sentinels are about to kill everyone, the director left it in to see if anyone would notice.

The better version of this movie, tbh. It’s not much different, though, about 17 minutes of a Rogue rescue mission to get her to replace Kitty when Kitty’s powers are on the fritz. There are other scenes such as a memorial for the fallen mutants, too.

1

u/PrysmX Dec 28 '25

Fancy name for the physical release that includes both the theatrical and extended cut of the movie.

3

u/Dontyoublair Dec 28 '25

I noticed this the other day looking for the special cut of avatar with the earth scenes. My feelings were hurt lol

Lord of the Rings too

2

u/Cutthechitchata-hole Dec 29 '25

I thought the rogue cut was better.

1

u/thefinancejedi Dec 28 '25

The Rogue Cut was such a unique cut. Her character was perfectly able to be cut/added to make two completely different films.

1

u/userlivewire Dec 28 '25

My guess is that they don’t care.

1

u/eagc7 GT Dec 28 '25

They likely don't see it as a priority

1

u/Big_boss816 Dec 29 '25

I sometimes wonder why they don’t have them. It drives me crazy that The Richard Donner cut of Superman 2 isn’t on HBO Max or shown on tv.

1

u/LivNRox Dec 29 '25

It's particularly lame since whenever these films are on HBO Max or other streaming services like that they always have the cuts as well. like the Rogue cut has been on prime video and HBO Max

1

u/BadNoodleEggDemon Dec 29 '25

Since it’s marvel-related it could be a creative choice (MCU films all just have one definitive “canon” cut), but more likely they do not have the rights and the rights are too cumbersome to acquire cleanly.

1

u/General_Kick688 Dec 29 '25

There are very likely some rights issues involved in alternate cuts produced before buyouts.

1

u/Manthos3gr Dec 30 '25

I still want the Alien director cuts

1

u/Manthos3gr Dec 30 '25

Also No Way Home extended edition would also be cool

1

u/thegoddamnsiege Dec 30 '25

Netflix has that (in Canada anyway).

1

u/the_executive_branch Dec 30 '25

Laziness probably

1

u/Jonny1593 Dec 31 '25

This is the reason why physical is king

1

u/blackfeltfedora Dec 31 '25

“Logan” is much more enjoyable in B&W

-3

u/ultradip Dec 28 '25

Server space, most likely. That and bandwidth.

0

u/Royal-Chef-946 Dec 27 '25

Remindme! 2 days

0

u/Mooseguncle1 Dec 28 '25

Because the aren’t physical media and never will be.

0

u/CamF90 CA Dec 28 '25

Laziness, doesn't have any of the superior alt cuts of the Alien films either for example.

0

u/Barney_10-1917 Dec 28 '25

The theatrical release is the default version. Rogue Cut was a special edition that I don't believe has been re-released since the first one
