I'm so confused. Should I use API or Opencode? I've always been direct API guy and never consider opencode.
So I take this is very good news for open code and I should start using it?
Can someone give me pointers. I want to save money as much as possible. Thank you

if you're not a hard coding guy, not using it very often then stay in deepseek official api and use your balance any time you want but if you code so much everyday at least 4-5 hours then opencode go would be awesome for you

I spent around $25 a month working on several projects and using it as AI assistant. I also have the $20 codex subs.
For now this is more than enough for my use case. Should I switch the $25 API with opencode?

then you should go with claude. even their $20 plan now has absurdly amazing usage limits right now, enjoy opus 5.5

Anyone who downvoted this comment hasn't tried. It's true, the usage limit is literally insane with Opus 5.5 and even more with Sonnet 5.5 which is already better than DeepSeek.

I agree, especially after seeing Sonnet 5.5, my mind completely flipped. it has soooo good usage limits for a claude model

Yeah but the rail guards of Claude are tough......wait does Claude Api have bo guard rails?

u/Haningauror 20h ago
From what I heard the usage is nowhere near $25 API from DeepSeek? No? Things has changed huh

I heard claude sub is giving good value recently for 20$, so you might consider that. I personally don't want to spend more than 10$ and I don't trust the sub's variable limits so I don't use them.

Unfortunately due to the conversion rate from where I'm from, it's 4 times more, so I'll be paying 80 local currency bucks.
Conversion rate is a B.

I respectfully disagree. I jumped from opencode to Claude and at first it was really bad lol. But it was my fault for using opus medium. Sonnet medium or high is more then sufficient for me.
And it gets more things right the first time which saves me a lot of time.
I don't dislike deepseek but I can't go back to a model that doesn't get things right the first time if that makes sense?
Like I don't have a lot of time for my own projects so when I'm working on them I need a model that gets it the first time.
GPT is good to but slow as Molasses lol.

Can you use Claude $20 sub agentically? Like does it come with CLI/API for plug-in to say Hermes harness
1
u/Over_Firefighter5497 18h ago
Not officially. But there us a workaround that hermes themselves provides. Its still experimental. But it does work. Though opus can dry out quick for agentic work in the 20 dollar plan. Haiku and sonnet are much more kind.

You need some sort of cheap worker if you're using Claude, I've got 5% left on the week, I literally have opus write plans and critic what DS made, I run parallel DS agents to code for me it works well
1
u/Lazy_Reach_2565 15h ago
Haiku 5.5 is not qualify as a cheap worker tho?

u/Inner-Pangolin-1110 14h ago
Prefer DS V4.1, depends on your style of code, domain and complexity, try both and see how it works for you

u/Deezwend 20h ago
I guess I can say things changed lately. my friend uses $20 plan of claude and couldn't even use his 50% of weekly limits in 6 days in spite of using opus 5.5 so intense

I would say yes. Its 80 dollars of usage for just 10 dollars. And often times its also zdr. As far as i know. Deepseek api is not zdr.

u/xRebellion_ 20h ago
How much are you planning to use it? If you're sure you will use a lot, then honestly go is good value.
Ofc it has several caveats: it can be slow when server is overloaded, and some has even said that quality is different compared to api (I can't attest to this since I haven't tried api yet).

I use both. Primary is OpenCode and secondary is Direct API in case OpenCode is down.

u/Haningauror 20h ago
Good Idea, I might try it after this. Is it possible to use OpenCode subs as an API? For example to connect it to harness/hermes

I'm gonna be real with you guys OpenCode is major hype it's very slow, I get 200-300 tok/s outside of it, if iteration speed is important to you start to ignore anything/everything by OpenCode
I literally hated DS using it in OC because it was so slow, it didn't even make sense
3
u/considerfi 14h ago
I use opencode with deepseek api. I agree when I use opencodes inference it feels slow. But the harness is great imo.
2
u/senpaisearchuff 12h ago
i using commandcode and opencode go, i can say commandcode ist a lot of times double the speed. But if opencode go give now 80 for 10 USD dollar. that is a crazy good deal.

u/Inner-Pangolin-1110 9h ago
Try deepseek API or openrouter once or twice, just once or twice to see the handicap low tok/s causes now imagine you run multiple parralel agents for your workflows

Next time add a description or ask the AI to generate it if you can't do it yourself.

u/Deezwend 20h ago
lol what kind of description would you need for this news everything is clear in the photo

u/Civil_Response3127 20h ago
What's clear? Is this an API thing or a subscription thing? What tier if sub?
6
u/SlightMarsupial8379 20h ago
lol I want any description that explains the meaning of your post in any way.

Is it quantized?

This is the biggest unanswered question on the internet about OpenCode Go subscriptions

u/ContributionMotor150 19h ago
Good luck I guess. Quantized stuff would be cheaper end but you'll start hating your life and DeepSeek when it starts to hallucinate, not follow instructions or can't understand codebase properly.
1
u/Right_Ad_3525 19h ago
that output went way off the rails, kinda funny how these models flip to chaotic in roleplay so fast
1
u/Global_Persimmon_469 18h ago
How fast is DeepSeek 4.1 Flash in opencode go?
Is it the same speed as DeepSeek provider? 200-300t/s

Anybody knows what providers and configs the model is served at? Please. No point if its quantized/unstable/bad cache rates.

Whenever is see these too good to be true deals, it's because it's quantised
2
u/Lazy_Reach_2565 14h ago edited 13h ago
Not only that, it's more like a marketing trick. Deepseek official API more like $50 on OpenCode Go but with no limitation and quantization.
They think they got 80$ and then surprising "how you can do that task just for $1 if it consume $15 on OpenCode?".
Their 80$ = 15$, I believe. Maybe ~$5 discount for $10 plan. But is the quality and tps is the same as the official API? Still can be okay but not a miracle, you can just pay for an API with the same success
