Pricing How much would you charge for this, as someone who doesn’t usually charge and just crochets for fun?

Post image
4.1k Upvotes

I’m by no means an expert, I just crochet for fun but I made this for my daughter’s preschool class and a teacher wants to pay me for one for a family member. I wouldn’t normally charge since I like making things for people but she insists. Should I just say anything would work, or maybe just materials?

EDIT: just editing to add that I’m surprised how much this blew up. Thank you for all the advice and kind words! I have several other projects on my plate for a friend (and for the first time ever, I am starting a project for myself.) I’ve already let her know that my timeline is pretty unpredictable because I don’t like to have too many projects going on at once. I definitely appreciate everyone’s perspective, I’m glad I posted because you all gave amazing advice.

These were my first ever stuffies for a friend's twins who hired me to do them. She was incredibly happy with them, I charged her $50 total. She said that was way less than what she was quoted by others. I know theyre not perfect but did I over or under charge?

Pricing How to Price a Crochet Pattern?

I have just finished creating my newest pattern, and it is now in testing (except for the pdf version, which I am still editing and hope to have up tomorrow). The only issue is, this is the largest, most complex pattern I have ever made, and I don't know how much to charge for it.

Oleander the Trick-or-Treating Dragon is 10 inches tall when made with worsted weight yarn. He has 13 pieces that are sewn on, and a few more that are crocheted on, plus lots of surface crocheting.

To my fellow crocheters - if you designed this pattern, what would you charge? If you were buying this pattern, what would you consider a fair price?

Pricing My New Butterfly Collection

I’ve just finished the start of my butterfly collection. They are hand painted with resin. All replicas of real butterflies.
It took me 2 years to figure out how to make butterflies that look almost exact as the real thing, but not using an actual butterfly, but finally happy with this version.
Love to know what you guys think.
Also when it comes to pricing I was thinking from £50 to £100, but do you think it’s too much or not enough
Thank you for looking

Pricing How much would you sell it for?

Hi! I'm making this pseudo-blanket that, when closed, becomes a bouquet of roses. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm almost there; so far it's taken me about 15 hours in total. I wanted to ask your opinion on how much you'd sell it for. I don't have an hourly rate; I've never set one in all this time. What do you usually do? How much would you sell a piece like this for? For the roses I imagine it will be a couple of hours in total.

i’m selling these at an art market in a few weeks and am wondering what consumers would be willing to spend for these guys. i’ve been crocheting for 10 years but only did amigurumi the last 2. they’re around 8” (not including hats) with needle felted details and some glued hard felt pieces. pattern and characters are 100% mine and they’ll have tags with their name and bio. i’m marketing them as collectibles instead of toys.

im not very well seasoned in making plushes but was thinking of selling stuff over summer break.

I feel like it's kinda wonky but is it selling worthy? or do i need to improve a bit before considering it?

if you think it is worth selling how much would you pay for a smallish mid-sized plush like this?

(p.s any general tips on plush crochet will be appreciated 🥲)

Pricing How do you handle princing when you're a slow-ish crocheter

I'm kinda stuck, I know real value and reasonable prince with any fiber art is usually very different. I work as a freelancer in my field and was taught to use an average salary for my skill level and divide it by the working hours of a month to get an average of salary per hour (for crochet, I just pick minimal wage regardless)

Problem is I'm not the fastest, someone ask me if I could make them a plushie like one i showed them but it was 15cm tall made with 0.9mm hook so it took abt 14 days bc it has a lot of different pieces and sew-in details (therefore my way of princing would make it rlly expensive w/o even counting materials)

I just wondering if there's another precise way to measure the final cost or if I should just give up and under price it by whatever the "reasonable price" should be

I’m going to be doing my first market and I’m not sure what to price my work!! If I give myself an hourly wage I fear no one will buy them. I spend a lot of time on these, especially the ones with needle felted faces. I haven’t seen anyone in my area sell anything similar, I have seen some simpler chenille plushes around the same size go for around $40 CAD. Should I price based on size? Any help is appreciated!!!

Pricing Crocheters, do you include price of pattern in the price of the product you are selling? And how do you do it if it was a bundle offer?

I am not sure if I should include it because every toy/piece of clothing uses pattern that I only buy once, but at the same time, it is not profitable to not charge it. For bundle offers I feel like it should be if there are 10 patterns at theh were 20 dollars for example, you should charge 2 dollars for pattern/per crochet piece.

Pricing Embroidered shoes?

Post image
16 Upvotes

I recently started embroidering my shoes and had a thought of looking at selling ones I do in the future but came up with two questions

1) how much would you be willing to pay for a pair of hand embroidered shoes

2) would you prefer unbranded shoes (like in the pic, would make the cost cheaper) or branded such as vans or converse (probably better quality shoes but also would push the cost up considerably)

I've never sold crochet before but a friend who makes pins, stickers, stamps, and patches asked me to table with her at a local Pride fair at the end of the month.

I've made keychains (jellyfish, ice cream, rainbows), lanyards, hoya heart plants, and amigurumi snakes, bees, and rainbows. All in a variety of pride flag patterns. But I have no real idea what a sensible price would be for them!

For example, I was thinking $5 for the rainbow keychains, but the jellyfish took longer so $7 or $8 for those... but would people expect the same type of item (keychains) to all be the same price?

It took less than one skein at $8.99usd and took about 6 hours. It's for a family member to give to her great grandkid so it doesn't need to be what you'd charge at a market or anything. I was thinking $30ish because this is just a hobby and my time means nothing to me 🤣 I got to watch 3 movies I've been wanting to for a while so win-win lol

Pricing Finished

I've never considered selling my crafts. But I've had many ask how much I'd charge to make them things. What's the best way to go about pricing? What would you reasonably charge for this? It fit nicely on a queen size bed. The yarn itself was $4.99 a skein.
