In Person Selling First booth selling crochet. Advice?

(Included some of my work for fun!). I have crocheted for years. I've also helped my father have a booth at craft shows and festivals for years, though he sells vinyl art and stickers. I decided to try to have my own booth at a few shows this summer. I've been making as much inventory as I possibly can and have kept about 3 weeks or so in between shows so I can restock inbetween. I feel rather confident in selling in the sense I know the style, how to make a booth appealing, so on. But since I've never sold clothing/ crochet before, I'm wondering if anyone who does sell at festivals/craft shows has any advice? Anything you didn't think of that surprised you after you started selling? How much inventory do you have at a time? Any advice is welcome! Thank you

Love your work!  Display is the key to sales here, use as many body forms as you can, have racks to hang up everything else.  Good luck 🍀

Thank you! I have found some hanging plastic torsos pretty cheap online. Hopefully they work well!

Make sure you buy all the same kind so they stack on/in each other smoothly and don’t take up half your car.

Ew why did you make it about OP’s looks. That’s weird.

Yeah...at first I didn't even understand the comment. That's not actually me, but my best friend's daughter who models for my Etsy. (It was shared with her permission). Wasn't sure what it had to do with my post.

Do you have little removable tags you could add? You could specify size of garment and washing instructions:)

Yes I do!

If I were in the market (lol, get it?) for crochet apparel, something with a tag would actually get me to stop. For me personally it says the person who made it gave that little extra

Good luck with your booth!

I’d recommend wearing one of your pieces. That’s what someone at a booth I visited was doing, and it was great seeing it on a living person.

Don’t under price your peaces, if someone bitches about it calmly and happily tell the, how much effort went into it. And throw in a little something like. “Not everyone has the privilege to learn crochet so I put in the man hours to make it accessible that isn’t from a sweat shop” but said nicely of course. When people come up, stand up and say hello. Don’t rush into talking about your work, ask the, how they are, are they enjoying the markets ect. You got this!! I hope it goes well for you lovely ❤️❤️

Thank you for this!!! I've been struggling with my prices but you're totally right. Definitely going to price things what they're worth.

I thought of another one. If someone hits you with the “I can make this at home for way cheaper” just smile and say something like “I hope you enjoy making it”. Often those people want a reaction or for you to lower the price. Don’t let them freak you out. ❤️❤️

I have no advice but have a question. Are you supposed to wear something underneath the bralettes? I always thought no but I feel like the fabric would be uncomfortable for my nips. But idk cause ive never worn so I'm curious

Depends on the person! And the material. I use cotton or acrylic yarn, depending on the style and size. Most of my customers wear sticky bras with them. But many others just wear it as is. The cotton is usually very supportive, so I use it for my larger sizes more than acrylic. After one washing or steaming, is usually gets quite comfortable. :)

Oh nice! I rarely wear bras so I would perfer to go bra less if I had to wear one. Good to know! Thank you and good luck!! Hope you sell a bunch 😊 your sunflower sweater is abs adorable

Don't forget a mirror or a makeshift changing space if you feel inclined. Many of us don't purchase unless we can try it on, as body styles vary.

When you make the tag for your items you can actually put the number of hours it took for you to crochet/make the piece. Alot of people like to complain about the price but they don't understand just how long it takes to actually do. Add a small line and word it like "time to make" I've included an example pic...
