If we reserve our honor and praise only for those people who did no evil in their lives, not a single human will meet the standard, and we will have no heroes left.
Yes, Columbus was a terrible person. No point denying it, his own contemporaries thought so.
But what he did was incredible and world changing. We should celebrate his accomplishments and remember all aspects of the man.
But holding two thoughts at the same time about someone is two too many these days. Either someone is perfect and should be venerated, or they're all bad and should be forgotten no matter the achievements in life.
Put not your faith in princes, people.

The same people who try to erase Columbus, also erased Washington Redskins - a mascot based on a real dude (Thomas White Calf) who loved it. They also kicked off the Land-O-Lakes indian.

For those of us in Oregon, it’s the anniversary of the worst storm the state ever experienced, aptly named The Columbus Day Storm, which occurred in 1962.

Christopher Columbus's actual name was Cristoforo Columbo, he never called himself Columbus. So today is actually Columbo day
