Help picking cloud-native developer platforms

Evaluating Depot vs Namespace vs Blacksmith

Platform eng at a ~50-dev B2B SaaS company, everything on GitHub Actions. CI bill and queue times have roughly tripled since coding agents got rolled out internally.

Shortlist is Depot, Blacksmith, Namespace (open to other names!).

Questions for anyone running these in prod:

  1. Real-world speed/cost deltas vs stock GHA runners (marketing says 2x+, what did you actually see)?
  2. Anyone switched between these three?
  3. Did GitHub’s runner price cuts in January change your maths?
  4. What would you pick for Docker-build-heavy repo?

Not affiliated with any of them, just trying not to waste a quarter migrating twice.

Looking for advice for how to get started in azure

Due to family circumstances I have to take a year out of university, I'm currently studying computer science and would love to work in a cloud based role. I should be in my third year and live in the UK but I am taking the year off. What do you recommend I do in this year off? I have currently completed my AZ-900, AZ-104, SC-300 and I am currently studying for my SC-500. I feel so overwhelmed about getting into the cloud space and now due to this university situation I feel even more setback. Any advice on beginner jobs/CV tips for someone in my position and should I even be trying to get a small cloud job during my year off of university? All advice/tips are welcome, thank you.

How should I use the Learn to Cloud roadmap to prepare for higher studies and research?

Hey everyone!

I'm a Computer Science engineering student interested in cloud computing. I'm currently following the Learn to Cloud roadmap to build my fundamentals.

Roadmap : https://learntocloud.guide/curriculum

My long-term goal is to pursue higher studies and work on research related to cloud computing. Therefore, I want to gain practical experience alongside the roadmap rather than focus only on theoretical knowledge.

I'd appreciate your advice on a few questions:

How can I gain practical experience while following this roadmap?

Should I build projects alongside each phase?

What kinds of projects would help me develop research-oriented skills in cloud computing?

Should I aim for advanced, job-ready skills, or focus on strong fundamentals and practical skills that will prepare me for research?

My priority is to build a strong technical foundation for higher studies and research, rather than prepare exclusively for a job.

I'd appreciate any suggestions, resources, or personal experiences. Thanks!

Open-source collection of Cloud & AI certification cheat sheets (AWS, Azure, GCP, CKA)

Whenever I prepare for a new cloud certification, the most frustrating part is the final 48 hours before the test: flipping through hundreds of pages of notes just to double-check subtle service differences (like S3 tier retrieval times, VPC endpoints vs peering, or kubectl imperative commands).

To make the final review faster, I organized a curated set of architecture notes and cheat sheets into an open-source GitHub repo:

https://github.com/gocloudoku/cloud-certification-handbook-2026

What's covered so far:

• AWS: SAA-C03, DVA-C02, SOA-C02, DOP-C02, AI Practitioner (AIF-C01)

• Azure: AZ-900, AZ-104, AZ-305

• Google Cloud: Associate Cloud Engineer & Professional Cloud Architect

• DevOps / Containers: Kubernetes CKA quick-commands & Terraform Associate (003)

• AI: Bedrock, RAG architectures, model fine-tuning trade-offs

Each guide focuses strictly on high-yield exam traps and architecture decision matrices. I've also linked interactive practice exam questions from Cloudoku where you can test knowledge retention for free without a signup wall.

It's completely open source (MIT license). If you find any service limits that changed recently or have suggestions for additions, feel free to open a PR or suggest them here.

Hope this helps anyone testing this month!

What's next after 2.5 years of DevOps?

Dear tech community,

I'm from India, and I've been working as a DevOps Engineer for the last 2.5 years at an IT service-providing company. Our team provides DevOps and SRE support to clients. This is my first company.

I've provided full support for the architectures below. However, I haven't set up any of them on my own. I know how to manage the existing architecture and keep the operations running.

  • Monolithic architecture: e-commerce application (main web app, admin, POS, etc.).
  • Microservice architecture: Financial SAAS product (web) - Loan management, origin and Supply chain finance.

I've got a strong foundation in DevOps, including cloud infrastructure management, automation, CI/CD, virtualisation, monitoring and observability, containerization and container orchestration, etc.

However, I have some missing pieces, such as IaC.

Now, I'm looking forward to a change within tech. I've decided to leave my present company. Instead of keeping pay as the only factor in choosing my next company, I've decided to pause and think about making a meaningful move.

I'm kindly requesting your suggestions for me. What are the different flavours to be explored out there in the ocean of IT, I wonder!

Advice for a newly promoted cloud Administrator?

I was recently promoted at my job to Cloud Administrator, a position that didn't exist at first that they got approval from HR to create. I spearheaded the project of setting up configurations and app pushes in Intune as well as automated configurations for new machines which we are fully joining (making us a hybrid environment with machines that were already existing on prem AD based with the ability to receive Intune config pushes).

I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestion or advice on how to get a good start in this role. What kind of monitoring should I set up that won't be too expensive, what's the best way to go about resource cleanup and management, what are some first order of business items that would put me in a good spot? I have the AZ-900 and AZ-104 certs, currently studying for AZ-305.

Thank you very much!

Software Dev to Cloud DevOps

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I have been a web developer / software developer for 4 years now and am wanting to make the switch to Cloud DevOps. I’ve applied for a few jobs but I don’t really have experience with AWS/the cloud with a view to go security focussed in the future as I’m currently doing a part-time Cyber Security MSc online.

Any advice for how to break into a cloud role would be amazing - I’m in the UK if that’s relevant. Thanks in advance

How hard is it to switch cloud/DevOps platforms in a bad job market?

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask hypothetically, if someone had 4–5 years of cloud/Devops engineering experience, primarily with AWS, and the market shifted heavily toward Azure, how difficult would it be for them to find a cloud engineering job in a difficult job market like the one we’re in now? Would having mostly AWS experience significantly hurt their chances if most of the available Cloud/DevOps jobs were Azure-oriented?

Looking for Cloud Internships / Entry-Level Roles – AWS, Azure, GCP & VMware VCP/VCF

I’m currently learning cloud and looking for internships or entry-level opportunities to get some real experience. Right now, I’m learning AWS Cloud Practitioner and VMware VCP/VCF, while I have basic knowledge and familiarity with most major cloud platforms. I’m still early in the learning process and mainly want to find an opportunity where I can gain practical, hands-on experience.

I’m not specifically focused on VMware as a career path right now. I’m just learning it alongside AWS because I’m not sure what will be in demand in the future, so I’d rather build knowledge across different areas and see where it takes me. I’d appreciate any recommendations for companies, internships, or entry-level roles that are open to beginners.
