Use cases What are the coolest use cases for your dots?

Am wondering, what are some of the most unusual and creative ways you guys are using your dots? It’s pretty new and am sure people are using for all kinds of stuff !

I’m old and clueless so…what are dots? 🙂

I'm old and clueless as well. I asked ChatGPT about this! Apparently it's not available on the free version. And I'm not ready to shell out $20 a month for ChatGPT. But it's similar to an assistant, as others have mentioned in this thread. I'm retired so I can't really see a benefit yet for me personally!

Just looked at my $20 version and it’s also not available. $100 month for dots. 🤯

Meta’s Muse is the same thing, but it’s free if you want to try it out and see if Dots might be worth the price

Thank you! And to all! So far Chat hasn’t tried to market to me. I’m sure they will eventually. 🙂

Apparently it's a task you can assign to your bot to do in the background.

I think this is how old people are forced into keeping up. But, to be fair, this was a heck of a broad stroke.. so thank you for asking 😅😂

I just read every single comment here and am still lost

It's essentially a programmable auto-agent that doesn't have to be activated or prompted (after the initial prompt). It's just a terrible name and is only available on certain tiers, so if you didn't get the explanations it's unclear about what it does.

u/InsubordinateX 13h ago

That's exactly the point 😉😁

I feel like I'm under utilizing its abilities, but I have it doing a couple of things.

I have it watching for a sale price on an item I want to buy - checks online sites, ads etc, factors shipping, currency exchange etc every morning.. I have Muse doing the same thing and it actually found a deal that dot didn't (and actually even the store staff didn't know about).

My dot is also doing a work task for me by monitoring a site that has a huge list of registered professionals and worksites tof inding any changes in the list - categorize the change etc and then email it to me. This site only allows access like this in the middle of the night so its great that it just runs at the designated time. I used to do this manually and it would take hours per week. Now - no time.

I have another project that I'm working on that I think I'll use dot for log monitoring.

I think there are way more things it can do - just have to think of them.

You're doing GREAT 👍 😁😅

That's exactly what the other answers here, collectively, want you to think. 9/10 will be AI answering it's own questions and fluffing itself. You're NOT a bad person, an absent spouse or parent, a crappy friend, etc, etc.. But making you think that is exactly what the questions are designed to do to us.

Every Thursday, dot checks local grocery stores for deals on the things our family actually buys.

It emails the results to my wife, who manages our grocery purchases.

I checked with dot to confirm the details.

We started by giving it our preferences:

🔸 The stores we shop at

🔸 The foods and brands we buy

🔸 The cuts of meat we prefer

🔸 Whether we’re willing to use coupons

🔸 How often we want to make a shopping trip

For example, we prefer chicken thighs and wings.

A sale on chicken breasts or drumsticks doesn’t help us.

We also want name-brand cereal and chips, and deli ham sliced at the counter rather than prepackaged.

For each deal, dot checks:

🔸 Price per ounce or pound

🔸 Package size

🔸 Sale expiration date

🔸 Coupon and membership requirements

🔸 Purchase minimums and quantity limits

It records prices in a spreadsheet so we can compare them over time.

It also checks between Thursdays for exceptional deals and avoids sending us the same offer repeatedly.

We already get weekly Walmart delivery and make Costco trips roughly every two months.

We have a deep freezer, so stocking up can make sense, but we don’t want to drive around chasing every small discount.

Once my wife chooses what she wants, the calendar step is meant to find a convenient shopping opportunity before the sales expire, ideally while I’m already near the store.

“Grocery fulfillment process” that’s going on my resume lol

"Petroleum Transfer Technician"

Sanitation Engineer

It's a nice use case. For anyone interested but not on a pro plan, most of it could be done by connecting chat to your google calendar and creating a price alert.

I hope you save $100 per month on groceries

6

u/CCContent 9h ago

So many people are acting like the only thing that makes it worth it is a direct 1:1 monetary savings, but it can actually be so much more valuable than that.

I don't know how long it would take this guy to do all of those things, but lets just say 4 hours a week. I don't know if you have kids, but I would consider it a FREAKING STEAL if I could buy another 16 hours a month of time with my kids for $100.

u/SlamperDamper 11h ago

Who knows what else they use the service for, it's probably not JUST this, joker

1

u/Northern_Virginia 10h ago

Why $100?

2

u/redditnick 4h ago

That’s the cost of dots

1

u/nopartygop 12h ago

His is such a cool idea! I was asking my dot about where to buy turkeys yesterday and it was very helpful.

-1

u/InsubordinateX 13h ago

Is it horrible of me to think that this answer- while it is a very real capability of the dots functions- is just a load actual b.s.? Edited to add: Please note, this question is not asking whether or not I'm correct.. I'm just curious- if asking it makes me horrible.

2

u/Northern_Virginia 10h ago

I'm not sure if I understand your question

-1

u/InsubordinateX 9h ago

Sorry, nevermind my question, I just try to deflect my own shittiness sometimes

Taking down Onyxia.

fuckin ANCIENT reference

Pretty much my personal assistant at work. Checks emails and teams messages, keeps me on top of tasks and reminds me of things I haven’t followed up on. Preps me for meetings and gives me an outlook for the day every morning first thing.

Im writing an app with CODEX and am using Dot to take a portion of it on its own. Its far better and persistent task management and the quality of the work increased. I gave it a second portion of the project and its equally fast to get through. I've been writing a book for a while and its better at keeping notes and a ledger to know what to include where as we explore the ideas. Yesterday I had it start making a 3D rendering of my house so that I can have a better understanding of the wiring, structure, and evaluating of voids like under the stairs or behind a room.

I really like it and its meeting my needs as good if not better than codex, with an easier interface too.

I send my girl’s school menu everyday to my husband based on the monthly pdf they send us.

I also set important email alerts

And daily reminders.

Love my dot!

-2

u/InsubordinateX 13h ago

Your husband thanks you for this, I bet

Mine is basically my personal debugger at this point. I just dump error logs in the chat and it explains what went wrong faster than me scrolling through stackoverflow. Also used it to write a script that renames all my downloads folder files by date, saved me from the chaos in there

3

u/arbpotatoes 8h ago

Normal chat has been able to do these things for 4 years though

Meta Muse is free and pretty much the same thing as Dots. Just a note for anyone thinking they better upgrade to use Dots lol it'll come to Plus soon enough

1

u/SkipTracePro 3h ago

What do you use it for

1

u/BlandstenG 13h ago edited 13h ago

The Dot ad shows it as an always-on agent. Like Her, sort of. Haven’t signed up and might have this wrong but a lot of these seem like scheduled tasks that wouldn’t require the Pro fee. It doesn’t appear to be available in Plus or free versions.

u/ventedeasily 10h ago

He's fetching

u/Readyman2627 6h ago

I have found it hard to tell what it’s doing or if it’s waiting for a response from me. I’ve since asked it to give me a short progress listing any follow up needed from me but if it has some kind of indicator built in that would be nice.

Creating bot swarms that hack into federally moderated data sets. Lately those little fuzzy buggers. Have really enjoyed looking into bioweapons manufactured under government funding. Oh boy do we have some real treats coming up? You thought covid was bad?

-2

u/Immediate_Channel393 11h ago

I don’t have access to Dots on my plus plan and don’t feel like upgrading.

9

u/Ayyyyylmaos 10h ago

Thanks for adding nothing to the conversation

-3

u/AdhesiveSeaMonkey 11h ago

I'm not. I'm not in the $100, $200, or $500/month plan market. Even then, it hasn't rolled out to all of those plans, or even everyone in any of the plans.
