Clearly I'm just very behind the times, but until today I had NO idea ChatGPT could make playable games!
Inspiration from a post I saw on here earlier about the ads in 'Meowdoku' so they created a similar style game with Chat.
I've been experimenting this morning and I’ve just made this game called Orbit 🌙 You control a little moon circling a planet, and tap to switch between two tracks to dodge obstacles. Each obstacle you pass earns a point, and it gradually gets faster. Crash and you start again. Simple, but very addictive 🤣
There’s also a leaderboard at the bottom. After a run, you can enter your chosen name and submit your score. It's crazy what we can do these days.

EDIT: I have made another game.
Prism Path is a one-tap music and rhythm game. Tap to turn at each corner, following the beat through colourful 3D-style worlds. It has four increasingly difficult levels, distinct soundtracks, changing scenery, practice checkpoints and leaderboards. Link in comments!
EDIT!! If you like Tetris, and word games... I've made something I'm going to be obsessed with for ages and ages. Please see the 3rd link in my comment below!
Has anyone else made anything? Please post links and I'll have a go :)
You could consider giving extra points for "unnecesarry but risky lane changes". It's kind of a mini game in your game which I started playing, especially as it starts rather slow and easy before it gets fast.
One other polish would be to for a split second show where one hit something, not just instantly switch to the game over screen. This would also give one a chance to see how close you're allowed to be to the obstacles.
Also, I have to thank you for making a game where I am currently on top of the leaderboard at 94. I've never played a game ever (45+ years of playing) where I have topped a leaderboard!! O_O
Thank you so much for playing! I've just made some minor changes including being able to add your own name again to the score board, this time it should asterisk over any rude names. Well done for being top of the scoreboard!!
Thanks for trying it, your game is a great concept! Definitely keep tweaking it and making it better, i'd love to see what it turns into after a few dozen tweaks, there is so much you could add to it.
Honestly, not long at all! It's super easy once you get the hang of it. It maybe helps that I pay for the plus subscription. I managed to create 3 games in just a few hours and I've uploaded them to their own website now I've called an Arcade 🤣.
I do understand about the life dilemmas though! It seems to be 'thinking' forever, on the most basic things.
When i give my chatgpt a really long task and it is thinking sometimes so much time willl pass but there wont be a result and me asking a follow up question to check how its going will only make it worse because there will be an error...
HAHA! That tickled me 🤣 I see you at number 3! Well done 🙌🏻 Sometimes the simplest games are the most addictive aren't they! Any suggestions on how I can make it better?
Moi j'ai tenté un puissance 4, mais chatgpt avait du mal à mettre à jour le score sans se planter, c'était très drôle xD
à la fin, j'avais 6 pièces rouges alignées mdr, il l'avait même pas remarqué :p
I've heard people doing this but I honestly have no idea how.. Like how do you go from explaining to chatgpt how you want the game to look like and play, rules etc, to actually playing it?
I used the “Work” option in ChatGPT 😊 Start a new chat, choose Work, and try something like:
“Build me a playable game as a website using Sites. [Describe your idea, rules and how you want it to look.] Make it work on mobile with touch controls.”
It builds the game, then you can try it and ask for changes in the chat—things like “make it easier” or “add a leaderboard that saves everyone’s scores.”
Once you’re happy, ask it to publish the website and give you a public link. Good luck!
You give it full access to your computer and tell it to put the game accessible easily on your desktop. Or an app on your phone. Try an inspiration from your favourite games. Describe exactly what you want to Chat GPT first. Then read everything it says and correct anything that doesn’t sound right or good to you and keep going back and forth until you start getting excited about the image it’s painting in your mind reading it’s brainstorming with you. Then ask it to give you the first most important prioritized prompt to get the game going to paste into Codex, as well as a goal prompt. Send the first prompt. Then click the thing that brings up attachments and photos in Codex. Select Pursue Goal, then paste the goal into the chat and send it. That’s all you need to do.
The unlock for me was meta prompting. I explain to ChatGPT what I want and ask it to give me a prompt for development purposes. It’s much better and way more detailed that I would ever be. I have hermes agents set up and wired in to codex and give the prompt to it. See what it does and then iterate from there. I also just learned about mcp servers and the ArtCraft suite to tie in element creation. ArtCraft mcp use will be a gamechanger for game development.
Depending on the game it might be trickier but actually starting with " Make a game like "vampire survivors" in unity" would literally make a functional game with several characters and stages.
Then add specific things like more characters, stages, weapons etc..
Using Claude to make a rimworld/going medieval/dwarf fortress game now. Most of the systems are in place for settlers, prisoners, trade, politics, kingdoms rising and falling etc.
Need to tell it to make some models that are more advanced, i currently only have 1 goblin model that i explicitly told it to make and implement that is decent quality. The rest is simple unity models as placeholder.
The fact it catches and fixes issues as it discovers them is just crazy, i haven't actually had an actual error pop up during play.
Check out Claude design. I’ve used it for my game and the models are pretty detailed and animated. I had it make a generator and it generated its own side effects, wear and tear simulation, smoke, etc.
One of the very first things I used chatgpt for other than images and vacation itineraries and meal plans or whatever was a game that my 7 year old kid proposed in the car one day. Just to see what it could do.
And it was great! It turned the kid's drawing into a functional UI. Generated the images and text we needed. It was very simple mechanics—more of a trivia/quiz type of game with a persistent scoreboard at the end.
The kids and their friends got a kick out of it for a few days as we iterated on it a bit, and then we moved on. Could have continued to add quiz questions to keep it up, but it proved the concept and it was fun.
I've since made lots of other apps and websites with it, for work and personal stuff. But yeah, it would be great for creating cool little games like this.
