Educational Purpose Only With the open sourcing of Adobe and other softwares, is it possible to opensource chatgpt or other ais?
I have no clue on how ai works , was curious and asked. I did install an llm on my computer using ollama but it was very bad. My pc dont have enough power(8gb) so i could install big model.

Does anyone want to tell him about local LLMs?

If you would learn how to read, then you would notice that OP mentioned installing an LLM on their computer with ollama.

These apps are not the Adobe apps but open-source, they are from-scratch projects that aim to create a carbon-copy of Adobe's interfaces.
Theoretically, yes, it is possible to build an LLM clone of, say GPT-6, with a process referred to as knowledge distillation, basically trying to reverse-engineer the model's "brain".
However, this process is long and intensive, and OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, etc, all have counter-measures in-place to prevent it from happening, as they believe Chinese AI labs are doing exactly this with their models. Kimi K3 is accused of being created through distillation.
It's very difficult to prove this however, so it's mostly just empty accusations.

Not in a way that matters.
The website/app is cool and you could reverse engineer it without much trouble, but what's actually interesting is the AI and that sits in some datacenter where you don't actually have access to. You just send in a message and get a response.
Even if you could, the AI wouldn't run on your system and requires hardware that's at the very least hundres of thousands of bucks.
That being said, open source/open weight AIs do exist, but especially those running on your own hardware are way less powerful than ChatGPT. Most of these models are based on the same or similar research and trained on the same or similar data though.
In terms of reverse engineering ChatGPT like what you're likely refering to in your question, the closest thing you can do for something like ChatGPT is a "distillation" where you basically ask a powerful model (ChatGPT) questions and note down the answers, then you train your own model on these question and answer pairs. This gives you a model that is trained to respond like the bigger, more powerful model, but it's not quite the same.

Ok thanks for explaining and also defending me ,a newbie in this space. Idk why they r feeling so superior while answering questions. I hope not everyone here is that egotistical lol.

Local llms are a thing. You're talking about distilling a model. This is where you can use a models answers to train a model based off it. OpenAI/ anthropic will ban you for doing this.

I wonder if anyone talking about the "open sourcing" of these apps have actually used any of them. They are so far from clones, the many existing free alternatives (many of which are open source) are light years ahead of the craft apps. If it wasn't for how they were made they would have been added to a long list of copies and forgotten about pretty quick.

For some reason the Adobe one is getting heaps of hype and press coverage. Yet gimp exists.

I tried them all out. They're no gimp, or Inkscape, Libre or open office. Nothing even close to free office 365 or Google apps.
I understand why this is big news, everyone hates the predatory behavior of Adobe and Microsoft. Bring em down , but let's not roll shit in glitter and tell everyone it's gold.

Gimp isn't the only open source graphics solution. That being said, gimp kind of sucks and severly lacks in the usability department. Not to mention the questionable name choice.
I haven't found any other tools that I find as intuitive as Photoshop. I'll give this one a try though.

You think those vibe coded art programs are equally as good as frontier ones? lol.

Obtain openweight model, equipment . All tools to run it - already exist.
Probably your pc can handle 27b model
To run something closer to OpenAI - you need Qwen 3.8 or Kimi K3 without quantization (full version), estimated equipment cost is 600.000$ (i may be wrong), and you won't hit OpenAI lvl, cos their models better anyway and are closed.

If you had a datacenter with a few hundred B200 gpus you could probably run gpt6 😅
