[Schefter] While other have debated whether Justin Herbert should be traded, the Chargers have not.

Yeah there is zero reason to trade him.

there is a reason, box score watchers and rage bait content creators said to do it so I guess they are right.

2

u/Mr_Suplex 14h ago

The reason would be to get some value out of him before he goes Andrew Luck and retires early. The owner and front office have continually shown they don’t want to support him, and the dude has taken way more hits than Luck did.

It’s a win-win to trade him at this point. Plenty of teams would pay a haul for him. Let him shine somewhere and let the Chargers rebuild.

u/im-not-him 14h ago

You are making it seem as if we would be able to find a QB the next day, as bad as this season is, being in the QB purgatorium is worse

-5

u/ProfessorSillyPutty . 12h ago

Right? Remember how bad it was for the Seahawks in 2024 with Geno smith after they traded away perennial Prowler and former Super Bowl champ Russell Wilson for a bag? Then in 2025 they moved on to Sam Freaking Darnold. It was an embarrassing offseason.

I can’t remember what happened in 2025 season though. But man, QB purgatory is hell.

-8

u/Honbomb 12h ago

how is it worse? There's always hope of hitting a QB in the next draft if you're in purgatory, if you're losing with one you're paying $60m there's not a lot of hope.

-9

u/mamamackmusic Felipe Rios 12h ago

Going into qb purgatory still means there is actual hope in finding a starter who will take us to the next level eventually. We know Herbert isn't that guy at this point and sticking with him and seeing this same lame product over and over again is an exercise in futility.

4

u/SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS 11h ago

There is that chance. And a much larger chance we are in the same situation in four years time with a QB even less valuable.

-5

u/mamamackmusic Felipe Rios 11h ago

Which is exactly why we should trade Herbert now while his value is high so we have a better chance of both finding a viable long term starter as a replacement in the draft and building a winning roster around whomever we end up starting. Not trading Herbert by the middle of next season likely means we will get almost nothing for him or nothing at all with the same result: no wins in meaningful games and a decaying culture because all the players will know the Chargers are a sinking ship tied to a qb who can't win and whose mental game is broken.

32

u/clutterlustrott ASAP 14h ago

Yeah we got herbert, but a mystery QB could be anyone. They could even be herbert!

-1

u/UnhappyRough1964 10h ago

Or it could be a better qb

-1

u/Superdoggywhaaaat 14h ago

Seattle traded Russel, and became Super Bowl champs. Lions look good after trading Stafford.

I wouldn’t completely rule out trading him. Harbaugh is a run minded HC.

20

u/nartnoside 14h ago

Seattle is a much more well rounded team than us post Wilson. They had playmakers on offense and a solid defense.

Lions had a couple years for a SB window and now it’s past them due to having no defense.

-1

u/Superdoggywhaaaat 14h ago

Like whom for Seattle?

Also, Lions were able to rebuild using the Stafford assets. Lions trading away their star QB made it happen, same with Seattle.

Even then like I mentioned, it seems like Harbaugh is a run minded coach. Getting value for Herbert does you no harm.

1

u/chic_peas 13h ago

Did you say like whom for Seattle when they had arguably the best WR and at least top 3 HB last year.

1

u/Superdoggywhaaaat 13h ago

Yes because trading away Russel planted the seeds. It wasn’t until after the Russel trade they got those assets. When he said “they had” I assume he meant before Russel trade”.

4

u/chic_peas 13h ago

None of those were from the Wilson trade. They also went 3 years without a playoff win after trading him.

1

u/Superdoggywhaaaat 11h ago

That’s to ignore the fact that offloading Russel didn’t help Seattle create a better team which is the point. Not sure why you are choosing to disregard that.

1

u/chic_peas 11h ago

Look I'm not saying it didn't help at all, but I think that already having a QB is probably better than the luck of trying to find one. Seattle also hired a very good head coach and hit big on draft picks and had a pretty weak playoffs last year. I mean that pats team they played in the super bowl should be a first round exit type team.

2

u/Jane_Marie_Lazy i don’t know what we are doing 14h ago

I genuinely believed the Legion of Boom + rookie contract carried Russ into the SB.

Herbert is a lot better than Wilson. Ex: Payton wanted to be Herbert’s coach and then went to Denver to dump Russ.

1

u/Honbomb 12h ago

Trading him would have come along with firing Harbaugh. Don't want him anywhere near whatever we do next.

-4

u/Honbomb 13h ago

There's tons of reason. Getting 3 first round picks, firing everyone and starting over isn't the worst option on the table.

107

u/stillblazin19 Felipe Rios 14h ago

At a certain point Herbert is going to get tired of the fuckery and getting hit more than any other QB in the league.

That’s what the team needs to worry about

36

u/Mr_Suplex 14h ago

Exactly. Dude has taken more hits than Andrew Luck at equivalent points in their careers. He’s rich and engaged to a beautiful woman. Why keep playing for a team that sends him out to die every week?

4

u/TNTyoshi . 8h ago edited 8h ago

Bro seems like he has no HoF résumé aspirations, and is more than fine playing for the Chargers and living in Los Angeles with his celebrity wife. Like would he really choose to go to say, Minnesota, where he has a better chance to win a ring? I don’t think so.

3

u/Thickensick Felipe Rios 13h ago

One concussion and he’s out of there.

27

u/TheTimeWeWaste 14h ago

I always chuckle at the yeet Herbert comments. Look at the browns, look at the colts, look at the jets, people act like QBs fall out of the sky, but the truth is a top 20 QB is hard to find, let alone a top 10 or top 5 that most of us believe Herbert to be.

I love to consider the Darnold situation in Seattle. No one put Darnold high on the QB list, but some how he managed to win a Super Bowl… it’s almost like he had a fully functioning team around him.

4

u/everyonekalmdown 13h ago

You would literally think people would stop trying to blame everything on the Good QB in the obvious horrible situation after watching JALEN HURTS and SAM DARNOLD win super bowls the last 2 years. Like man we have an elite qb on our team and were wasting it. It’s not the other way around.

5

u/let-me-get-your-temp 13h ago

But doesn't Darnold disprove your own point? The hawks have one of the best rosters in the league outside of QB where darnold just plays good to great instead of average. That was enough to get them a superbowl win versus us with a borderline elite QB and awful roster. It is a team game after all

4

u/TheTimeWeWaste 13h ago

The point I was trying to make is that it’s a team game at the end of the day. I feel like a lot of the internet/media associates winning with QB play and essentially nothing else. Darnold being “good enough” is a great example of how there is a lot more than a QB on a team.

We could look to the lions and Stafford as well. It’s not like Stafford became an MVP at 37. He’s always been amazing QB with very little help from the Lions as a whole. As soon as he went to a fully functional team, suddenly the success is flowing.

2

u/let-me-get-your-temp 13h ago

Yea and people argue that if we just get one QB who is good enough while we stack actual high level talent everywhere else then we would be in a better spot.

0

u/superc3real Felipe Rios 12h ago

I think the point is people overuse the word 'elite' for physical talent and not enough for the mental aspects of playing QB. Darnold doesn't have Herbert's physical talent but he has shown to be much better at running an offense, limiting mistakes and getting rid of the ball quickly.

3

u/let-me-get-your-temp 11h ago

He got MVP votes last year for a reason and was playing like a top 8 QB most of the year. Calling him borderline elite is not an exaggeration. Herberts talents aren't all physical either

2

u/itsyorboy 10h ago

This narrative of him having no field vision just started this year cause he's clearly not seeing it well right now. But he has been pretty solid protecting the football throughout his career and he's never been a 1 read guy

94

u/gsavior 14h ago

Rightfully so

88

u/C-N-Mento 14h ago

Anyone in this fanbase who wants to trade Herbert is out of their mind.

If we trade him, then what’s the plan at QB after him? Talent wise, he’s top 5 in this league. No rookie that we could draft would be even remotely close to the level of him. So how would he be replaced?

50

u/Disastrous_Dress_201 14h ago

Yeah. We lucked into Brees to Rivers to Herbert. I dont want to watch years of journeyman after journeyman.

Half of this fanbase would tuck tails and run to switch teams if we fell into a true hole at QB.

8

That or they’d have amnesia and pretend they never wanted to trade Herbert. And blame everyone else.

3

u/saucysagnus 13h ago

Absolutely true.

0

u/LakeShowBoltUp r/AFCWestMemeWar 10h ago

This fanbase already ran Joe Lombardi out of town after averaging 25.5 PPG over two years, which would be top 10 in the NFL today. Instead we have a 3rd worst offense in the league and less than 17 ppg. The grass is not always greener.

1

u/Nunc_Coepi17 1h ago

Yeah because the fanbase makes personnel decisions right? Gtfoh

2

u/inmy_head 14h ago

Don’t forget Eli Manning

8

u/McLaren03 14h ago

Exactly. Top 5 is hard to say but top 10 for sure. For some reason people keep saying Arch Manning. Those folks are out of their minds if they think that is a viable option. This also brings up the point that no matter how bad a QB is, what you have will be good for teaching the backup. A perfect example of that is the Raiders. For all their faults, the QB situation is the most ideal with how they are teaching up Mendoza.

5

u/C-N-Mento 14h ago

Even if you want to say top 10, do these people know how hard it is to find that? Teams have spent decades trying to find a quarterback at the level that Herbert has played at.

Anyone who watched CFB on a weekly basis should know that Arch isn’t even a first round talent at this point. His last name is the only thing keeping him relevant.

2

u/--KillSwitch-- Go Blue 👏🤕 13h ago

5

u/everyonekalmdown 13h ago

Literally the dumbest shit ever. Trade him so we can still suck and then try to find another QB in hopes hes as good as the guy we just traded?

-7

u/mamamackmusic Felipe Rios 12h ago

Herbert is playing like a bottom 5 starter in the NFL. The Chargers would legitimately be better if they were paying chump change to Brissett or Mac Jones or whatever and had the extra cap to build a truly elite roster rather than paying elite qb money to a talented but mid starter while having to scrape together a patchwork roster around him. Sticking with Herbert is a losing proposition that will lock the team into mediocrity as long as he is being paid as the starter.

1

u/-Mad-Snacks- 11h ago

wtf are you talking about? This team had the money to build an “elite” roster and just didn’t. No QB would look good in this situation. The scheme is ass. The playcalling is ass. The OL and weapons are ass and injured

1

u/everyonekalmdown 7h ago

Just typing a whole load of bullshit lmaooo

5

u/okpause8976 14h ago

this fanbase thinks talent just grows on trees and ignores the 16 other teams who would give everything up to have a starting caliber qb

2

u/-HawaiianSurfer ⚡️ Herb ⚡️ 7h ago

I’d rather the tean fire Jim and Joe only to replace them with Staley and Telesco before they even think about trading Herbert.

5

u/mamamackmusic Felipe Rios 12h ago edited 12h ago

Talent doesn't mean squat if you can't win when it matters. Herbert has top 5 talent but he is playing like a bottom 5 starter in the nfl so far this season after having two decent but not stellar seasons before that, meaning his career appears to be on a downward trajectory. If this was one of his first few seasons, it would be understandable, but he is in year 7 and he looks worse in the basic mental aspects of the game than he did in his first couple of seasons as a starter. It is delusional to talk about Herbert as if he is anything above a league average starter at this stage (though in reality he appears to be well below that) and the longer this team is tied to him, the longer this team will remain mediocre and won't win anything.

This team will be better off trading him and in a couple of seasons when the cap hit from his guaranteed money is minimal, we can either be playing with a drafted qb with a reasonable salary or pay a league average or slightly above average journeyman veteran decent qb money and use the extra money to build an elite roster around either of those options. It's a way better option than doing the same thing with Herbert over and over and not accomplishing anything while Herbert gets paid like he is Allen/Mahomes/Lamar/Stafford while playing like he is closer to Andy Dalton or Jacoby Brissett than any of those elite guys outside of like a couple of plays a game.

2

u/kb24_mamba 14h ago

I’m on the trade Herbo train just because of how big of a fan I am of the guy and it feels like he’s been setup for failure here. Through all the criticism he’s been professional, granted he does get paid a lot. But he’s the kind of dude, à la Mack and Derwin, you want as a fan to trade just so they have a chance to win.

2

u/basedcharger 10 14h ago edited 14h ago

It really doesn't make any sense if you think about it for more than 2 seconds. The defense is good. If you believe in Herbert that means you have a QB 2 tackles and 1 WR with tons of cap and high draft picks.

This roster is not terrible it just has fatal flaws that can be fixed. You trade Herbert whats the sense in keeping the tackles at that point? For a QB you'd want to get in 2 years anyways?

To me trading Herbert only makes sense if you don't believe hes a good QB anymore. The people who do believe hes still good and want to entertain the idea of trading him dont make any sense.

2

u/KunaiForce 14h ago

lol a crazy fan base that has zero patience

2

u/mamamackmusic Felipe Rios 12h ago

It's year 7. Herbert is not a young player who is new to the NFL anymore. He is who he is and he is clearly regressing in the mental aspects of qb play that the greats would be hitting their stride with by this point in their careers. He is not the guy that is going to win a SB with the Chargers and it looks increasingly likely that he won't even be able to manage to win a playoff game. He is not worth the money we are paying him and the team and him would be better off if they parted ways.

1

u/Nunc_Coepi17 1h ago

Zero patience? Brother mfer is almost 30 lmfao

3

u/PeedmuhhSheets 14h ago

He’s not top 5 lol. “Talent wise” only goes so far, he’s in year 7.

3

u/Thickensick Felipe Rios 13h ago

He’s been top 5ish every year until this year where he’s somehow hot garbage.

1

u/PeedmuhhSheets 13h ago

Top 5 in what? What ifs? Hes top 10 that’s it. He has not been better than Allen, Stafford, Lamar, Mahomes or Purdy for at least 2-3 years now.

6

u/Thickensick Felipe Rios 13h ago

The Chargers were his guests in the playoffs the last two years. If you don’t watch chargers games, you just don’t know that he has been the entire offense. Hero play after hero play in spite of it all. He got an MVP vote!

And I don’t mean to belittle those guys in comparison (except mahomes, he was ass last year), that’s why I said 5ish.

1

u/FullishCantaloupe bolt 6h ago

lmfao its like, yeah the team fucking sucks, let's make it even worse in one more extremely difficult way to unfuck.

1

2

u/BlaqJeezus 14h ago

I want it for his sake. I have no delusions of it improving our team.

-2

u/PeedmuhhSheets 14h ago

He makes too much money, he’s proven he can’t elevate a low talent team. His success these last 2 years has been due to the really good defense. If we took money from them and gave it to the offense, we’d have defensive issues. Hes getting paid like he’s Allen and Mahomes and Lamar but he isn’t them, he’s a whole other tier below them.

9

u/Stunning_Pound4121 13h ago

“He’s proven he can’t elevate a low team”

Were you born three weeks ago? That’s the only way this isn’t the stupidest comment ever made in this sub.

4

u/PeedmuhhSheets 13h ago

He can’t. 27-0 playoff collapse. Hasn’t done anything in the playoffs. Only success he’s had is mostly due to the defense. He does not play like he’s a $50 mil qb

0

u/Stunning_Pound4121 13h ago

I’ll take it you’re going for option 2.

2

0

u/Jane_Marie_Lazy i don’t know what we are doing 13h ago edited 13h ago

He really isn’t overpaid. Guys like Kurt Cousins can command 5 yrs / $172M contracts. Geno is at $20M for a 1 yr. Baker just got $55M and can’t say a lot on paper, except the year he inherited Tom’s team.

Herbert 28 yrs old, 2 pro bowls…he’s going to be $45M-$50M in the open market - minimum.

The only vets that are cheap are unproven back ups, like Malik Willis. This off season, Darnold will need a new contract. It’s probably $55M-$60M. Let’s see how Seattle handles the new contact & their cap space.

0

u/Prologic87 14h ago

I want him to have the opportunity to get a ring and a HOF place. He's not getting it here.

In any case we need to rebuild for the next 2 to 3 years. We don't need a good qb for that. We could built an excellent roster and trade for an experienced and solid but bang average qb later.

-1

u/cat_daddylambo Mike McDONEiel 10h ago

Sam darnold is the current defending super bowl champion QB.

You can get a lot of capital for Herbert to build a good roster

12

u/sirsebbie 14h ago edited 12h ago

The Chargers have not, but the concern should be if Herbert has debated whether or not he should be traded.

-3

u/pm_me_your_last_pics 3 13h ago

This type of take is the absolute worst. Let's just make something up. Has he debated retiring to play soccer? Will he become an astronaut and go to mars? Will he become a singer full time? I'm not sure but now we all need to be concerned with the possibilities.

2

u/sirsebbie 13h ago

What did i make up? words like “if” and “should” aren’t definitive statements nor did I claim he was actively seeking a trade? I would not be surprised if the most hit QB in the league would request a trade after multiple seasons of this team not investing in his protection, that seems more likely than him wanting to be an astronaut in mars? lol you thought you did something..

-1

u/pm_me_your_last_pics 3 13h ago

It's pointless to be "concerned" about something when there is zero evidence pointing towards it. I've gone through damn near a decade of Mike Trout rumors with zero evidence and don't want to hear that shit again for Herbert. You proved my point bud

3

u/sirsebbie 13h ago

buddy the team is 0-5 with no win in sight, you will be hearing this until the trade deadline passes….

It's one year lol This franchise would be beyond stupid to trade him. Come back if we have 2 straight losing seasons

1

u/sirsebbie 11h ago

i think that’s where we agree, it would be stupid for the chargers to trade him. however, that decision is not entirely theirs to make or initiate, which was my original point..

Herb should have honestly threaten a trade or retirement the last couple years until a star receiver and guard were signed. Don’t think anyone would fault him for that given he’s the most sacked QB since Luck

2

u/chargers80 12h ago

id hate for this to happen, but if I were him, id want out.

dude was elite from 2020-2023 but the defense cannot stop anybody, so he was labelled as an if man.

We get a coach/GM that doesn't care about OL and receiving talent, his numbers drop and gets hit so much 2024-onward. Two bad playoff losses because they refuse to address the IOL.

Now he is seeing ghosts and in a slump and the media is PILING on him both professionally and personally which is uncalled for. The media doesn't understand that this guy has ZERO margin for error for us to win. These elite QBs can get 3 turnovers and still get the win. If Justin has 3 INTs, we are done for.

If he's over us, I get it. The Chargers are like the toxic partner in this relationship and I hope for his sake, he makes demands to the FO to get their shit together or else.

But what makes this super interesting IMO, there are actual scenarios that do make sense.

Jets can offer 3 1st round picks, Vikings are in win-now mode and might offer more because of their window. Unfortunately the stars are aligning in that sense but I still have hope we can turn it around. Downvote me all you want but we did this to Phil already, I'd hate to do this to another.

3

u/Honest_Extreme_5354 14h ago

He's not as good as I thought he was going to be. But this offense is 75% Hortiz and McDaniel doodoo. You can win a SB with Justin, the pieces around him need to be good. Like what Darnold got last year.

Darnold wasn’t making $50 mil a year, the team had plenty of cap to make it work

1

u/BeerFarts86 . 12h ago

We literally have the 5th most cap space in the nfl. It’s inexcusable

2

u/mamamackmusic Felipe Rios 11h ago

It's year 7 and Herbert hasn't won a playoff game with three opportunities to do so, including participating in one of the most epic playoff collapses in NFL history. We're not winning a SB with Herbert. Hell, we're not even going to win a playoff game with him.

2

u/CSPs-for-income ASAP 14h ago

why is Shefter reporting on this? there is always some underlying rhetoric from the team or elsewhere on reporting like this

6

u/-DoctorEngineer- 14h ago

Only reason I posted it, chargers aren’t my main team but I saw this and came over here to see if there was smoke I was unaware of lol, no one had posted it yet. My guess is if there’s smoke is more from other teams hoping to get the chargers and Herbert thinking, but who knows.

2

u/clutterlustrott ASAP 13h ago

im betting there are other teams that are pushing this narrative to put pressure on the chargers to trade him. But it aint happening. It was never a question.

2

u/Jane_Marie_Lazy i don’t know what we are doing 14h ago

I am sure teams have called Justin’s agent.
There are surely coaches that are laughing at us. We “Chargered” a top 10 QB into Easton Stick in less than 9 months.

1

u/gsavior 14h ago

Because he was asked a question on his podcast and he responded to it.

1

u/jonybolt 14h ago

Because some team out there is putting out feelers for Herbert, and this is Spanoses official response.

Unless Dean is playing hardball.

3

u/Numerounoone 14h ago

I want Herbert to be traded for the sake of himself, I haven't seen a franchise screw a qb more than the Chargers have with him. This is a poverty franchise who is cursed and will always be serial losers.

2

u/Illmosity3 What does Jim do?? 14h ago

Front office should listen to any trade that comes across their desk.

1

u/DraytonFlorence ⚡LT is the GOAT⚡ 14h ago

It was never a serious question. Just an opportunity for the NFL prognostication mill to spam out more articles. It's unrealistic but I wish the pundits would focus more on analyzing players and the game instead of just spamming out hundreds of random trade ideas.

"This pundit made up this trade idea" is just not newsworthy. If someone actually had a solid track record for correctly predicting trades that would be one thing. That doesn't exist tho and it's just people up whatever idea will get them the highest engagement.

1

u/worshipburger 14h ago

I mean if you’re not going to surround him with weapons and keep going with unproven problematic players and have an offensive coordinator he relies on speed skill players what’s the point I guess

1

u/Nerfeveryone bolt 13h ago

Only reason we should ever trade him is if he wants to be traded. And then we would need a haul. At least 2 1sts as a conversation starter, would need 2 more picks or 1 player and 1 pick in addition to it.

1

u/Rocketpocket10 . 12h ago

Although he has played poorly this season, with the offensive core present at this time, getting a new QB is going to make things much worse than they are as it is. The last thing you want is for him to have a bad season but even worse than that is trading him and he returns to form and makes it somewhere in this league. Also we don't care about the cap hit at all. Its not that we didnt have cap space. We decided to walk into this season with nearly 100 million in cap space. That's the real issue.

1

u/CJDistasio Felipe Rios 11h ago

Only way he'd even agree to a trade and waive his no trade clause would be to a beneficial situation for him. Let's say 3 first round picks from the Vikings. That team is 5-0. With Herbert they are contending for Super Bowl. The picks would likely be at the end of the first round every year. Not worth it.

1

u/OsikFTW 10h ago

Hes got massive darnold potential id hes traded, stick him with a good running back and pound the ball with some play action deep shots and hes a top 10 qb

1

u/Vivid_Motor_2341 8h ago

No shit. He’s a great QB on a really shot team

2

u/Throwawayy535 4h ago

Trading Herbert would be the worst decision the chargers ever make. Generational talent that has covered up terrible rosters. That dude is incredible and ppl that don't watch the games don't know

2

u/HaloCasual93 1h ago

No one in their right mind wants to trade Herbert. Trading Herbert is just admitting that we have given up and are going into a 2-3 year rebuild again.

0

u/Cbtexpert521 14h ago

I him to get traded because I know he’s not gonna win anything with this dogshit franchise and if you truly want the best for Justin Herbert you’d want him traded too. We don’t deserve him.

3

u/Mace_Windex11 14h ago

That is what i am saying too. Team might need to go through a lions phase as well where we stop relying on his heroics and have a few absolutely horrible 0-17 4-13 years to build this team from the ground up

2

u/Lean-panther 13h ago

Bro I want the best for my team, not the best for Justin Herbert.

1

u/Destr0yer56 . 14h ago

Only slightly intriguing option would be to the Jets for their 3 first round picks, would be a total reset but with the holes in the roster and how stacked this draft class is projected to be, seems like it'd be worth at least considering. Think he'd cook on the Jets too with a stud in Wilson, promising rookie pass catchers in Sadiq and Cooper, a good rb in Breece, and a great offensive line.

Still think we should keep him but with the way this season has been going, it feels like the roster is multiple drafts and free agencies away from competing.

1

u/JankyJoker 13h ago

Proud to be in the minority, who was the last qb to start the next season after 0-16

1

u/everyonekalmdown 13h ago

I mean no shit. It’s only stupid people that are genuinely saying we should trade him like we would’t spend ages trying to find someone like him at the most important position in the sport.

0

u/innocence_of_silence 13h ago

Alright I’m just a tourist here, but I’m curious how fans feel about his cap hit being the second highest in the league?

I’m a Vikings fan lurking since our media is always talking about trading for Herbert

4

u/HustinJerbert Too much beer 12h ago

He isn't putting up what we paid for him this season, but at the time I don't think many of us disagreed with it. I haven't seen much mention of it the last few weeks, we're holding on hope that it's just a slump due to a variety of reasons and hope he can rebound, also helps that our cap is in a really good spot (cause they didn't hire anyone to help out Herb)

3

u/Upstairs_Bread_ 12h ago

Shit even if he was playing great I doubt we’d have more than 2 wins. Same issues as always we have no running game, no oline, and no receivers.

3

u/HustinJerbert Too much beer 12h ago

Agreed, the blame isn't on any one person or group, just a whole bunch of slop, and then our defense doing it's best to bail us out

1

u/Stennick 11h ago

I guess I have seen elite QB's win with less than Herbert has had. If he's good enough to have an 11 win season then the team is good enough for an elite QB to win in the post season atleast to some degree with. All I keep seeing is "Manning didn't win until X".

I think part of it is just regular fandom, you always value your guys more than other teams. I seen someone in the Bears sub call Caleb "Generational" Trevor has been being called "generational" his entire career. Although Trevor is playing better neither of those guys are generational.

1

u/Upstairs_Bread_ 11h ago

Yeah Herbert isn’t mahomes, or Allen, or Lamar. Other than those guys, what QB could have succeeded on the chargers these past few years?

1

u/GiveMeLiberty8 11h ago

I’m certain that none of them would either

1

u/Upstairs_Bread_ 10h ago

I think they would’ve won a playoff game or two. At least mahomes or Allen wouldve. Maybe not Lamar with his playoff struggles. This isn’t a dig at Herbert those two are literally the best in the world

1

u/Stennick 11h ago

But thats the thing, the team is good enough around him to win 11 games but still somehow bad? Its just weird logic. "We're bad and nobody would be good with us, except for we won 11 games" are we saying Herbert won those 11 games? Surely not.

1

u/Upstairs_Bread_ 10h ago

So Herbert had nothing to do with 11 games last year? And now he’s playing a lot worse than last year and we’re not winning games? If Herbert doesn’t matter, why are we still not winning games?

2

u/Beneficial_Pay_6317 12h ago

his average salary is mid tier. the cap is high because of how it was structured.

1

u/-Mad-Snacks- 11h ago

The Chargers are never trading Herbert unless he forces his way off the team

0

u/Serious_Condition_81 .JHerboFanAccount 12h ago

He has his flaws and currently having his worst year but this team has done him 0 favors offensively. Was only a matter of time

-6

u/SnooLover36 bolt 14h ago

I just hope he doesn’t take time off next offseason and actually performs when it’s time to play.

Trade hampton instead
