Still messing inside

Hi all

I got my boy 5 months ago, he’s a rescue and 15 months old now, I cannot for the life of me get him to stop doing his business in the house, it’s not marking, it’s poops and pees big puddles, hides it well in 2 main places in the house but never infront of me, we have a night time routine where I take him out as much as every 30 min on lead and with out before bed, he will rarely go outside unless I take him out of the yard so he can mark another scent, big rewards and a big party when he eventually does his deed, but it’s very rare, I have blocked off the 2 areas of the house he likes to pee in, which works for the most part, but any access and he will go for it! Problem is they are high traffic areas

He is very comfortable here now, and like Velcro with me, goes for 1 and sometimes 2 beach runs / walks a day with me, have had to put him in my bedroom with me, any free roaming will lead to huge messes to deal with

Have tried pee Mats, won’t use them, each accident is cleaned with an enzyme spray and cleaned well, it’s very frustrating as he’s not responding to anything we try, he just prefers doing it in the house, I am willing try literally anything to get this to stop

She’s breathing really fast and i’m worried like FAST, most likely over 100 breaths per minute please someone tell me what’s happening? She’s eating and drinking perfectly fine and peeing and pooping fine so maybe like a heart murmur? Idk is anyone/did anyone have same issue?

Advice on how to build engagement needed

Tl;dr: I need advice on how to build engagement with my dog who doesn't have much interest in treats when on walks (he often doesn't want to take them, or takes them just to get it over with and then let's it fall from his mouth)

This is Nox, a year and a half old Border Collie (allegedly). He's a great dog that learns quickly and is super friendly to everyone, but he doesn't really want to engage with me when outside on a walk. If there's a ball in question, or a stick, he's kinda engaged, but it's more like he's watching when/if I'll throw it, rather than keeping his focus on me.

If I have it in my hand, he'll kinda listen to commands, but he's hyper about it and not really thinking that much, just doing something as quickly as he can so i throw the item for him. Lately, i was able to teach him wait when i throw items, where i'll tell him to wait, throw it, and he'll check in for me to gove him the command that he can go get it. We're still on light throws this way, cause not sure if he could contain himself if I threw it full force, but it's a beginning.

The thing I want to build is his engagement with me during the walks so I can have him off leash at some point, and be confident that he'll behave (right now, i sometimes have him off leash in the areas where I have a great view of the surroundings and know he'll listen to me before anyone could approch close enough for him to engage with them). He doesn't really do check ins, and even when he does, it's hard to reward him and encourage him to do it more as he isn't that interested in food/treats (and I tried all kinds of treats). So, I'm not sure how to build more engagement with him and how to reward him for stuff I want to encourage, and would really appreciate any advice you have, especially if you were in similar situations. He also has some reactivity issues, and I think that without engagement, it's just harder for me to correct those things.

Hello! This is my one year old (as of couple weeks ago) male border collie “Sheriff”, I know people say the one year old mark is one of the hardest points but my god this dog has become the son of satan. Lickmats? Treats? Toys? Anything we spent money on to satiate his mental enrichment needs he no longer cares about he paces the house like he’s waiting for a bomb to go off. On walks all he cares about is where did that last dog pee. In the park Recall out the window we’ve always had him on a long line due to there being certain other dog owners in the park who have no recall on their dogs and let them wander 90 feet away running at any dog it sees. On lead walks frantic sniff spot to sniff spot, mindlessly staring at any noise. The amount of holes in the garden are piling up and god forbid you try and guide him away he’ll act like you’ve just put a rocket up his arse and he’s doing laps of the garden taking any chance to dig that spot again before you come near and if that back doors closed it’s best to get out some ear mufflers because there’ll be non stop barking even when it doesn’t get opened and never has when he demand barks.

Looking for the best advice for navigating this stage that anyone has and war stories from people with similar experiences some of the things we can track down to lack of mental enrichment but he just completely ignores anything we put in front of him and it feels like we’ve tried everything!

Also if anyone had the same with their collie going from loving mental enrichment in the house and gulping down any treat you put near them on walks to suddenly acting like your trying to poison them the second you take one out the treat pouch or put one down in front of him, it seems like currently there’s nothing we can do to satiate his mental needs.

Quiet moments with a Border Collie...

Injury 🩹 (may contain graphic photos) My border collie has luxating patella

12 days ago I took my 3 year old border collie to the vet and they gave us pain med anti inflammatory and said it was a minor shift on one side of his leg. They said to come back on the 29th for a check or referral to a specialis. My dog isn’t getting much better aside from him thinking he’s fine because of the pain meds and he still somehow injures himself even with resting. it helps him with pain but he still walks funny and is not better. ik it’s been 12 days but i’m worried he’ll never get better because it’s been luxating since august and this is the second vet we have been to. the vet is closed today so I can’t call them until tomorrow. does anyone else’s?border collie have luxating patella and how did the vet treat it?

engament tips pls

i have a 9 month border collie, who is really not engaged with me the way i wanted her to be. since she was a pup i made it a goal to achieve this with her as it was something i really valued in my passed collie. but this dog has been so picky with food since the day we got her and refused hand feeding. i always rewarded her heavily for checking in with me and being near me but now she will not take even high value rewards on hikes and would much rather be at the end of her long line not looking at me what so ever. i know i need to make myself the most valuable thing to her but sometimes she won’t even take her toy reward lately.

long story short i need your best tips for engagement training.

Training Tips for settling - 8 months

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hi all, our boy is 8 months old and is crate trained... But he won't settle anywhere else unless he is beyond tired and even then this has only been a handful of times.

Has anyone got any tips or advice for teaching him to settle outside of the crate?

We have tried to use food but he then approaches it like train and is locked on getting his next bit of kibble. Tethering is tricky as our living room isn't massive so he can still reach most places.

Appreciate we are fully in the beginning of adolescence (and the biting regression that comes with that! 🥲) so not expecting miracles but open to any advice!
