I don’t even take them seriously, on my side of things I just see if they actually know what they’re talking about. With creatives you’d have some throwing out years of experience like a badge of honor when age barely matters with art and it’s how you learn it. So this stranger just basically proudly shown they legit suck at the craft while trying to be the most knowledgeable in the room
There was a period in time online where a lot of people on Reddit were cruising through art subs with the idea of being a critic and I had to deal with waves of people and downvotes having my work criticized but me asking for elaboration because there’s no proper explanation is me arguing. If larping was a term back then, they’d be the larping art critics. The art subs saw a large decrease in traffic after it finally stopped, just for Reddit to say AI art is democratizing art everywhere (until it became cool to hate on AI)
The culture of this site is why I laughed when I saw the news AI datacenters are going to rely on Reddit as a source of info
Unfortunately other countries aren’t pushing their own social media platforms while ours would screech out “national security threat!” If they did so most of social media are American citizens controlling the topic even if the ones having it are literally on the other side of the world and just speak English.
Also kinda ties into our ways of handling conflict after Vietnam disrupted so much behind the scenes, people are literally forced to think of some new external issue while letting internal ones pile up. We forget already existing issues for whatever pops up, even if our immediate involvement would make it worse
Eh, closest thing I already had structured for just a recaption. My passion area is art, memes can get the recycling treatment if I’m making my own base videos
No, I take video clips myself from a source and edit them manually since I don’t have meme software?
Why is everyone immediately a fucking bot with you people? It’s why I can’t even do the normal social media thing of having my personal account be set to private, that’d make me a bot too
Ok. Keep doing that over and over and I’m sure you’ll find your answer. I’m literally not going to think for you, or link and detail everything about a fucking MEME
Some of you act like this is on the level of high quality content when it’s just literal shit posts
Yeah because saying I’m not lying and just made basic sound edits with a meme is gaslighting, along with calling out that you’re being a moron.
The lengths someone to go to just not admit they just don’t like something or who made it. What do I have to fucking hide or prove to you lmao? https://giphy.com/gifs/gSJfzjAfRUCly
The real problem is hearing the news discuss a subject you're knowledgeable on and hearing how much they get wrong. Which makes you assume they getting stuff on other topics as well
So much immediate internal screaming when someone doesn’t even use the time between a comment to look something up and pretend to know at least, but then you also immediately become a big ol meany calling it out.
Even worse when people online think they can get to you when you’re a creative, like… irl I have to deal with professionals that tear into my work, on art accounts I have to deal with the toxic part of the internet, the crumb of information from my eventual life on an account is barely going to have you match a middle school Disney movie in social ammo. Last time I showed how I insult and berate though, I got banned across several accounts I wasn’t even logged on. Showing so much shit online is performative and they just “think” that they’re the knowledgeable on even being miserable lmao
I swear anytime I talk to another artist and they aren’t the chill type that’s just doing it for the love of the game like me they’re so god damn insufferable. IRL I’m basically Art One Punch Man, which isn’t a brag, it comes with all the same kinds of problems, comes with having to get your grades and degree to match your skill level, because apparently spending the pandemic till now studying from master’s resources every single day before I started college was like… my basic training that somehow gave me a ton of capabilities.
People get weird if you talk about art that isn’t Eurocentric if it isn’t anime (if they like it), they get insecure for some reason when even though there’s skills or experience they have and you want that they make themselves upset comparing themselves to one part of you, they get off social media and are out of their comfort zone seeing that all art isn’t formulaic content or something.
And worst of all, I can’t barely have basic conversations in school, Jesus fucking Christ if you’re got yourself that upset you feel there’s a gap in skills just ask for advice. Even the AI art shit is blown out of proportion here, everyone else has the same mentality that nothing is going to take away their techniques and love to create. So fucking what an OC on a blank white background became easy to replicate, maybe they should be in something?
I do, all the time. I’m sorry if it offends Reddit or makes them think of me less, when apart of being an artist is also not caring, but when you’re getting a degree for art it’s literally fucking everywhere to socialize and network, especially when you’re in a major US city like Chicago. It’s the difference between a degree just being ten to hundreds of thousands in debt and it at least giving you connections to round out a career.
I don’t fucking like any of this, I hate Reddit acting like it’s a bragging right to be skilled, I literally feel like I’m burning future money staying in college but need a degree to teach later. So when I see people doing all of the things masters and art professors I even talked to suggested not to do… why would you not feel concerned?
I’m not angy, I literally don’t see a healthy future creative market in the US that’d result in more jobs and better pay. Even the average US person has a hard time applying the existence of art to almost everything they own and see, it’s either something silly to pursue but is luck if you make it, or a product of a corporation.
Like you, who will leave this comment complaining about quality getting bad with no alternatives, but here I’m taking things too seriously and need humility… when I want to be a professor myself so I have to look for these things? Do we just assume and not ask for context now?
I feel like the claim that you are "Art one punch man" is a pretty heavy claim to make. Feels like that implies no one else has a chance to match against your art skill.
Also, bold choice of anime to reference to illustrate your art skill when that anime's animation quality has gone down the shitter lol. I know you weren't referencing that specific part of the show but it is funny
Plenty of people better than me and that matches me, they’re not in my immediate reach and are, of course, scattered around the world. It’s not a bold choice to say that after a point you build up a high skill of learning new skills if you constantly push yourself out of your comfort zone for years. It’s not only the core issue the character faced, but it’s a clinically and statistically backed thing with literally any learning discussion. Environment matters.
And are you trying to turn this conversation into you mouth breathing about something and being a modern Patrick? It’s an anime adapted from an existing manga, the artist of said manga being one of the best in the industry. In fact, most anime are adaptations of source materials, if someone is talking about the character, and you’re criticizing that, you also look at the source material.
So yeah, I can’t think of a better comparison. Perfectly fine and at the top on my own or with a small team, things immediately going to shit when a larger amount of other people and those that care little outside of their egos gets involved.
Because my ego will tell me to just learn from this while yours is going “anime bad lol”
“art one punch man” i think we might need to take a step back, friend 😭
EDIT: ok, i promise im not trying to be mean. i looked through your profile and i really like your art! however, i think probably a large part of the reason for your not-so-great experiences comes from your ego being way higher than your skill level. i’m not gonna tell you your art looks bad, because it doesn’t. i really think it looks great! however, it’s only just above what the average high school art student could create. this isn’t meant to discourage you in any way, and id love to see what the next few years of years holds for you in terms of growing your artistic capabilities. right now, you are incredibly far away from the “expert in your field” you claimed you were, and even assuming calling yourself “art one punch man” was hyperbolic, it’s still a silly thing to say. as long as you maintain your inflated ego, hate people that you think are worse than or equal to you and have different styles, your art is never going to improve.
I get you’re trying to be helpful and trying to talk down a perceived ego… but I literally despise Reddit after it banned my art account so I don’t even post my actual completed or latest stuff on here, what you’ve seen are my quick sketches, some done on a moving train. It’s not going to look good
It’s why I once again gotta say, I wish people would HAVE a conversation before going off on their own about something, and me being blunt and honest about having that kind of mindset makes me egotistical to Americans, but just assertive to anyone else.
And being in Chicago, there’s enough foreigners to have a wider picture on that with. From my own experiences, Hispanic cultures/people are way more collaborative with art and actually have conversations with me, specifically left leaning latinas.
But I’m not even going to link my art socials on this account, it’s 90% personal posts and I don’t have time to deal with the toxic profile investigators, it’s why I was about to private my account soon anyways
that totally makes sense, cool to see you’ve got finished stuff/things in the works that i’m sure look great. you have a solid understanding of color and a good grasp of stylized anatomy. again, however, even your sketches and (i assume somewhat finished) animations betray that you are not the “expert” you believe yourself to be. as long as you continue to act like this, more and more people will distance themselves from you, because it does really come off very strongly. the greatest artists are the first to say that there are so many things they need to improve and that so many other people are better than them.
it does seem like you have a weird-hate boner for americans (justified in an innumerable number of cases, but i don’t think in this one) and an obsession with ethnicity and race in how you connect to people, which is odd. i can’t speak for the rest of this comment section, but im not american, so i would take the fact that you have received essentially universal pushback from everyone, not just americans, as a sign that you clearly have some introspection to do. i also find it telling that i was the only comment that even mildly stroked your ego and the reply you gave was the only one of yours that wasn’t filled to the seams with rage. i would consider seeking some form of therapy.
I’m glad you think so and picked this as a space for a fruitful conversation on literally… a few of hundreds of works I don’t post
So you feel that it betrays what I say, GREAT! I thought so too all the way back then so those are still… just quick 5-10 minute sketches and experimentation I did not complete. Nor is there any work on this account I spent longer than a few minutes on… on purpose. Those are artworks I’m fine burning. Nor do I show any of these “feelings” irl around people, I don’t understand why there isn’t a conversation before an assumption, even old vent posts can have things that changed, but you can just ask how i socialize?
And yes, I do have a weird hate boner for the demographic that enslaved my people, tortured them, and still persists with systematic oppression to ensure we can’t stand on our own. A lot of fucking people in the world, don’t like Americans and have had some terrible experience. I’m African-American, I didn’t create a “White” label so externally oppressive it inspired Nazis and Hitler. I’m fucking allowed to be upset at the country I’m not only a full citizen to, but also have literally no other country to go to since… it isn’t just “Africa” and “African” when it came to slavery.
And lastly, I’m glad you think I need therapy. I thought so years ago! And it’s why I’m fine with being passive aggressive to a literal internet stranger whom I never met nor will, because it isn’t healthy for me to apply the same irl respect and courtesy to a space that lacks it. So I always suggest to those throwing “therapy” at me, to go to it your fucking self.
Ok, I’ll continue to take accountability for my actions while someone literally tells me to my face it’s “because of the pandemic I really struggle with talking to people”
Not even being rude about that, I’m just not living in a bubble. You can call me insufferable, say I have an ego, but I also am more in-tune with the average person compared to most on this site that engages, it’s telling someone that has to bounce from dealing with average US racist experiences and are forced to be patient or someone could call security/the fucking police at the first sign of aggression that they’re the issue, and the country just doesn’t have growing issues from persisting issues being ignored like mental health
Oh wait! We do acknowledge those issues, but on Reddit we choose to forget in the moment and just not accept we don’t like or have absolutely no chemistry with someone. I can tell you from a place of kindness, that I’m socially incompatible with most people on Reddit.
I go to my therapist and mental health professionals and not a comment over who or what I am lol
If you run into an asshole, then you’ve run into an asshole. If you find that you run into assholes all day, then that probably means that you’re the asshole.
Yeah no. Why talk about therapy just to double down to try to become an arm chair therapist? This is what I’m talking about with ego being more important in discussions in American spaces
I’m told to have great conflict and problem management skills along with understanding people, the issues I face that brings me to therapy and professionals are internal structures, my mind tends to blank and to something else when alone or in a highly stressful situation.
The problem with pursuing mental care is if hardly anyone else is, it’s going to result in issues. People online talk about it like having it themselves would solve all their issues, but even having someone who’s job it is to gently tell you how you’re in the wrong, doesn’t chance the society you live in. It’s a bandaid solution.
It’s why I roll my eyes at people using “get mental help” as a passive aggressive insult because talking to professionals, the reason I shouldn’t waste mental energy is because those very people tend to show signs of not respecting mental health themselves and it’s unhealthy for my system to allow myself to get worked up.
There’s also the fact that actually talking about what you experience in therapy in most spaces outside of medical communities with like minded people, will just have people roll their eyes and tell YOU they feel it isn’t enough to THEIR standards which… isn’t how it works?
