True, sad what indoctrination does to you :(

You okay?

I think they don’t know what “indoctrination” means. Probably no malice, just ignorance. (And ignorance can be changed by choice.)

You have no clue what indoctrination even means. I think coherent thought is lost on you.

Here’s a nice article about her.

My mom could still hum the Beatles and Paul Simon long after she lost her speech. I can hear her voice if I focus hard.

She still hums for you when you look for her

Truly, progressing to this stage and condition is something I've written my directives to avoid. I hope she had the best end of life possible and her days had much light and love.

What directive can help you avoid dementia?

Yeah, unless you live in a country with assisted suicide you dont have much of a choice.

Exercise regularly, socialise, and don't drink alcohol. These are statistically shown to reduce risk of Alzheimer's.

I hate all those things. Wanna help me design my gravestone? (As long as we minimize contact/conversation with each other)

She's still strangely beautiful and graceful, Alzheimer's is a bitch though

u/MarstonsGhost 2h ago
It is.
But for just a few minutes, she was able to go back to that place where she was always meant to be.

Time is cruel because it takes from us many things. Along with it often comes Dementia and Alzheimer's. It is beautiful that she can still remember dancing and the music, but sad knowing how much else has been taken from her.

Reddit has rotted your brain if you read a general comment about the horror of time passing and can only think to respond in subreddit links rather than with humanity.

Never really paid much attention to ballet before. However this - I guess - is the art that people spend so much money to see. I get it now, and it's wonderful!

We break our bodies for ballet. The training shapes our bodies and minds in a regimented way that rivals any sports or art out there. This woman has been through this.
A skilled corps (an ensemble of dancers) can dance in such unison that variations can be measured in nanometers. Because ballet is psychotic about precision. It’s normal to obsess for hours, sometimes through tears, about the proper angle for your ankle or the slightest tilt of your head. Sometimes you’re being yelled at the whole time. Over and over you do these movements. It’s no surprise this training is ingrained in this beautiful woman.
It’s even more intense with something like Swan Lake. You’re being judged by ballet audiences who know the famous versions choreographed by the greats, and that’s what they expect, and perfection is the only way. Which means practice. So you hear this music on repeat for several hours a day while you learn to drop in and progress past counting steps. The music helps you stop counting steps and dance.
This woman has been there. She’s dancing because it’s beyond memorizing anything or remembering anything consciously. It’s in the music. She’s feeding off something that this awful disease can’t touch.

And how stunningly fluid she still is. Wow. Art, especially music really does hit the soul.

They made a movie about this years ago. I recommend it often. You can watch it on YouTube for free.

I’ve seen this so many times now. What I’d like to see and haven’t found yet is the original 1967 dance Marta performed.

So beautiful! Music can create such a powerful memory. Interesting that it truly seems to raise her spirits too, the way she lifted her head.
Beautiful.

Can anyone translate the conversation at the end?

She says “it makes me emotional.” He says, “that’s normal my dear, how could listening to this not make you emotional? and you move us [makes them feel something], dancing so well.” She remarks “you have to get up on your toes properly… this is the chorus… this is the chorus… it’s more legs” (than footwork, I think she means) “it’s 50” (the counts) he says “oh my goodness”

Music has amazing powers over people with Dementia, Ive seen people with dementia not remember where they live, but can sing all the words to a song.

That would be so metal, dying while reacting.

Not sure why yr being downvoted voted. We all get old and die. Nice to choose how. I’m pretty old. My older sister went out on New Year’s Eve shortly after midnight. She had an amazing view of fireworks at night from her house. I like to think she thought it was for her.
