That’s lovely is that it wanted a hug more than food

Shows how deep their emotional memory goes, he genuinely never forgot who had his back

I thought a "smile" is a sign of aggression in chimps?

There are several reasons a chimp might show their teeth.
Aggression is one, for obvious reasons. It’s teeth.
But they also do it to signal stress, or show appeasement / lower status, and sometimes even just friendly or benign intent.
There’s some difference between each of these grins.
Wild chimps often interpret human smiles as the “aggression” or “stress” expression, which is why they can become aggressive in response.
They might also see it as the “submission / fear” expression, which can cause them to take advantage of your admission of lower status and bed in the hierarchy by attacking.
Worth mentioning that chimps can learn what human smiles actually mean, but only after lots of time spent around us in captivity.

Remember, no source is more reliable than a random person on the internet.

Thank you for heads up, random person.

I had the same thought. I wonder if being raised around humans taught Citron to smile. It's not quite right. As though he learned the general idea, but not quite how to do it. No agression here, though.

Was wondering about the same thing. This isn't the first video I've seen like this. I wonder if they can learn the behaviour or if they have different forms of showing teeth?

Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.

You know what? I'm sorry. I read that in a smart-ass tone. You probably didn't even mean it that way. I'm just exhausted with all the shitty unfriendly comments on reddit lately.

Lately? Always has been twin.

The thing is, it wasn't always like this. A decade ago, before everyone was trying to monetize the platform, the vibe of reddit was way more community based. Yeah we were all talking shit. But in most subs, ppl were talking shit together. Not just disagreeing with any and everything and screaming that everyone else was stupid and wrong. Shit is like a fucked up day care in here half the time these days. Anyway that's my piece. Thanks for the session, doc.

The status of the world is contributing to this. Putin and Trump and their allies have turned a lot of things to shit and are profiting off of it massively. It pisses people off. I, myself am hoping for a turn-around this November and a much bigger one no later than November, 2028.

You’re not wrong that Reddit got a lot worse over the years.
Here’s an insight. When I’m really stressed out and feel beaten down from life in general, I find myself feeling kind of angry, bitter, and cynical. Like it sort of turns me into a hater. Sometimes I’m that guy that says stuff online that’s kind of mean and then double down it which leads to both parties getting triggered and arguing.
That helped me gain a bit more clarity on the toxicity of the internet and how to approach certain kinds of people. Honestly, the best approach is not to engage with anyone the moment you feel that negativity(ignore.) And of course, we should always check ourselves too.
You’re quite welcome. Same time next week.

I like how he changed his mind about the bananas. "Yeah I'mma go on ahead and grab those as well, Steve. Yeah haha! You know it, man! I don't if I was trying to fool you or myself!"

You can not tell me animals aren't sentient. That they don't feel and are aware.

u/Individual_Stan99 17h ago
Are there even people left that would make such a stupid claim?
15
u/Medusaink3 16h ago
Yep. There sure are! People don't want to believe these things because it could possibly make them feel guilty for the way animals are treated.
We are discovering that animals have culture, empathy and social awareness. Check out "Secrets of the Whales" series on Disney. Really opened my eyes to a whole new world of sentience in the animal kingdom.
