u/CampingWise Aug 07 '26
You can return children to Costco? How much do you get for them?
227
u/Novel_Ask_4226 Aug 07 '26
Price depends on if child is conscious or not
126
u/Darwin-Award-Winner Aug 07 '26
The child was unconscious when I got it.
67
u/Cultural-Company282 Aug 07 '26
Well that's just common sense. You get way more for an unconscious child, because they're not so fucking noisy.

There’s a story of a mother and father leaving their son at Costgo. I think the kids name was Tunji. The parents eventually came back for him only to ditch him again.
18
u/ihvnnm Aug 07 '26
Teaching the kid to avoid smartphones (as it may involve falling laptops) at an early age, smart.

There is a lot of distance between the table with the laptop and the child.
11
u/TwoBionicknees Aug 07 '26
and a rope attached to said laptop attached to a pulley and the kid holding it which would turn it into a pendulum.
We can prove it easily, get that laptop and a baby, then hit the baby with the laptop and see if the noise matches.

I know this is a joke but even Costco doesn’t do returns for Apple products. I only found that out because when I got my fiancée a Apple Watch they offered whatever apples protection plan was and I laughed and said nah I’ll just bring it here and the lady got super serious and said they don’t take them back
3
u/TemporaryDeparture44 Aug 08 '26
Weird, when I bought my MacBook they just gave me the same ‘you have 90 days to return electronics’ speech they usually give for electronics.
3
u/Hanz_VonManstrom Aug 08 '26
Are you in the US? Because I’ve definitely returned Apple products at Costco. Unless you’re talking about if it breaks outside of Costco’s return window, then you would definitely have to take it to Apple for that.

Ok, I've seen a LOT of Rube Goldberg machines in my time, but this one was by FAR the most creative one ever.
Genuine laugh out loud moments.

u/superblockio Aug 07 '26
Yeah this is definitely the most clever one of these I've seen. Quite possibly the most impressive in general. I'd say it's my favorite for sure

I was merely around (& sometimes watching over) the grade school-aged daughter of a neighbor some years ago--& she was quite a handful! Even if he had help from his wife in corraling their little one, this was quite a feat! (To borrow from "Clash of the Titans" "Let loose the Krakon!", I can imagine him saying, when the camera was off him, "Let loose the baby!")

I'm still a grump. It bothers me that there is definitely a hidden cut when the phone slides down and plugs into the charger. Plugging in a phone charger is a precise thing and it requires quite a bit of force. The phone freely slides down the wood while vibrating and just happens to perfectly lock into the charger strong enough to be yanked around hanging from the charger.
Even ignoring the fact it miraculously lines up, If the charger is strong enough to hold the phone it would have been too hard to plug in for gravity to do so. If it is able to be plugged in by just the force of sliding down that ramp, there is no way in hell it would hold up to being bungee jumped around. That camera whip downward is there to hide the edit.
3
u/DredUnicorn Aug 07 '26
It could be a second phone pre plugged in sitting hidden behind the wheel. It didn't have to be a camera cut, grumpy guts.
7
u/Reasonable-Tune-6276 Aug 07 '26
Yeah, there were a couple of well-placed edits - especially the baby and phone, but it was still amazing to me. It was directed and choreographed very well.

u/Voidocal Aug 07 '26
My first guess would be that some sort of magnet is being used.
Looking at the video more closely, you can see that it's not just the cable plugged in, there's some sort of hook or attachment. You can see it more clearly when the baby is playing with it. I think the phone isn't actually sliding into the plug, instead it's sliding into some sort of casing (idk what to call it, like a car bumper) that attaches to the entire bottom of the phone. You can see that the bottom of the phone looks more metallic after it fell. This attachment is hidden behind the wheel.

The chandelier starts in front of him and the attached point it hangs from is either in line with him or behind him, so it swings towards the wall on both passes so it end up in the corner behind him.
Still way too confident about the swinging and hooking.

Poor laptop
35
u/Euture Aug 07 '26
Plot twist: the machine tossed out a thick dog bed to cushion the falling laptop, preventing any damage, and produced the loud bang by other means.
38
u/Zaximeows Aug 07 '26
That banging sound was actually the child being catapulted into the wall. You see they were sitting on a counterweight that the falling laptop triggered. No laptops were harmed.
