Serious Discussion/Question How would a government realistically respond to a chemical attack of this nature?

Post image

Seeing that Gotham is in New Jersey and in the game is pretty much an island, wouldn’t the winds be spreading the cloudburst throughout the state?

OP has put a serious flair on this post and has not stated (humour welcome) meaning that:

only serious discussion about the Arkhamverse is allowed on this post and no humour or shitpost comments/references including "Man", "Jonkler" "who is batman?" and "is he stupid?" are allowed on this post at all.

ignoring this warning will lead to bans without warnings as this is your warning.

We know this may seem harsh but there are new arkham fans who might get confused by these comments or others who just want to talk about the Arkham games without seeing them, but we must be respectful of OP's wishes so please take any insanity comments onto another post.

OP, if you don't mind shitpost or humour comments on your post then please delete this post and repost it using the same flair but add (humour welcome) to your title.

If this post is a shitpost, please delete and repost it with the appropriate flair to avoid getting in trouble.

That’s not to mention Scarecrow’s message threatening future attacks. I like Arkham Knight’s Scarecrow feels very adept at inspiring fear and panic in the general public even without the toxin. All it tools was a few ounces of toxin and speech to send the entire city running.

Scarecrow threatened to blow up the entire city if there was any outside interference though, right? Wouldn't that prevent the military from acting hastily?

66

u/stac7 Nov 21 '25

Yeah pretty much

He is a psychotic super villain so I don't think the military wants to risk that.

I don't remember the military trying to do anything at any part of the game but I absolutely remember the Gotham Police trying to do something around Ace Chemicals

The game takes place over a single night. There is no way they are gathering the troops and moving in that quick. The best they would do in that time is control points of access to the city while gathering for a full scale response.

17

u/fusion_reactor3 Nov 22 '25

This. I’m sure if it was spread across a week or something, the military would show up to play, but it takes a lot longer than a single night to get any sort of plan set up, let alone the troops to actually execute the plan

4

u/stac7 Nov 21 '25

Good point, but that also asks another question tho

If they know Scarecrow is gonna do it whether or not they intervene, is it really worth sending in men? They might die and accomplish nothing so they would most likely just hope and rely on Batman, and if it takes too long or if Batman actually dies, they might send men

12

u/Extra_Wave Nov 22 '25

I remember one comment (either youtube or reddit) explaining how basically all the shit the gotham villains did that day would be enough to flag them as traitors and give them the capital punishment

The whole point of the bomb sidequest was to prevent the government or anyone else (like the Justice League) from just coming in and steamrolling the militia.

You see the government’s corruption is the reason why joker became joker. And Joker created this mess. Do you think the government gives a shit? They are the real villain

55

u/necronformist Nov 21 '25

Johnny would say the real villain is Waynetech

14

u/Brekldios Nov 21 '25

yeah but the people of gotham still pay taxes, you think the government doesn't love taxes?

2

u/LazerIguana445 Nov 22 '25

Perhaps the real villain is society

33

u/Prit717 Nov 21 '25

I still don't get why they couldn't intervene in No Man's Land

32

u/Paxxlee Nov 21 '25

Basically it was because Gotham was so bad before the earthquake that the government thought it would be better to just nuke it from orbit. But, because that would be too negative, a quarantine was easier to sell.

Edit: If you mean JL, they did help somewhat. Superman learned a lesson. Batman told them to fuck off.

8

u/Prit717 Nov 21 '25

I suppose I meant both, but that is helpful thank you!

6

u/Paxxlee Nov 21 '25

Great!

Also, I believe there was some kind of plot by Lex Luthor, that he was trying to buy property in Gotham while lobbying the government in an effort to stop them helping Gotham.

8

u/notShek Nov 21 '25

who’s batman, is that some silly parody of man?

9

u/M-V-D_256 Nov 21 '25

Heavy Lobbying from scratch convinced senators that Gotham is a money sink.

The plan was to leave only the super villains inside, let them sort themselves out, and like 5 years later renovate and let the citizens go back (for higher rent I assume)

The only reason they didn't flatten Gotham was because people were still in there

12

u/PsychoDrifter777 There's no such thing as a "batman" Nov 21 '25

I’d crosspost this to r/Arkham if I were you, it’s basically what this place is supposed to be. But yeah the government would realistically be VERY up n’ arms about something like this.

5

u/quarante-et-onze Nov 21 '25

They would be like "cough cough im dying of a chemical attack cough cough uhhg"

5

u/Keito_Kest Nov 21 '25

Considering that air filters are useless and that the evil ahh cloud of fear doesnt dissipate I dont think they can do much about it inmediately except just pull a No Mans Land and evaquate Gotham. It should be noted that the cloud is far heavier than air, as it stays close to the ground, so I dont think the wind would carry it far, but yeah all of gotham may be lost.

After that who knows, considering this is the DC maybe ARGUS develops a plan to deal with it, or they just find a way.

5

u/TheLORDthyGOD420 Nov 21 '25

The current US government would lie about it, claim it never happened, then blame immigrants and the "radical left". Then arrest Jimmy Kimmel.

9

4

u/Substantial_Slip4667 Nov 21 '25

They would get everybody in the city to do one large coordinated booty cheek clapping and hopefully blow it up into space.

4

u/Commercial-Ship-8784 Killer C#ck Nov 21 '25

They would probably blame it on someone they don't like, catch them, and tell the public, "Look, we caught them, we'll punish them." I don't think they would solve the problem.

1

u/Fidget02 Nov 21 '25

The US federal government would have tracked and shot down the mass of Militia helicopters beelining it to Gotham before they passed Florida. There must’ve been hundreds of carrier vehicles brining in men and drones and equipment from SOUTH AMERICA and they’re just able to sneak up on Gotham and set up shop? The logistics overhead to accomplish that is insane, especially over a single night and over US land/waters.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '25

1

u/Clerkinator Nov 21 '25

They would blame immigrants or something stupid before actually helping out the people affected

1

“Gotham, this is your final warning” is as far as it would go before every single form of law enforcement feasible in the city, state, maybe even the entire country found scarecrow’s ass and either arrested him or straight up killed him considering his threat was literally chemical domestic terrorism. As for the militia, they wouldn’t even be able to get their forces there in the first place, never mind all those tanks lmao

Man can I just say I love the creative decision of Joker living on rent free in Batman's head. It's an absolute pleasure watching them interact as Batman slowly loses it and not only is it a big deal as far as subplots go, but it also makes up for his death at the end of City, in a way that allegorically explicits the Joker's hold over Gotham and Bruce even from the afterlife and to top even that, it also ties in with the big ending perfectly. Such an impeccable masterpiece of a video game.

As others said its unlikely things would even get to this point. The moment something like the diner scene happens, I'm pretty sure the Military or FBI would be deployed. The moment a completely normal cop gets "brainwashed" into murdering innocent civilians in broad daylight, EVERYONE is getting involvedz Scarecrow would be arrested or just flat out executed for crimes against humanity.

Assuming things do go as planned and Scarecrow has access to a real world version of the Arkham Knight and his militia, well shit. Since Batman wouldnt exist, I'd presume the government would immediately call for the Justice League to stop this. If not that then whatever other individual hero thats available (flash, superman, etc). If no heroes are available the govt would likely drone strike the fuck out of the AK and whatever zone Scarecrows been spotted in.

Not sure how much theyd care about casualties here since theres no civilians in the city afaik, just criminals. Im pretty sure the government would be absolutely fine with missile strikes and large scale destruction if it meant the removal of a literal city wide threat. The criminals that are around in the city are rapists, murdererous psychos, literal terrorists, etc. All of them are pretty deserving of death, and if you remove Batman or any of the batfam theres no one to worry about besides the police

Best case scenario the govt evacuates any and all remaining police officers, missiles and drone strikes on any potential threats in the city. If that doesnt work and the toxin spreads or scarecrow/cronies try to leave, full scale quarantine of the city and potential nukes sent to fully eliminate the threat. I doubt we'd even need anything close to nukes here since I doubt AK or anyone in the arkhamverse can survive the missile strikes our military is sending. Hell depending on how serious the govt is they could probably end the threat in an hour, making Batman look useless. Once again depends how quickly they are willing to escalate it. Once again I do believe that if the govt realizes how awful the remaining people are inside, they will be fine with just blowing them up. Especially Scarecrow, who attempts to willingy kill 9-10 million people in Gotham.

TLDR: Scarecrow and anyone left alive in Gotham city are literal monsters and clearly deserving of death to the US govt. Remaining police force gets airlifted, before large scale missile strikes and bombs are dropped to eliminate the AK and scarecrow threat. Full quarantine is put in place with all exits blocked off fully, surrounded. If threat isnt removed, nukes get sent, or a team of highly specialized operatives are ordered to eliminate scarecrow.

Govt may also use other tactics like convincing the villains to turn on each other, or offering one of the villians something to kill Scarecrow. Whatever will end the threat with the least amount of civilians and military personnel at risk
