Always found action shows lacking depth. I think they sacrifice a potentially good story only to drive the plot along. Found exploding cars too boring, the violence too much, and the dualism of Good vs. Bad too flat.
Just finished Banshee, and it was nothing like that. What an enjoyable ride that was.
I really don't fully understand how they've managed to do such a series? It was so clever with some of the editing, the choreography of the fights was stunning, the soundtrack was always on point, and the character of Job contributed so, so much. It was an action show that doesn't feel like an action show.
Even when an obvious plot hole or something unexplained happens, it doesn't take away from the good time. Amazing.

Only thing I didn’t like about show. Never seen a show where so many people are experts at fighting. And the damage these people a take is incredible. Hood alone took enough beating that would have killed 20 men. Both Hood and Kai at different time sat in a chair with their hands tied behind their back and had huge men swinging for dear on their and just taking it like champs

I feel like Banshee started going downhill when they killed off Alex Longshadow so quickly. I would have loved to see more of him. I was never particularly fond of Chayton, and I wasn't really a fan of most of the new characters introduced in Season 3 either. What I really enjoyed about the first two seasons was how strategically written the characters were, especially someone like Kai Proctor, who was a genuinely well written antagonist. I was hoping Alex would develop in a similar way and become a more strategic and intelligent player.
I don't understand why so many people love Season 3. To me, it was where the show started to fall apart. So many storylines were never properly resolved. Whether it was Kai constantly escaping and somehow never getting arrested, or Gordon Hopewell's family becoming increasingly irrelevant after Season 2, there were too many plotlines that never really reached a satisfying conclusion. By that point, I had completely lost interest in Gordon's family because they barely seemed to have anything meaningful to do.
I also feel like the show wasted too many of its characters just for the sake of creating drama. Kelly's death felt unnecessary. The show took a wrong turn after Season 2, and from that point on, Banshee just wasn't as enjoyable for me anymore.

Rewatching S3 now and feeling it is all over the place.
I’m still traumatized by how evil this season’s main antagonist is and how he kills even those who help him. Still spinning from how he cruelly killed probably the best female character in the show. She was just all good.
Did love more story about Brock. It really fleshed him out.
Rebecca also seemed to take a villain turn this season. It’s like she feels like she’s too far gone to go back home even though her parents asked her to go back.
This rewatch really helped me see how damaging rejection from one’s community can be.
In so many ways, this season’s antagonist is really a psychopath. From his speech before he died. Cathartic when Hood took him out with a shotgun. Rather graphic too!

So this might be super obvious to everyone else but I only now paid attention to it. S2E2 when he goes to rescue Rebecca from the casino they do a slow motion shot of him getting cracked across the knuckles with a baton in the fight on the stairwell. That whole fight sequence he might already be in the brace IRL which is why he’s wearing his jacket with the cuff pulled super low over his wrist. The next scene with Hood he’s in the cop car taking Rebecca home. That whole “you didn’t ask me if I robbed that truck” is filmed very intentionally to not show Antony’s wrist. Next scene is Hood and Carrie at the bar where Hood has a little wrap around his wrist and then Sugar gives him an ice pack for it. By the time he takes Carrie to the prison in the next scene, Hood is sporting the wrist wrap to cover Antony’s cast that we all know and love. I’d kill to know what order everything was filmed in and where exactly he hurt his wrist when filming. That’s the kind of thing you don’t know in advance to be able to plan for and write around.
BUT then he’s not wearing his brace to talk with Siobhan at the hotel when she beats up her ex at the end of that episode. So I guess they didn’t have time (or more likely the hotel room set was already tore down) to reshoot that scene?
Up until they wrapped the season he’s wearing the wrist wrap but it’s not bulky enough to be covering the cast. So you know what? I think that maybe Antony didn’t get the cast immediately after the injury. There’s so many scenes with just the wrist wrap and no cast that I think maybe they just wrapped it until he decided that he was actually hurt/not getting better and went to a doctor who put him in the cast later. That means anything in Season 2 with the cast like the scene where he takes Carrie in to prison must be a reshoot.

Started watching a few weeks ago. Season 1 was great, 2 was good. I've just started season 3 and it's not looking good. I typically find 2 seasons the magic point for anything and it looks like it might be the case for this too.
Chayton Littlestone is just too ridiculous a character. The whole Redbones thing just looks doomed from the start for me.
EDIT: Update- I've persevered with it and while Chayton is still a distracting low point I'm still enjoying it. I was delighted to see Nola return and just watched her and Clay Burton tangle. That was a great watch.

.. and while I like it, I don't find it particularly good.
The show itself was a very fun watch and it was shot and acted out good, but what I dislike is that after a bombastic start it turned into one of those shows that are just "scenery simulators" where you feel a disconnection between each scene and it's just characters teleporting to each other and acting out dialogues which are meant to be "deep" but aren't
Like every single time a character is in danger, Hood just teleports behind and saves that character, or something bad happens after a very wide shot, you zoom on the character's face and you suddenly see Kai in the middle of everything even though he wasn't there just a second ago.
And every single season finale is the standard formula - big shootout that is being ramped up to in the previous two episodes.
So no, I don't think it's a show that deserves to be up there with The Wire, Breaking Bad, Sopranos and all the other greats - it's a show that's firmly in the category of shows like The Mentalist - a fun watch, but not something extremely very well written, and for its place in the hierarchy it was done very well - I liked the characters (Job and Sugar dynamic was +++), but alas.. failed to meet the expectations others set for it.

The chemistry between Job and Sugar is stellar. Either near the end of season 1, or the start of season 2, Hood and Carrie are talking in the bar and Sugar drops a little umbrella into Jobs drink (who takes it out and throws it onto the bar).
A couple of episodes later, Job is at the bar with another umbrella laying next to the glass of whisky! Great attention to detail!

Love that Hood fought for Chloe, beat up Sanchez and broke many of his bits and even gave Sugar the watch to compensate him for losing the referee gig. So brilliant!
I don’t remember so many of these details since my first watch, but I remember the show was so compelling, so layered.
Hood was such a hero to all these people who couldn’t fight for themselves and as a DV survivor, it is cathartic to watch.
I remember loving Job and Sugar the most, and also Siobhan.
What did you love most about the show?

This guy js easily the 2nd in the entire show, he’s just pure quality, whoever wrote him ( I know the show is genius ) is an absolute master of their field.

Would you like a Banshee movie or limited series ? Based ten years in the future with “Hood” or leave as is. Hypothetically of course

Got pulled into watching Banshee again. The pilot was just so compelling. Couldn’t help but remember how Carrie and Rebecca look similar to me. Does anyone else feel this? If so, was there a reason to draw a parallel between both women?

Job (Hoob Lee) plays Lee in East of Eden, which has just been released on Netflix.
Oh, I'm so happy to see him back on my screen...and the Lee character is such an important role.
It's great so far, I'm on Ep 3, pretty faithful to the book....which was written by the absolute genius that was John Steinbeck.

not sure if i like this show yet, on one hand theres some good characters and storylines going on, on the other hand there is an incredible amount of cringe acting and silly dialogue that really undercut every other scene. does it get better after the first season? or am i in for a long one
