Collar stays
Hi all,
Just wondering what the general consensus is when it comes to collar stays.
For those who use and stock up on them, where should I be looking / buying?
Thanks in advance brains’ trust 😊

Hi everyone,
Almost 7 years ago, I made a spreadsheet of almost all the mens online stores in Australia, based off a list from /fa/, which currently lives in the sidebar of aMFA. I've now updated it, as well as added additional information (shipping fees, number of brands/products stocked, location etc.) to be a more useful resource, and also removed the shitty 4chan slang.
Why? I think Mens shopping in Australia is far behind the rest of the world - there are so many great, quality brands in the world, many of which receive a spotlight on MFA, but often only a few stores in Australia stock them. There are also loads of great Australian brands, and new ones launching, that are also impossible to find. I've also included a few major international sites that ship to Australia, but note the shipping price.
Why have I ranked them by tier? As many great stores exist in Australia, there are also loads of low quality chain stores that permeate every Westfield and Stockland. I'm hoping to bring light to some of the smaller, better shops to support them in this trying time, however I appreciate some of the opinions are quite subjective.
This Reddit table looks like shit! Sorry that's not my fault - I've published the excel version here, which includes even more details on each store (ie. what brands they stock, how many products they have online, etc.)
Where's X store? Let me know any shops I've missed, I'm sure there's a few I haven't covered. I've tried to make this exhaustive, but I've also purposely left off quite a few dadcore clothing (Gazman, Sportscraft, Rodd & Gunn) and boring shoe (Aquila, Windsor Smith) brands.
Before I get into it - there's a few interesting facts I've noticed when compiling this data:

Buy/Sell/Trade here at your own risk. Always get complete contact information before anything is shipped.
RULES:
Suggestions:
Use Paypal to facilitate these transactions. Gifting is fine, but understand the limits and liabilities of sending an unprotected "gift" to a seller. You'll save a bit of $, but it does leave you exposed if there is a fraudulent seller.
Another option is to use Grailed. You have the Paypal protection for both parties with much lower fees for the sellers. You also get a profile that shows the total number of transactions so you can use that as your proof of trustworthiness.
Please try to evaluate the "fair market value" of your items. No use in overpricing things and having them not sell. Check what the current selling price is on eBay to get a decent sense of FMV.
Feel free to ask for answers or pictures about an item you are interested in. A good seller will always be willing to answer you in a timely matter.
On the other hand, be a good buyer. Respond to the seller's communication, and be truthful about your intentions. Nothing is worse for a seller than answering a bunch of questions about fit and details, and then the potential buyer dropping off the map.

Hi all,
Just wondering what the general consensus is when it comes to collar stays.
For those who use and stock up on them, where should I be looking / buying?
Thanks in advance brains’ trust 😊

I know this may not exactly fit the sub however looking for advice
I like a simple t for every day use/seeing bands/casual night out etc. As I surf I generally go for surf branded shirts.
The quality in the last 1-2 years seems to have gone to absolute shit, along with the current fab and high necks (which irritates this shit out of me).
I’ve found my Deus shirts holding up the best, the rest average.
Any brand suggestions? I don’t mind totally plain shirts (have a couple AS colour which have held up)
I’m bit of a tight arse (that could be the problem!) and don’t really want to spend more that $40 a shirt
Am I dreaming?

I bought a pair of ABCs when I was unexpectedly sleeping at the hospital for a week following my daughter's birth, and they did the job I needed them to do - purchase within walking distance, be comfortable, not look terrible after days of sleeping in an armchair.
They haven't held up particularly well, and now I'm looking to replace the niche they serve in my wardrobe, but I kinda hate the trousers themselves. Can anyone recommend me something that'll do the job?

Hi all
I'm after recommendations for a blazer/sport coat that I can wear for work in any weather other than cold weather (I have a winter coat). So ideally something fit for hot summer days but also mild string/autumn weather. Budget would be $100-500.
I have been leaning toward Rodd & Gunn but would like to know what else is out there.
Thanks

Trying to be organised and get myself sorted for EOY party fit.
Theme is dress to impress, and I need some new trousers and shoes.
Previously have worn chinos from both industrie and country road that have been good, but wanted to see what recommendations are out there for pants I can wear with a tan coloured jacket, but also wear to work without looking out of place.
Also in the market for a new pair of shoes, something more summery than my RM's - thinking brown suede oxfords or loaders.
What have you got for me?

Hi all,
Has anyone bought a suit from mytuxedo.com.au? Looking at 50/50 wool polyester blend for a tweed suit, and wondering if this would be a good purchase? Only looking at occasional use

I had a Wahl Lithium Ion trimmer die on me after 2 years of weekly use when the power button broke.
I’m looking to buy a new beard trimmer but I feel like the typical beard trimmers sold, like the Phillips 9000 and One Blade, are fairly basic.
I’m considering investing in a barber specific trimmer as I’d assume the quality and cut is much better.
I typically shave my facial hair using the adjustable guard set at 2-4(mm?) - I’m assuming the number on the wahl adjustable 1-10 guard refers to the mm length
I’m currently looking at:
- Wahl A Lign
- Andis Slim Line Pro
- Wahl Waterproof Lithium-Ion Stainless Steel Grooming (safe option, non barber tool)
Open to any and all suggestions, thanks

As someone who swore off cotton on a few years ago, I recently went to their outlet and was pretty happy with some recent cops.
I know they're very fast fashion and obviously hop straight onto trends, but I was low-key impressed by the value you can get for some passable quality basics. Uniqlo was pretty much my go to for years, but I've been annoyed at their silhouettes lagging, and more importantly their enshittification of materials where everything is now poly blend trash and prices are pretty average too.
You obviously have to sift through mounds of garbage at cotton on and definitely shouldn't pay full price. But I grabbed heaps of 100% cotton shorts, t-shirts and tops that actually have a nice modern relaxed/cropped fit. Just as basics for summer, the materials aren't amazing, but do feel like they'll hold up well enough. Also super happy with a pair of 55% linen 45% cotton wide leg trackies for summer. Every piece was under $30 too.
What's everyone else's thoughts?

I'm doing some market research into an online personal styling service and would love some honest opinions.
The idea would primarily be aimed at people who have an upcoming event, like a wedding, birthday, engagement party, formal or other special occasion, and are struggling to find something to wear or simply don't have the time to look.
You'd enter your budget, clothing size, personal style, the type of event you're attending and any specific preferences. You'd then be matched with a personal stylist who would put together 2–3 complete outfit options for you, including clothing, shoes and accessories, with direct links to purchase everything from existing retailers.
You'd pay for the styling service itself, and then decide whether to purchase any of the recommended items separately.
Although the main focus would be event styling, there would also be the option to work with a stylist for everyday outfits, workwear, wardrobe refreshes or simply finding clothes that suit your personal style.
I'm curious:
I'm based in Australia, so I'd be especially interested in hearing from Australians.
I'm not advertising or selling anything. I'm just trying to work out whether there's genuine demand for a service like this before investing in the idea. Please be as honest as possible!

Hey guys, I’m a DJ based in Sydney and I’ve just launched my first clothing label, Bliss Selections.
The brand is rooted in underground music and club culture, which is where I’ve spent a lot of my time over the years.
This is the first release, BS / 001 - Lower Frequency. It’s a 230 GSM 100% cotton tee with a boxy, relaxed fit and plastisol screen print.
I’ve been working on everything myself alongside my full-time job, so I’d genuinely be interested to hear what you guys think of the first piece, particularly the design and fit.
Based in Sydney and shipping Australia-wide.
If anyone wants to see the tee/photos: https://blissselections.com/products/bs-001-lower-frequency

To preface: I know the go is to always check sidebars and posts, I did check them and only really found out that I should go to David Jones rather than Myer if I look at either of them. The Brisbane stores were outdated and didn't work as well.
Ok, cutting a long story short but I've had a chick interested in me from a work interaction and she's VERY keen to meet up outside of work, I've lost around 16 kg... currently 90 kg at 189 cm and I'm feeling like it's time to start dating/meeting with chicks before I'm too old.
Problem is I got no idea what to wear. I'll taking her out to dinner or drinks in a casual environment and I've literally never dated. The last time I had a girlfriend (ltr) was 2011 because I've ever been working big hours or just uninterested in trying because I was overweight etc.
So my question is: what do you guys wear in this situation? I've got red wings iron rangers, cdb etc... from back when I was getting interested in fashion, do people still wear these boots? or if not what's a good shoe to wear for casual drinks/food? I do have new balance 574 but they're just lazy shoes for walking the dog.
Also no Idea what to wear for clothing... my standout features are probably my arms (manual job) aside from facial features so short sleeved works well for me.
Ideally I would like to take her out as soon as possible hence this post. Hopefully it works thanks in advance for your time.

Hey ya’ll, just continuing from the previous post about which antiperspirant is good, I’d like to ask which roll-ons are actually worth the purchase?
mainly looking for something unscented, that doesn’t stain clothes and is suitable for sensitive skin.
i’ve tried the 'Mitchum Men’s Unscented' roll-on, but it’s started giving me minor red rashes.
please advise!

Hey, I'm having a hell of a time finding any boots like these in Australia. Hoping to spend a max of about 350. Looking for shaft length between 11 to 13 inches, lace-up, with a bit of heel. Has to be men's sizing because women's are always too narrow. Any input is welcome, except jokes about "shaft length."

I’m 30 and have already lost a pretty good amount of weight, but unfortunately the thigh chafing hasn’t gone away. I’ve tried a bunch of different men’s boxer briefs, but I still haven’t found anything that completely fixes it. I had one pair of longer athletic boxer briefs that worked pretty well, but since I sweat a lot, the longer length gets uncomfortable, and they’ve started riding up on me too. Has anyone else dealt with this? What boxer briefs have actually worked for you? Thank you in advance for all your answers!

I realise this is men’s fashion but I’m hoping someone may know.
My nephew loveeesss extra soft clothing and pjs. His request for last Christmas was 1000TC sheets that are luxurious and soft.
This year I’d like to get him pjs and maybe some clothes but I’ve not been able to find any quality, extra soft items and I’m lost on where to look.
He’s a teen and hates big brands. Hoping someone might have some recommendations please? I’d prefer cotton, bamboo or more natural materials but open to anything if it’s extra soft (but not sateen soft).

Hey everyone. I like many have been a bit disappointed in the longevity of my step ones over the past few years. In particular, I’ve noticed thinning of the fabric, a loss of general structural elasticity, and most critically, failures of pouch containment. So I have decided to run an experiment. I’ve ordered four pairs of what I like to call “premium jocks”, all with nylon panels for chafe resistance, and a slick and comfortable bamboo (or bamboo like) base.
The prices for each pair are below in AUD, but you can get cheaper with multiple purchases.
Frank and beans 20
Debriefs 36
Tackle 25
Step ones 33
They’ve just arrived, and I’ve given them a quick go to record my initial thoughts.
Frank and beans - comfort 6
95% viscose, 5% elastane. Overall comfort not bad, nice material, a little thin. Included pouch mesh cups thr plums nicely, but doesn’t produce much containment. Flapping about even during a first strut, worrying signs.
Step ones - comfort 8
95% viscose, 5% elastane. Nice baseline. Good tension, well contained. Familiar. The question here however is longevity not initial performance.
Tackle - comfort 8
95% viscose, 5% elastane. More solid construction, heavy duty waistband and serious pouch (no swing, polyester included). Thinnest fabric I’d say. Well held and comfortable, medium size is possibly slightly smaller around the legs than other brands
Debrief - comfort 9.5
94% micromodal, 6% elastane. Solid construction, soft thick fabric. Pouch has the raw cuppage of the tackles without the specialised construction or tight legs . Luxuriant jocks for sure. Girlfriend likes these the most.
Obviously the issue here isnt so much day one comfort but long term resilience to washes, friction, and the ungodly forces jocks are subjected to. As such, the plan is to wear them in a predetermined order, to evenly distribute wear and tear, and check back in periodically with updates. The objective here is not to crown the most expensive jocks as the best, but rather to compare price to comfort, lifetime at peak comfort, and total lifetime to work out how much is worth paying.
Cheers, talk soon.

Hey guys,
My hubby is 6'6 and roughly a size 3xl depending on brand. Even when we go bigger, the inseam and sleeve length for long clothes just doesn't reach. He looks like he's wearing hand-me-downs that he outgrew a year ago 😅 we've tried department store and Mr Big, but they only size up in a horizontal sense, and all that shit shrinks after the first wash 😭
His other issue is his feet. They're long. They're wide. They're really hard to shop for. He's been buying Oliver work boots I think, but he believes they're not wide enough and when he goes up a size to compensate, that extra toe box room gives him front foot pain. We found a brand online called Wode Load, has anyone used them? Or any other recs for work boots (size 14-15 in a super wide fit; steel caps—no hazardous mats so leather isn't essential, he'd actually prefer something that breathes)

I am planning my first trip to Beijing during Xmas week and have been told it gets colder than Melbourne, so to come prepared. So a question for fellow Melbournians, is it similar to our winters, or should I be preparing better?
Secondly will my typical Columbia down jacket work fine outdoors during the winters, or do I need to buy a warmer jacket?
I typically go out, usually wearing just a hoodie or my down jacket and feel fine in Melbourne winters. Obviously, we will be spending a lot more time outdoors.
