Ask Austin Best Karaoke spots? Possibly lone troubador friendly?
In town for the week on work, and the stress is real and would be greatly alleviated by belting out some Tool or croonin' some Billy Joel. Any recommendations? I mention the solo aspect because I'm not too proud, but karaoke booth spots are just a sad bridge too far.
Serious bonus points for an unorthodox book.
Edit Thanks for the recommends! See y'all out there on the mic.

the karaoke underground on lamar is weird and wonderful, they got a small stage instead of booths so you won’t feel like you’re singing into a void. crowd’s usually mix of regulars and randoms so nobody blinks at a solo act. plus their song book has deep cuts most places don’t bother with

I go with my friends to Dance Dance Karaoke. I don’t wanna sing in front of people. I just wanna go hard

Captain Quackenbush off of Manchaca near Stassney has Karaoke the first Saturday of the month. Cool spot.
Edit: I now realize this is very unhelpful if you're only here for a week.

Ego’s has a mean song list, meaner bartenders, and is located underground in a parking garage next to the deaf school (so no one complains). And they have big buck hunter. Just go.

big disclaimer I've never been, but there's a dueling pianos bar on 6th street. I've been to a dueling pianos show in other cities and the pianists were great, jovial hosts. I assume you can sing along?
I hope your week gets less stressful!!

Fuck Canary Roost. Customer service sucks ass and one time I walked in and the door guy who didn't look like a door guy cuz he was sitting and chatting with a couple other peeps by the door shouted "hey... Hey.... HEY!" and it's a loud bar and why should I think he's talking to me since he's behind me. This asshole gets up and fucking grabs my shoulder and demands my ID. Yeah I left and have never gone back.

Been going to this bar for 15 years, they have never ONCE had a 'door guy' There is no 'floor staff' whatsoever. They card at the bar. You order at the bar. I don't know where you are talking about but it isn't here.

This was sometime around 2006. And yes I know exactly what and where I'm talking about. Right on Metric; I used to live on Sunhillow Bend across the street. I understand it's been 20 years so if they've become better, good for them. Still not going back.

Canary Roost doesn’t have the features that you’re describing. Are you sure you aren’t thinking of Common Interest?

100% positive; I used to live across the street. This incident was 20 years ago, so I guess they don't have a door guy anymore.

canary roost, grab a seat at the bar and have a great time with a great group of electic and wild people. talk to your neighbors, i swear they will be unlike any other. our favorite saying there, the odds may not be good but the goods are definitely odd (myself included of course!)
