Safest parking options at DTW ?

looking for a safe, reliable place to park my car for a few days while traveling.
For those who regularly fly out of DTW, which parking options do you recommend? Is the airport’s official long-term parking worth the extra cost, or are off-site parking lots equally safe?
I’d appreciate recommendations based on security, shuttle reliability, and overall value. Thanks!

I’ve parked here 8-10 times never had an issue. They shuttle you from your car to the airport and when you get back shuttle you back to your vehicle. Just get your luggage and wait at the airport you will see one of their shuttles within 10-15 mins

This is the best answer. Its the most convenient of all the off site shuttle parking. This is the one employees use if they don’t want to use the employee lot.

This is the one. I have never had to wait for a shuttle.

If you look online, it’s a little less expensive

Park here every other week when I fly out for work. It’s better than the garages because you don’t have to hunt for a spot.

10000% this.

I’ve used them before, they were great!

Yep. Grab a coupon online to save $1/day. Have parked there for past 15 years dozens of times per year. If you have an EV they have spots to trickle charge, which is great and you’re the first one dropped off on your return.

USpark is perfectly safe. $15/day I think?

I also park at Dearborn transit center and take the bus for $2 (route 261) for shorter 3-5 day trips quite often. No issues doing that either.

Yes, the off-site lots are fenced and employees are on-site 24/7.

I agreed for the last 10 years I've two to three times a month and have always used US park with no issues

The only reason I could see why they wouldn’t park at DTW is the cost but as someone who travels for work, I just do the deck as it’s right there and it’s a short walk inside. Yes it’s pricey but it’s worth it to me.

Thanks. Whats the name of parking I should put on maps to reach here ?

Are you fucking dumb? Drive to the airport, park in long term parking.

It’s simple.

I little harsh? OP there are garages at both terminals for long term parking. Be wary though that they cost like $32/Day but I do agree the convenience is worth it to me. The offsite shuttle lots are 12-15 but you may have to wait for a shuttle to show up

Don't be a dick.

To answer OP's question, you need to know which terminal you're flying out of. McNamara terminal has its own deck attached by a skywalk. Evans Terminal uses the Big Blue Deck.

I’m not being a dick. Parking is at the airport, there are 20+ signs that show where to go.

Op being dumb isn’t my problem.

Parked at various parking lots at DTW over 30 years probably 50x and never had a safety issue. Don’t keep valuable stuff in your car no matter where you park.

I've been happy with USPark.

Airlines Parking. You can get a coupon off their website. They’re easy to get to. Shuttle picks you up at your car, drops you at your terminal. Drivers are super friendly. Have used them for many years with zero issues.

Qwik Park is always my go to ams theyre safe and reliable!!

Airlines parking, qwik park, US park. All owned by the same company. Grab a coupon online or just show it on your mobile. Don’t need to book in advance. Been using them for years, multiple times a year with no issue. Only inconvenience sometimes is waiting for the shuttle back to the cars after you arrive, depending on what time of day or how busy it is (i.e. it is basically a free for all of grabbing the shuttle, but during the day they come quickly and frequently).

Qwik Park is great. We also just came home from two weeks in europe and parked at Airlines Parking with a voucher from the hotel we stayed at the night before we left, and i would also recommend them. (Either way, write down where you parked, just in case. Those lots are huge.)

u/bklynJayhawk 3d ago

Quik Park generally marks down where they pick you up on a piece of paper they hand you (bright red). Agree it’s best to write it down, but it’s easy to hand the pickup driver at airport that tag and they’ll take you to your car.

OP I assume all off site parking spots are equally as safe. All are gated to get in/out so shouldn’t be any people going in with bad intentions. They want to make sure they’re safe as bad experiences would get around and people would go elsewhere (although I think same company owns most/all these lots anyways). On site parking at terminals is also safe, maybe feels unsafe being in a garage deck but don’t think there are lots of issues either way.

I use airlines parking every time. They are great.

How many days are you going to be away? If it truly is just a few then parking is fine but at 4+ days I usually just Uber/Lyft as it's often cheaper

I park in the green lot on site for weeks at a time with no issues

u/majestic_landotter 3d ago

Us park. They usually send out coupons and always great service for pickup

Just park at the terminal - it’s more expensive but no waiting for shuttles. Plus it’s covered.

I like the Big Blue deck at DTW

The answer USED to be use a motorcycle and park in the Macnamara garage for free at the Delta terminal, and worse case take the shuttle to the other terminal but with the work in the garage over the past year I think they've gotten rid of it. I saved thousands (and a ton of time) over the past few years using that hack. Greedy bastards.

If you can handle the (exorbitant) fees, use the Macnamara garage if Delta or the big Blue deck for the other non delta friendly airlines.

Otherwise, Qwik park or Airlines parking both seem to have pretty equally fast shuttles and about the same price. Use whatever is easiest for you.

Another hack used to be use the Sheraton (next to Qwik park) but they've increased their parking fee lately and at off hours they only have one shuttle. Their lot also isn't' technically "secure" (i.e gated or fenced)

I’ve been using US Park for 25 years and it has always been safe, secure, and easy. $15/day (slightly cheaper if you book online or use a coupon). Shuttles are fast, usually not crowded, and the drivers are really nice!

I’ve always packed at US Park. We had a corporate discount we could use for personal travel. My friend used Airlines Parking because she got the corporate discount there. One time I got sent over to Quick Park. Excuse US Park was full.

Last I heard all there are owned by the same company now. All tell you where to park, have a shuttle come right to your car, give you a slip with the parking info and drop you off at your car when you return.

All are open lots so the only issue is if it snows you need to clear off your car. I did a lot of last minute short trips for long distance elder care and those flights usually came back late. In winter I’d pay extra to park under cover because I knew I would be coming back late and exhausted.

I always felt safe and secure for myself and my car at any of the airport lots I parked in (been flying out of DTW since 1988 for family visit and a bunch of work trips several years ago).

The three off airport lots usually have coupons you can find online or may still over AAA discounts.

I’ve never had an issue at Airlines Parking.

I always park at US Park. They have great bus service.

Everything and everywhere near the airport is safe. Detroit and the metro as a whole is safe.

Im a pilot a commute elsewhere for work. I always park at either airlines parking (yellow buses) or Qwik Park (red busses) they're both owned by the same person so it doesn't make much of a difference.

Long term parking at the airport is 100% not worth it. and I don't think it has happened in a min but for a while people were stealing the nice cars right out of the garage since it is mostly unattended where the off site lots have people roaming around pretty much 24/7.

1

u/FlyingMitten 3d ago

You didn't provide who is paying? Personal or work?

1

u/cantmicro 3d ago

It's all pretty safe if you're using o e of the commercial off-site lots or an on-site option.

1

u/throwaway12233889 2d ago

Just use the deck directly at the airport. It’s worth the extra cost. It’s safe, secure, don’t have to wait for a shuttle. Just remember where you parked

1

u/Acrobatic-Grape5960 2d ago

Airlines Parking. Lot's of shuttles with virtually no wait. Pre-pay online for the best deal.
I've parked there well over 50 times without issue.

1

u/Far-Fortune2118 2d ago

I’ve always had good experiences with Airline parking!

1

u/BeginningOil5960 1d ago

I used to work at US Park. For some reason most people do not know that US Park, Qwik Park, Airlines Parking and Park-N-Go are all owned by the same owners. So it really doesn’t matter which of the 4 you park with.

1

u/Sexypsychguy 1d ago

Uber directly to terminal. Costs same or less than driving, parking, paying the same or more, etc.

1

u/National_Purple7358 6h ago

Airlines parking 100 percent

1

u/remes1234 6h ago

I use onsite parking. The green lot is only about 6 per day more. If i am flying for work i use the terminal structures.

They are all pretty safe… the greatest concerns are probably cost and timing. Some of the off site lots it can get a bit annoying waiting for a shuttle, etc and the airport has gotten so huge sometimes taking the shuttle to the terminal can take as long— if not longer— than getting through TSA or taxiing on the tarmac awaiting for takeoff.
