Use this thread to ask general questions that apply to you more than to the region.
For example, what music you like that is acceptable, what quirks or behaviours you have that are seen as offensive, if your music would be appreciated.

Hey everyone, I'm doing some cultural research and wanted to ask about how traditional Circassian communities in the Caucasus view marriage outside the ethnicity, specifically when it comes to the diaspora.
How strict are families living in places like Nalchik or Adygea regarding marrying outside the culture? And for someone from the diaspora (e.g., in the Levant) who has partial ancestry (like a great-grandparent or grandparent) but grew up entirely outside the culture without speaking the language, would they still be culturally considered part of the community, or are traditional families very rigid about sticking strictly to local/pure Circassian bloodlines?
Also, does a distant or partial bloodline actually affect acceptance for marriage among them, or is the bloodline alone enough to be welcomed by everyone?
Just curious about how strict these social norms actually are nowadays. Thanks!

Hey guys! Random question, but are there any Circassians who are Christian, or does anyone know any Circassian Christians? Just curious if there are any communities out there today. Would love to hear if anyone knows anything about this!

Hi,
Native Georgian speaker here. I’ve been teaching for about 3 weeks now (mostly people from Reddit) and I’m open to new students.
Before that I spent years helping international volunteers and non-natives practice conversation and adapt to everyday situations.
I cover everything from absolute beginner to advanced and always keep an individual approach. Looking to start from zero, improve casual speaking, or just survive markets and taxis, I'm happy to help.
Still keeping prices budget-friendly compared to language apps.
Just message me if you want to try.

Hey. I’m planning on going to Armenia later this fall. I have stamps from Azerbaijan, which I visited this summer, in my passport. Is it gonna cause any problems when entering Armenia?
I was in Azerbaijan only as a tourist.

I am curious what you learn there in schools. Just Russian history or also history of that republic and causation people there? Maybe there is separate history for Russian and world and separate for republics?

I do realize how distinct the Caucasus is from the Middle East. Yet in many ways the Caucasus and Middle East seem intertwined and there is considerable interaction between them. So I had gotten to wondering what those from Caucasus feel about the Middle East in its current form.
If you can change one aspect of the Middle East, whether it be changes in how the majority of countries are run, making it so certain nations no longer existed or changing something about the culture or other aspects, what would it be? If you had full power to change just one thing about the Mid East, what would it be?

Hi! I’m an amateur creative writer currently working on a novel. It’s genre is mainly slice-of-life / chosen family and follows three adolescents who become a family to each other in the 2000s of Rostov on Don in Russia.
One of the three main characters is a male Avar and from Dagestan. I’m looking for an authenticity reader who could help me check whether his background, traditions, upbringing, religion and family dynamics feel plausible.
I’d mainly need someone willing to read his character bible, a family dossier or possibly 2–3 scenes written from his POV, details can be discussed. I need someone to oint out anything that feels inaccurate, stereotypical or culturally off.
I’d especially appreciate feedback from someone who is Avar or grew up around Avar families in Dagestan. Someone from the Khunzakhsky District or the broader surrounding region, specifically from Orkachi, would be especially helpful, but that is absolutely not a requirement.
If anyone would be interested, please let me know :)
