Following Ukraine's reported attacks on Russian bot farms, what changes have you noticed in your social media feeds over the past 24 hours?

Some subs are definitely quieter.. I'd be interested to see the traffic figures

u/Slyspy006 9h ago
Aside from questions like this in from various subs, I have to say that r/uknews seems strangely absent from my feed which is unusual. But that might just be me, or a coincidence.

Yeah, because they're also bots. Western intelligence agencies have a bunch of bots as well.
6
u/Only_Dragonfruit_117 8h ago
That somebody keeps asking this same damn question. Starting to think the bots didn’t go anywhere.

u/Burning_Okra 9h ago
My Instagram today appears to just now be endless clips of 1980s British comedies, especially clips of Cannon and Ball.

I've seen an increase in bots convincing people that recently you have less bots. Sneaky bots be sneaky.

Definitely noticing the extreme inflammatory comments on political Facebook posts are way down.
House of Commons uploaded the photo of the new Labour MP swearing in on the Quran, the comments were probably 75% positive which is completely reasonable, still 1 in 4 right wing eejits but that's just expected in this country, the real difference was the astroturfed fake accounts making them look like the majority
16
u/WatcherOfTheWay 9h ago
Fewer far left people giving me abuse, also fewer far right people giving me abuse, seems all the extremes on Reddit are bots
11
u/Unit_2097 6h ago
If it helps, i'm far left, not a bot, and have no desire to hurl abuse at anyone very much.
It doesn't help persuade anyone, it just makes us all look like idiots. Which I guess is the point of bot farms doing it.

u/Cobrammaallday 9h ago
Being honest I haven't seen no difference.. just another day on the internet.... Damn. I must be a ßot. 🤔

The only changes I've noticed are how many people say they've noticed changes. Still seeing plenty of inane questions. People like to attribute all the derisive comments to 'russian bots' when in reality there's just a lot of people - English and otherwise - that feels brave behind a keyboard and let their racism run rampant.
2
u/No-Movie-1604 9h ago
Interestingly, I am now noticing a huge uptick in left wing videos.
As a centrist I'm finding it quite amusing and can't help but think this is all just a bit weird.
2
u/Fit-Campaign1243 8h ago
Nothing. I think this is all propaganda. Russia isn't going to change its MO because Ukraine used drones on its 'bot farms' (or in all probability residential blocks).
2
u/redandbluebadness 9h ago
Seems to have been a bit of a myth. All the reports of cleaned up social media is just people getting giddy

All the articles about Burnham stating the EU referendum was rigged haven't been followed up by ones about him having to admit no, it wasn't.
I can only assume that's because the original articles were by Russian bots, not Redditors being unwilling to admit they will believe any old shite if it suits them.
Course not...!
12
u/DrParadoxOG 9h ago
No one said it was rigged. What we did have was lots of misinformation and russian money flooding into the brexit camp. Isnt that right comrade?

This is just ridiculous cope. Do you really believe the Russians are responsible for Brexit? 😂 I remember Barack Obama literally telling us we should vote to remain and that we’d be “back of the queue” if we left the EU. But I guess you’re not upset about American meddling in the referendum? “Russian bots” are a very useful invention to deny an election outcome you don’t like.
7
u/Exciting_Car4350 8h ago
There is an ally saying, don't do this thing it would be a bad thing to do, we love you don't do it. And an enemy wanting you to do it because it will damage you and thats what they want. One is concerned ally and the other is meddling. I hope that helps
-3
u/Sad-Jellyfish-8556 8h ago
“We love you” lol. You sound like a child.
The Americans got involved because our government asked them to, and because it suited them having their British lapdog in the room in Brussels.
Despite the many copium claims of “Russian interference” I’m yet to be provided with any actual meaningful evidence. You’re just going to have to accept that most Brits did not want to stay in the EU. I know it probably offends your sensibilities, but it’s true. And if Burnham is foolish enough to propose re-entering, it will kill Labour’s chances at the next election. Have you forgotten the 2019 election already, what it was fought on (“get Brexit done”) and who won in a landslide?
2
u/Exciting_Car4350 8h ago
Lots of idiots including myself then, not really getting the info needed. I know for a fact in 2016 I had no idea. I just did it on feelings. Lots of people that I speak to that voted out now want back in. Thats not feeling thats the truth.
1
u/ahktarniamut 6h ago
People voted based on misinformation. They thought too many polish and Eastern European are here and more will come . Farage even used the slogan millions of people will come from Turkey into the UK. They really thought Brexit will stop immigration for once and all as this what they have been told
-1
u/Sad-Jellyfish-8556 8h ago edited 8h ago
Okay..I voted leave and stand by it. I also know people who voted remain who had no idea about the EU. One person I know voted remain because they thought we’d be out of UEFA football competitions if we left..there are a lot of poorly informed voters out there..I don’t know why you assume the idiot voters were all on the leave side. Many remain voters were also presumably convinced by the deluge of project fear remain campaigning, which included but was not limited to Labour, conservatives, Lib Dem’s, greens, the CBI, the Bank of England, most big businesses, Barack Obama. Despite the overwhelming number of prominent parties and figures being pro remain, leave won. There’s no democratic case to revisit this question just 6 years after we left the EU.
1
u/Exciting_Car4350 8h ago
Of course, some people if there was another referendum, may now vote out but I and many others would now vote in. OK not all were idiots some just didn't know there would be such a shit show from leaving. I'm quite sure it would be a very close thing again though.
1
u/Home_Planet_Sausage 6h ago
It's wasn't meddling. It was a statement of fact that a decade later still holds true.

u/ThatFatGuyMJL 9h ago
Ive seen a lot of bots trying to claim all the anti migration and 'right wing' questions have dissapeared.
Meanwhile many 'left wing' and anti migration posts have also disappeared
5
u/Sweary_Biochemist 8h ago
Thia is to be expected: the russian model is not to amplify one side over the other, it is to exaggerate both 'sides' to extremes that encourage conflict and infighting and general political disengagement, such that you no longer know what to believe, but are also angry and disillusioned all the time.
They're not pushing a view: they're pushing conflict.
2
u/ahktarniamut 6h ago
But I have a feeling that Elon Musk was pushing more right wing rhetoric and content . Even if you block or mute the algorithm keep sending you those contents through other accounts.
•
u/Sweary_Biochemist 5m ago
Oh he is, yes. He started wandering down the alt-right rabbithole, then bought a social media service and used it to push more alt-right bullshit, then believed his own algorithm and kinda...radicalised himself. He's part victim as well as very much full time asshat and techbro douche-canoe.
Would almost be funny if not so awful for everyone.

Not everyone blindly believes social media mate, unlike you I'm able to think for myself.
2
u/pazz5 8h ago
Ha ha ha. Ok mate. Keep posting around the clock on here, you do realise we can search your post history don't you?
1
u/Neilkd21 8h ago
Ok mate keep believing everything you read. Some of us are able to engage critical thinking. You do you mate, the world needs idiots so you have a place
2
u/OrangeBeast01 9h ago
I get your point but, maybe this this interesting development wasn't aimed at you?
-3
u/Neilkd21 9h ago
Interesting development 😂

u/OrangeBeast01 8h ago
Are you really going to deny there are Russian bot farms operating in western media? Are you going to be that wilfully obtuse?
0
u/Neilkd21 8h ago
Put your tinfoil hat on mate.
1
u/OrangeBeast01 8h ago
Oh dear.
This is well known. Here's one source, and just incase you're going to try and claim bias, here's another, from the Yandex (Russian) search engine no less.
Go back to sleep mate.
0
u/Neilkd21 8h ago
Haha American claims and yandex as sources 😂 yeah mate that tells us all we need to know about your intelligence, or lack of intelligence.

u/OrangeBeast01 8h ago
Put your tin foil hat on mate.

u/Sad-Jellyfish-8556 7h ago
Suppose it’s true that Russia uses these bots (not that I’m particularly convinced of this, but for the sake of argument), do you suppose it’s the only country doing this? What makes you think the UK doesn’t have bots interfering in Russian websites? Or are we the “good guys” and nasty Russia are the baddies..? Is that your childlike understanding of how the world works?
2
u/Mobile_South_9117 6h ago
Or are we the “good guys” and nasty Russia are the baddies..? Is that your childlike understanding of how the world works?
I was going to say something similar, but I think you've pretty much covered it.
1
u/OrangeBeast01 7h ago
I know the UK along with allies have been engaging in tit for tat cyber warfare for years, unlike the person I was replying to, apparently.
There's a wealth of data on this. Seriously, you have to to have your head stuck in the sand if you're going to comment on this subject while ignorantly playing devil's advocate.

Put your tin foil hat on mate.
You found those WMDs in Iraq yet mate?
1
u/OrangeBeast01 5h ago
Nope. They never existed. Do you think I'm of the opinion my own government don't partake in nefarious activities to keep them ontop?
Keep up mate.

I can't honestly say I've noticed anything on reddit, but I'm on a bunch of space facebook groups (because I like throwing shit at moon landing deniers) and there it's been spectacular. Last week, every post about the crew 12 mission was drowned in "fake" "firmament" "never been" "how do you fit the jeep in it" etc, this week basically none.

u/Ok_Insect_2037 4h ago
Every other post saying “B*t test” and then the most basic, lukewarm take ever.

Interesting. Does that mean people can’t accuse me of being a bot if I talk about genuine concerns now?
1
u/Mariashax 18m ago
I think I’m seeing less political posts about America and I’m sure I’ve seen a few more about British politics. My feed seems to have a lot more variety from the subs I follow, rather than numerous posts from the same handful of subs.

Ive noticed more redditors being smug and less trans posts reaching the front page. Weird.

I never see trans posts. Interesting how that works.

Andy said Russia tried to influence brexit so we've put down our 'old ladies we want to smash in the head with a hammer list' and started wanking ourselves off to how those violent, easily brain washed far righters were scammed by Russian bots.
We did wilfully ignore the bit after 'Downing Street said the prime minister “absolutely” accepted the Brexit referendum result and believed it to be legitimate, while the foreign minister, Stephen Doughty, said it was clear Russia had attempted to interfere but had failed'
