Other What do you guys call Odlaw?
i know in Britain they call the main character Wally instead of Waldo, but what do they do about Odlaw? do they reverse his British name like they do in America and call him Yllaw, or do they keep him Odlaw?

I know sometimes search is a bit enshittified & reddit is where everyone turns rather than doing their own homework, but this is literally on the wiki page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where%27s_Wally%3F#Odlaw
His name "Odlaw" is simply a reversal of "Waldo" from the American editions, although he is still called "Odlaw" in the United Kingdom as well.

I just realised that Odlaw is Waldo backwards. I never realised, because who the fuck is Waldo?

We call him Odlaw, which is Waldo backwards.

He wasn't introduced until after the 3rd Wally book, at which point "Waldo" was already established and popular in America so "Odlaw" ended up being used here too. Guessing they just never felt the need to change it for the UK audience.

He’s still Odlaw, despite Waldo being Wally.

I remember the name Odlaw as a child reader. It was more interesting in this country because we had no way of realising that it was backwards for Waldo.

I think you'll find it's more... "In the US we call the main character Waldo instead of Wally." Y'all mixed him up, not us.

I’m now just finding out that Where’s Wally is British and it was America who renamed him, the Odlaw discrepancy led me to believe Waldo was the original name

I've only ever known him as Waldo, and core character as Wally. This is all very confusing.

Ahh we used to call him the robber. Me and friends used to swear he was the same ones from the sims !😂

As far as I'm aware, all the other characters are the same.
In case you aren't aware, the US and Canada are the only ones that re-name Wally (for some bizarre reason).

Hang on though, if Wally is the original then why is the villain called Odlaw? That is a bit weird

Where's Waldo is such a part of American culture it's weird to remember that it's originally a British creation.
