SHITPOST Would you like Anco to continue touring when they are in their 80's?

Personally I imagine AC will be like the Greatful Dead in this regard. Ride till the wheels come off. It'd be cute though to see them play some of their faster stuff in the later years.

Lol I love how thirsty everyone is on here for panda bear. He’s adorable but I’ve always had a crush on our boy Deak😍

Loved the long hair on him! I saw him live last year and he’s aging like fine wine imo 🤭

"fine asf" the man had aged horribly. i guess that's what the guilt of cheating on your wife does to a mf

I would hope that they’ll retire happily whenever the time is right

Whatever makes them happy. But would love a SJ 20th tour next year.

I never want to say never, but considering Avey has said Strawberry Jam is his least favorite Animal Collective album, I can’t imagine he’d really want to do a tour.

But at one point Avey also said they’d never do a full album retrospective tour at all and the Sung Tongs tour did eventually happen. So I definitely don’t want to say there are 0 chances, but it would be incredibly surprising if they do a tour for SJ, which Avey famously doesn’t like when they didn’t for Feels which they all love. That, and after so long of not touring you have to imagine they have a lot of new stuff they’d rather play

Who is more comparable to to the Grateful Dead than AnCo these days? the long improvizational jam performances, the similarly free & psychedelic worldview of the band & audience. I've always thought AnCo went a step further than them even, but maybe if I grew up when the Dead were a bit bigger I'd have different feelings about it

The dead were a very active live band. Anco has been pretty dormant as a group as far as performances go. Anco rules but its blue berries vs. raspberries. Still, shitpost went over my head.

AnCo is great but they are not in the same conversation as the dead. The dead were extremely revolutionary and the impact they left on culture, music, recording techniques, how bands tour, etc far far far surpase anything anco has done.

I say this is a massive anco fan, it's not even close

Thank God for that

If you saw the way Jerry Garcia was in the 90s, especially like past 1991, you wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I don’t think these dudes are leading the type of life Jerry was…

u/cloudtransplant Aug 22 '26

Most aren’t. It’s not normal to look like that in your 40s/50s. Dude lived HARD

Jerry Garcia was 48 in 1990 and died at 53. Our boys are 47/48. Fortunately none of them are obese with a crippling heroine addiction.

well beyond that, Animal Collective intentionally decided they didn't want to be a band that continued to live almost strictly off touring revenue as they got older, and made that decision to cut back (not that Animal Collective tours were even remotely close to the same huge machine as the Dead were)

But "ride it until the wheels come off" sort of rubs me wrong way because it makes it seem like they envision a world where 80 year old Animal Collective are still playing shows because they felt a personal and financial obligation to do so and would keep doing it until it killed them, because that's what happened to Jerry sadly (though he also had a lot of other issues too as you point out lol), and I doubt OP meant it that way.

In the sense that I hope Animal Collective are still playing shows in their 80s for the joy of it, yes, I agree, but ONLY for the joy of it.

He also wasn’t a member of the Greatful Dead.

I would absolutely hate that. I saw them in 2016 and they were still dressed like hipster kids and it was kind of embarrassing. Havnt really loved much since MPP tbh
