Effective immediately, if you have a device with the Google TV UI, please make one post at the Google TV subreddit, don't crosspost or repeat the same post on the Android TV subreddit, it will be deleted with the exception of:

- Posts about apps that work on both UIs.

- Posts of news articles that affects both UIs.

- Posts looking for advise on what device to buy.

It's worth mentioning that all posts will be reviewed for approval before they go live, so make sure you indicate the name of the device or the name of the UI on the title or description of your post.

Someone from Google is going to provide assistance on the Google TV subreddit, therefore, this is a good opportunity to provide feedback as well as to receive support from them.

This is their official statement:

"We will use the account u/GoogleHelpCommunity to provide timely technical support, help route escalations, and share updates on known outages on r/GoogleTV. We’ve chosen this subreddit because of its active community, and we want to ensure our presence adds value without disrupting the organic discussions you’ve cultivated.

Discussion ADB and android tv

I discovered something nice that I didn't know. I have a android tv I live in jamaica. I have a Wisdom Share smart tv originally show 720p and I was messing around with a pixel app for Android phones and I downloading it on the tv ran a adb command to activate the pixel resolution app.(It's not like a Google tv where you could select your resolution type .. it has to be done through adb/the pixel resolution app) I tried changing the resolution to 3840 × 2160 but the highest it could go was 2560 × 1440 and wow the quality now is amazing. Android Tvs are the best in my opinion rokus Samsung and vizio doesn't offer this much freedom. I feel kinda late lol

Buying Advice Looking for a Smart TV that can open any streaming websites directly

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy a 32-inch Smart TV in Morocco.

My main requirement is to be able to connect it to Wi-Fi, search on Google, open websites, and watch movies directly in the browser, without connecting a PC or phone.

For those who own a Smart TV, does this work well? Which model would you recommend based on your own experience?

Thanks!

Discussion Installing launcher apps

Hey all,

I just use projectivy, and tbh haven't tied others,. I'm fine with Projectivy.

I actually just wondering if all launchers have to go through a similar process to projectivy, or if there are Launcher that just can be installed like a regular apk. Simple and easy.

Just for some older family members I can't get too

Troubleshooting Urgent help, i fucked my Akai 3232M by disabling its system launcher from adb, now it's stuck on the boot logo.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was just doing a simple debloat from wireless adb of this boy and now just by disabling its default launcher com.cvte.tv.launcher.fall is going through a bootloop, no wireless adb working unfortunately in this phase, the only thing that i found scanning all network ips is the Fire stick in the kitchen, do you mind any solution? I can't access anything in any way for now, i tried accessing like a secret boot option but if i long press any button and try to turn it on it just doesn't.

I don't want to switch as i can't right now and this TV is really smooth compared to many other trash Android TVs even though has 8GB of storage and No bluetooth.

Edit: I don't know how, but thanks to u/Ok-Fix-9708 i fixed my TV using a TP-Link AV100 adapter and an ethernet cable and my pc successfully catched my tv on adb i enabled the system launcher again, i'm so fucking happy

Buying Advice Are there any sticks/boxes, than run newer versions of Android?

The current version of Android is version 17.

However, the vast majority of Android TV Sticks/Boxes seem to cap out at around Android 13/14, some even run Android 11 or older.

Just wondering - Are there any TV Sticks/Boxes running Android 15-17? And if not, why?

I've heard older versions of Android are a security risk to still run now - is that true with these TV boxes?

Or is version 13/14 still new enough for now & the future?

Thanks

Buying Advice Certified Google TV STICK (Android 14)

I'm looking for a Google-certified 4K TV stick (HDMI stick, not a box) running Google TV based on Android TV OS 14.

So far, I've looked at the LEAP NOVA 4K and Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen).

Which one would you recommend, and are there any other sticks worth considering? Any better alternatives available today?

Thanks

Troubleshooting Issue with xiaomi mii stick youtube app

Hello,

Last year I bought a androidtv Mi TV Stick (model MDZ-24-AA) to use at my place with an old phone (Huaweii 08 Lite) serving as a wifi hotspot. It was working fine, no buffering, youtube playing at 1080p no problem.

Now, recently i decided to buy a propor hotspot router (And I bought the Mercusys MT115 - Mini router Hotspot 4G LTE Cat4) and ever since using it instead of the mobile phone, my androidtv stick just gets stuck playing youtube videos in 1080p. It wither freezes, or in "auto" quality it goes to 360p or even 240p(!). It also buffers on basic apps like replaio.

This only happens with the androidtv stick. I'm using the same hotspot device to connect my laptop and other phone, and I can play and stream videos on youtube, twitch, etc, no problem.

Has anyone gone through a similar situation and what would you recommend I do here?

I'm not sure if this is the correct sub to post it and if not, could someone help me redirect to the best subreddit for this please 🙏

Tips & Tutorials Guide: How to setup Cloudfare Warp on AndroidTV using wgcf

Thanks to u/LivingNecessary9789 that made a guide to use Warp on the FireStick, I'm rewriting this to adapt it to my Xiaomi MiBox 3rd Gen

Lately I had some issues with my provider banning the DNS resolving of my IPTV service and I discovered that using Warp the issue was solved.

So looked at this guide for the Firestick and corrected and I would like to share it with you

Part 1: Preparing the config file

  1. Download the right version of wgcf for your PC from here. (I used wgcf_***_windows_amd64.exe version on W11)
  2. Rename the downloaded file to wgcf.exe for convenience.
  3. Open terminal in the folder with the downloaded file, or run it and navigate to the folder using: cd yourfolderpath (for example cd c:\Users\yourname\Desktop\)
  4. Run these commands
    • wgcf.exe register
    • wgcf update
    • wgcf generate
  5. You should have a file named wgcf-profile.conf in the folder
  6. Download https://download.wireguard.com/android-client/ and keep it in the same folder of the generated files
  7. Rename it wireguard.apk
  8. Download SDK platform Tools if you don't have it (Adb)
  9. Unzip the platform Tools it in the same folder as all the other files

Part 2: Setting it up on your Android TV

  1. On your OS you have to enable developer options from Settings->About by clicking 10 times your Android TV OS build
  2. In Settings->System->Developer options your have to enable USB Debugging and Wireless Debugging
  3. Find your local network IP address navigating to your WiFi infos and write it down
  4. Use this adb commands to install wireguard and send the conf file to your tv box:
    • adb connect 192.168.1.10 (this ip is as example, use the one you found)
    • Accept the request on your TV
    • adb install wireguard.apk
    • adb push wgcf-profile.conf /sdcard/Download/
  5. Open the new app with the white dragon
  6. Tap on the + button (if you don't have a file manager download the recommended one) and check the Download folder to find wgcf-profile.conf
  7. Once loaded, press select on the file to activate it, should be in light blue color to show it is active and show Rx and Tx data used
  8. Check if it's working by going to 1.1.1.1/help on the browser

This worked for me to use 1.1.1.1 Warp for free

Buying Advice What's the best cheap Android TV box for around 25-30$?

Hello, I'm looking to buy an android TV box on a budget, I don't need any 4k stuff since my tv only supports 1080P, Both onn and xiaomi look very good but i don't know which one to choose, i would love for one that allows installing apks and and opens websites properly because the one i have right now is too old and weak, Any help would be appreciated.

this one seems good but i don't really know how well it'll work and how long it'll last https://www.noon.com/bahrain-en/android-tv-4k-uhd-streaming-device-with-remote-control-voice-remote-google-tv-and-google-assistant-supported-ultra-hd-android-tv-box-hdmi-cable-included-high-performance-smart-tv-box-for-streaming-netflix-youtube-amazon-prime-and-more/ZAE4B60BF6B61C26B13ADZ/p/?o=zae4b60bf6b61c26b13adz-1

Discussion For those that think a certified device is better than non-certified devices. A good read on side-loading apps.

This is just a few apps that can be sideloaded that contain malware of some kind, meaning it does not matter if your device is certified or not. And all that does is it allows for paid streaming apps to work, and what if those apps have the same issues?

Discussion Looking for a specific launcher I can’t find

I used to sell my own custom Android boxes years ago and I was subscribed to a service that provides a custom launcher for my boxes. I could basically log into some kind of back end and change what apps showed up on the users dashboard, I could see a list of registered Mac’s, ban a Mac if I wanted to from starting up, it was pretty cool, ow I’m getting back into selling boxes again and I can’t remember where I got the service from

Does anyone know a service like that that will allow me to create my own custom menu from MY end and it shows up on my users boxes?

Hardware Review Dev has come along way.

Recently got my first OLED and have been really loving watching movies. Was a bit annoying realizing my Apple TV 4K with infuse wasn’t playing the best audio or video. I love the device but with the age and price increase I think having one in the house is enough. Was a much better buy at $125 last year.

I decided to order a xiaomi 3rd gen box and fire cube 3rd gen after hearing mixed reviews on both.

Was able to easily install core elec on both. Definitely took me some time but super straight forward on both. Core elec works great on both. Both have great performance too and played D7 FEL and true HD audio with ease.

The xiaomi is more expensive in the us but if offers no bloat unlike amazon. When I tried to debloat I ran into numerous issues. I would recommend just uninstalling what you can and using a custom launcher. The remote is so loud and clicks. Honestly only con. Played heavy remuxes fine on WiFi and performance was great.

Keeping fire cube because it’s $80

Xiaomi was 95
USB drive was $12
Ethernet hub was $15

If you already have the extra stuff and aren’t huge on Amazon eco system, xiaomi is my preference but the cube at $80 all in for your favorite codecs is a steal.

Buying Advice Android Tv stream boxes?

I use a fire tv and don’t really like the performance/app selection. I didn’t realize how clunky the fire tv operating system was until tds gave us the android tv/cable box. We recently tried tds which comes with an android tv box but we’re switching back to spectrum due to a really long outage that we had with tds.

I liked the setup that the tds had, specifically the larger remote as I always seemed to lose my fire tv remote but besides that I liked that I was basically able to download anything. Are there any good android tv streaming boxes that won’t break the bank?

Tips & Tutorials S0undTV Proxy Guide (To remove ads)

As some of us knows, twitch has managed to sneak ads into S0undTV if you're in certain regions. There's been a lot of discussions and half answers on how to get it all working again without any details and I figure I could write a quick(!) guide to help you along.

Note: I say quick because I won't go into all the nitty gritty details of each app that we'll use in this process. I'll put in some general gotchas when we get to those apps, but it'll be up to you to Google if you need to troubleshoot.

Checking which version you have

If the version you have installed is from the Play Store, it won't work. To check, go into Settings -> Settings (yeah i know) -> Application Info and read the field that says build_variant. If it's not standalone, you'll need to begin by uninstalling the app first.

Getting the standalone version

You'll need to grab the standalone APK from Github https://github.com/S0und/S0undTV/releases/download/v1.5.10x/S0undTV_v1.5.10_143_standalone.apk

You have 2 choices on how to do this. 1. Download it on your phone and transfer it to your device 2. Use a browser on the device itself to download it.

Personally, I downloaded it on my phone, and used the app "Send Files To TV" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yablio.sendfilestotv) to send the file over. Yes you'll have to give it an uncomfortable amount of permissions for it to work. I just make sure to delete it or manually revoke all permissions once I am done each time.

Installing the APK

I use the app File Commander (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobisystems.fileman). You will have to manually go into the app's permissions and give it file access to all files. Otherwise, you will not see the APK file while browsing in the app.
Give it permission to install unknown apps as well when it asks.

Changing to the beta

Go to the permission of the newly installed S0undTV app, and allow it to install unknown apps. Then open the app and go to Settings -> Settings -> Updates. Inside, click on the "install beta" option. It should start to download and ask you to install it.

Setting up the proxies

Now, if you're running the correct version, inside Settings -> Settings -> Proxy Server, you should see 3 custom proxy entries for you to enter URLs for the proxies. There's a list of proxies here for you to choose from https://wiki.cdn-perfprod.com/v1/must-read/proxies .
The important thing here is the format of the URLs, let's take the proxy https://eu2.luminous.dev as an example. Inside S0undTV, we need to put it as https://eu2.luminous.dev/live/${channel}?allow_source=true&allow_audio_only=true Then hit OK once you're done, and make sure to choose one of your configured proxies as the active proxy before you leave the screen.

Constant "reconnecting" or stream doesn't load

Double check to make sure that the proxy you're using is up and operational.
Perfprod status page: https://status.cdn-perfprod.com/

Luminous status page: https://stats.uptimerobot.com/N2pVRCZAjg

If everything was done correctly, you should now be back to being ad-free using S0undTV!

I hope this helps!

I wrote this somewhat hastily, and may come back to clarify it when I have time.

Buying Advice Onn 4k Pro (2026) or Fire Box 3?

Hey all! I just picked up the Onn 4k Pro today and mostly happy, although having minor issues with Moonlight streaming, but I have found that the Fire Box 3 can be rooted and essentially be set up in a similar way, and with a trade in might come out to like $70. I'm mostly looking at Smarttube, Jellyfin, and Artemis/Moonlight.

Tips & Tutorials Android TV shows ads over HDMI input (Tv Smart Xion 43")

Hey folks, how are you doing? I hope you're doing well because I'm GREAT, damn it. You have no idea how satisfying it was after an entire day of battling to figure out WHY my TV was showing ads while I was using my PS3 or my PC through HDMI!!??

This post is for everyone who had the exact same problem on a "Wisdom Share Smart Cloud TV" running this operating system.

Here are the steps that worked for me.

• Source > Settings > Advanced Settings > Auto Standby (Off)

Uninstall Visi ART. This is a manufacturer app. If it lets you uninstall it, just do it, don't even think twice, because on newer Wisdom models you apparently can't.

Now here comes the complicated part. Let me explain: these TVs come with some extremely crappy Chinese Android TV knockoff, so several developer options are disabled from the factory. The settings menu is very barebones and customized through an APK, meaning it's not the typical Android settings menu. You will never find "Build Number" or "Developer Options," so you can't uninstall system apps the traditional way you would on Google TV or other systems.

Things you need

You need a laptop/computer that can run ADB:

https://developer.android.com/tools/releases/platform-tools

ADB Auto Enable APK:

https://github.com/mouldybread/adb-auto-enable/releases

Finding the Factory Menu

You need to find the Factory Menu. The exact steps vary depending on the version of the TV's system, so look up how to access it for your specific model.

I'll leave here the result from the AI that helped me a lot:

🛠️ Attempting to access the Engineering Menu (Service Menu)

These TVs use inexpensive mainboards such as the TP.MS358.PB801 or TP.SK506S.PB802, which have a hidden service mode.

Try these combinations with the remote:

Method 1 (the most common): Press the Menu (or Settings) button and, without releasing it, quickly enter 1, 1, 4, 7. The code is usually 1147.

Method 2: Press Source + 1, 1, 4, 7.

Method 3: If you have a Picture Settings or Sound menu, try entering 2, 0, 0, 8 while inside that submenu.

The one that worked for me was going into the menu, leaving the selector on Assistant, then pressing Menu and entering 1 1 4 7. I'm not completely sure about the exact sequence, though.

There are more methods, but you can find them on Russian forums about Wisdom TVs, and at that point it's already way too damn hardcore.

Then, in:

Factory Menu > Debug > ADB Enable

If you made it this far, that's a huge win. Since there is no Wireless Debugging or anything like that, you don't need anything else regarding permissions, at least in my case.

Connecting through ADB

Both the computer you're going to use and the TV need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Then you need to have the ADB Auto Enable app installed on the TV. Open it and it will show you your IP address.

In my case, it was:

192.168.100.132

Use only that information. Do NOT use the ":9043" part.

Now go to your computer and download the SDK Platform Tools for Windows from:

https://developer.android.com/tools/releases/platform-tools

Go to your Downloads folder, extract the ZIP, then inside the program folder, Shift + right-click and open PowerShell in that folder.

Run:

.\adb connect 192.168.your.ip

If everything went well, it should tell you that it connected.

If not, try:

.\adb devices

Finding the apps you want to remove

Now you need to find the package names of the apps you want to uninstall. You can take advantage of the preinstalled apps or remove whatever else you want.

To see the package names (which are NOT the same as the app's displayed name), I recommend X-plore.

Go to:

Left window > Applications > System

Find the app you want to remove. Under its name, you'll see something like:

"com.example.something"

If you can't do that, you can run:

.\adb shell pm list packages > packages.txt

Once you've found the package name of the app you want to remove, you can disable it first if you're afraid of breaking something:

.\adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.example.launcher

Or you can uninstall it, which would be the more efficient option, because who knows if the app might get re-enabled after a system update or something. I wouldn't put it past these TVs.

.\adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.example.launcher

Now here's the important part:

.\adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.cvte.tv.pictorial

.\adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.metax.browser.cvte

Those are the main suspects I've identified.

At least in my case, after doing all of this, I never had the problem again.

I'm sharing this information because I genuinely went through hell dealing with this. Friends who know a bit about technology were watching me play on my PS3 and seeing ADS ON THE GAME SCREEN like:

"WTF?? Ads in-game on a PS3??"

Hopefully you guys never have to deal with this after following these steps.

Another alternative that I don't like as much, because it defeats the whole point of switching between HDMI and the TV itself, is to disable the Wi-Fi.

And I don't mean just disconnecting it. Forget every Wi-Fi network on the TV, because after turning the TV off and on again, Wi-Fi gets enabled again, and some manufacturer app can start running in the background and display ads.

Hope this helps 🤑
