The Dream Collector, Arthur Tress, 1971-1974 [Hasselblad 500C, 50mm f/4, Kodak Tri-X]
Between 1971 and 1974, American photographer Arthur Tress shifted away from traditional straight street photography to explore the internal world of his subjects. He interviewed children about their recurring dreams and nightmares, then collaborated with them to stage these surreal, psychological portraits using his medium-format Hasselblad camera. The project was published as a seminal photobook titled The Dream Collector in 1972, exploring themes of childhood anxiety, isolation, and the subconscious mind.
