What even is Liberty Biberty? It seems to be some sort of a demonic tulpa created by the meat head actor who couldn't pronounce the name of an insurance company.

Biberty by a mile.
The whole "Actor is so oblivious and can't say Liberty Mutual" bit got old after the very first one.
So making an ad campaign character based on him saying "Liberty Biberty" is extra stale.

Commercials have almost never made me want to buy something, but plenty have made it so I'd never buy from certain places.
48
u/wednesdaynightwumbo 3d ago
Most advertisements aren’t intended to get someone to buy something immediately. They’re top of the funnel, awareness and consideration campaigns. It’s to get people thinking about their product and talking about it, like we are doing right now.
8
u/Azrael11 3d ago
I gotta give credit to JG Wentworth. I have no reason to use their services, but years later and I know that if I ever have an annuity and I want cash now, I call JG Wentworth at 877-CASHNOW. Has to be one of the most effective commercial campaigns ever.
18
u/narf007 3d ago
I swear marketing is its own self-perpetuating lie since they can make any abstract kpi possible show it's successful. The goalposts can be whatever they want. Even if sales don't scale proportionally "awareness has gone up!"
That's my real tinfoil hat theory.
Honestly, it's a genius fucking racket.

But if you're thinking and talking about how much you hate it, that's going to make people LESS likely to buy it.

If you watch sports, you will see four types of ads, almost exclusively - insurance, drugs, cars/trucks, gambling. Every commercial break, you're getting one of each. They just mix up the order. Impress your friends. If you've had the first three, tell them the next ad is the fourth and you're more than likely right. Yep. One talks about what they believe and want to do if they get elected, the other pushes egregious rumors and ad hominem attacks against the first.

Weird, in my state both candidates exclusively run attack ads (that are full of lies), or ads that are full of lies about their "accomplishments."

Like wtf are you even doing with my data?
7

The four ad categories OP mentioned are outbidding the ads that would be more tailored to you personally via collected data
So your data is still being collected, just into the aether and sold to advertisers who are being outbid

I only watch NHL streaming, and literally every single commercial break last night started off with that stupid fucking Kalshi sub sandwich commercial.

First two, every break.

Have you stopped watching TV? Cause there are like six commercials now on tv. Channel doesn’t matter time of day doesn’t matter. There are six commercials
14
u/grahag 3d ago
Yeah, this ad has me actively DISliking Liberty Mutual and I would not consider them for insurance because of how annoying their ads are. Chances are good their company is annoying to deal with as well.
3
u/AJ_Deadshow 3d ago
I got them since it was between them and Geico as the cheapest rates when I compared on Jerry, and they are quite easy to use. Insurance policies are customizable as you go so you're not locked into anything. I feel like the ads are less annoying now that I'm with them. I even find myself singing the "liberty x4" jingle randomly sometimes lol
2
u/grahag 3d ago
There must be a threshold for appreciation of the ads, because I am WAY past that and immediately scroll angrily away when their loud-ass ads come up repeatedly. It's worse on add supported TV channels where the add plays on EVERY commercial rotation.
I use an insurance broker so I just get the features I want with the coverage and price I'm willing to pay and my broker just deals with it and sends me the card. I have told him I don't want Liberty to be in the list of choices though.

The dad joker in me was proud, but I also wanted to vomit while laughing. It still gets mentioned now 6 years later anytime that damned jingle comes on the TV.

These wouldn't air if they didnt work. The power of repetition, repetition, repetition.
Apply directly to the forehead.
4
u/Jacket_Jacket_fruit 3d ago
Yeah marketing people say that, but it's not true. Making people remember your brand doesn't matter if what they remember is that they HATE it.
Case in point: I have shopped for insurance probably 4 times since those commercials started. Every single time, I actively AVOIDED even checking Liberty mutual because I fucking HATE those commercials. If every other car insurance company on earth rejected me for coverage, I would choose to stop driving before I gave them my business. They could be literally ten times cheaper than anyone else, and I STILL wouldn't go with them, because there is quite literally no punishment on earth severe enough to make up for them inflicting those commercials on the world. If I found out tomorrow that EVERYONE involved in those commercials had been sentenced to life in prison, it still wouldn't be even remotely close to being enough of a punishment.
But yeah, that repetition, repetition, repetition sure does work.
Nah, in reality, probably some dickhead executive thinks those commercials are amazing and refuses to let them die no matter how much his team show him the numbers. It has that vibe.

So story, not abiut the emu and Doug but just the commercials where they are on a boardwalk with lady liberty in the background…my dad would see those and say “someday I’m going to go to that exact spot.” I told him, I’ve been to NYC and liberty island and there is not spot like that. Several years later he finally goes to NYC and spends a bunch of time looking for that spot, ultimately failing of course. He then drove out towards Long Island to eat at a noodles and co. I can’t even believe how shallow and commercial his visit was. I did convince him and my mom and check out Central Park and an actual restaurant on a subsequent visit.

u/Shenaniboozle 2d ago
They had one ad, ONE, that I felt was not just not just tolerable, but actually good.
I know, I know, statements like that get blocks, and Reddit cares on you, but hear me out.
It was just Doug, no stupid emu.
For saving people so much money, Doug is given the key to the city. Of course it’s a giant, comically huge skeleton key.
This dipshit doesn’t even say anything, just clips this gigantic key to his belt, and immediately begins marching down the steps, like an asshole, dragging this massive hunk of metal behind him, clanking and thumping over every step.
Now, I’m ok with that one. But there’s just too much low effort dogshit that liberty has pumped out. They should never be allowed to put more ads anywhere, and the people responsible for that trash should be hunted for sport.

They have to spend exorbent amounts on advertising because there actual service is shit. I have to work with HOIs every day for my job and Liberty mutual is definitely one of if not the worst to deal with. They don't respond to claims, return payments and or cancel coverage for presumably no reason. That being said I've not personally ran into an HOI that didn't suck to some degree.

u/AngledLuffa 3d ago
I mean... it's substantially better than online sports betting ads, or some woman who looks like her only assets in life are what she was paid for this ad telling me how scared she is that the billionaire tax will eventually affect her too.
Also, Paxton might want to cut social security and medicare and is ridiculously corrupt even by Texas GOP standards, but there might be a trans athlete somewhere in Texas, so don't you dare vote for Talarico

I don’t think blocking ads seems to do very much as it is, I’m also having to do it a lot with the ai voiced mobile game ads but hopefully it effects the algorithm at least a bit

I never see these in what I watch (basically just YouTube).
My biggest hate ad was the Xero ads--they've stopped doing those and switched to normal ones, maybe because no one had any idea what they were selling originally, but I have not forgotten who they were and what they did. It's a good thing for them I'd never have need of those services because I'd never use Xero.
My current big one is the Black Mirror car tracker thing, which I mute every time. I hate it for its extremely obnoxious writing but also for the Black Mirror content they're pushing. There's nothing not to hate.
My other hate ads are all political ads, including Democrats (to a lesser degree), but those are temporary.

Liberty Mutuals ads are trying to build their own cinematic universe with all the characters they have at this point.
