I agree. Using a future offensive tackle in HS or possibly beyond as your RB to win games in peewee is doing that child absolutely no good.

You’re not developing him as a future player that can succeed, you’re feeding your own ego as a coach.

A good coach would put him at tackle and run everything behind him so he grows as a blocker.

Pffft.

This kinda play happens so rarely it doesn’t stunt anyone’s growth as a player. There will be hundreds and thousands of other plays in the future to “grow as a blocker”.

Getting a touchdown as a big guy is amazing.

I agree. But situationally, he could be used at the goal line or 3rd and 1, 4th and one like Mike Ditka did with Refrigerator Perry in the 1985 season. He was used as both blocking and running back.

This.

The league they’re playing in has to be Pop Warner, which means all of these kids are between 10-12 years old.

The fault is split between two parties: 1.) it’s on the coach for playing a 300-350 lb child at HB, and 2.) it’s on the league for not getting the County involved in whatever is going on at home that has allowed him to
become a beacon for child obesity.

We could blame the “parents” but it’s safe to say a 300+ lbs 12 year old’s parents are absent at best.

Not sure how other peewee leagues work, but in my area there’s a weight limit for both 8-10 yr olds and 11-13

It’s safe to assume this league doesn’t have a weight limit (11+ Pop Warner has no weight limit).

Pop Warner has height and weight limits. Boys & Girls Club was where us big boys went.

Looks like the weight limits are geo-based. There’s no weight limit for 11 & up at my local chapter, but YMMV.

Hard disagree. Training at running back at a young age will teach that kid footwork and agility that will help when he settles in as an O/D lineman. A lot of pro linemen played soccer as a kid, and that footwork is specifically one of the things that makes them great

If he gets athletic ability as he gets older. Right now it's all size. Ain't going nowhere near the NFL if he doesn't get some athletic ability

He’s outrunning all the skinny fast kids. Safe to say he’s athletic

Because he is four times their size and hit puberty before them? Doesn't really show any athletic ability here besides running in a straight line
