Discussion The way Chris Hanson is going on a PR crusade trying to control his image is ironically making him look even more like the inaccurate portrayal of him In primetime he is fighting against

1.7k Upvotes

I cannot get over the fact that the real chris Hanson is going to theaters and approaching audience members and telling them he’s not really like that. It’s almost meta. All I can imagine is Robert Pattinsons portrayal of him going apeshit over the film, completely missing the point, and thinking that individually convincing everyone who see’s it that he isn’t an obsessive egomaniac is the sane and normal thing to do.

Edit: I feel like i shouldn’t have to say this but I in no way disapprove of Chris Hanson’s work nor do I side with predators of children. I just think it’s funny that he is making himself look as self obsessed and worried about his likeness as Pattinsons portrayal did. I also used the word “inaccurate” on purpose.

Discussion Naomi Ackie, who had a wonderful performance in A24's Sorry Baby last year, is doing an AMA/Q&A in /r/movies, for anyone interested.

I organized an AMA/Q&A with Actress Naomi Ackie, who had a wonderful performance in A24's Sorry Baby last year.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1x49fb6/hi_rmovies_james_watkins_naomi_ackie_and_tom_rhys/

She will be back at 3 PM ET this Thursday 10/15 to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

Her new film, Clayface, is out in theaters everywhere on October 23 from Warner Bros. She co-stars alongside Tom Rhys Harries (also doing an AMA).

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCR-rz0YfD4

Matt Hagen's meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when the actions of a local crime boss leave him horribly disfigured. He soon seeks out a cutting-edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self, but also affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.

Thank you :)

Discussion primetime’s humor was so fucking good

i feel like I don’t have see enough ppl talking about how funny this movie was. it didn’t try too hard to be funny, it was more satirical with it.

some prime(time) examples:

  1. when the vending machine jammed and bro called the number and said “I’m Chris hansen. your machine just stole from me.”
  2. when he gave decoy dan the bracelet and Dan said “it’s a little big.” And he said “you’ll grow into it” knowing good and well he is an full adult actor
  3. when Chris is perfecting the “when we come back…”

narration. this scene is so peak.

im thinking abt a rewatch tmrw so give me more funny things to look out for lol

Discussion if it's not on a disc what are we even doing here

honestly it defeats the whole point of collecting if a new release just stays locked to a digital file somewhere. i'd say half the reason people keep physical shelves is so you actually own the thing when the licensing rights shuffle around next year. waiting on a physical drop that never comes because everything is shifting to streaming-only is properly doing my head in.

Question Painting from Opus

Post image
27 Upvotes

I’m watching Opus for the first time right now & I can’t stop thinking about this painting from the film. It seems pretty clearly to be an abstract portrait of Ayo Edebiri, & I just think it’s so stunning. Does anyone know where I could find information about the artist? I’ve done a little Googling but found surprisingly little considering how captivated I am by it personally - I thought it would be all over the place lol. Any leads would be appreciated. 🫶🏻

Question Did anyone else feel strangely disconnected after watching "Primetime"? Spoiler

I watched "Primetime" recently, and I can't quite explain how I felt afterward. I enjoyed the movie, and there were definitely scenes that hooked me in. At some points, though, I actually wished the movie would end, only to get drawn back into the story a few minutes later. What really caught me off guard was how overwhelming some of the scenes felt, especially when real messages flashed across the screen. I found myself trying to read them, process what they meant, and connect them to the real-life episodes. But after the movie ended, I was left with this strange feeling. I could remember individual scenes, but somehow, the movie didn't feel like one complete experience. It was almost as if I'd watched a series of clips rather than a whole film. I enjoyed it, but I didn't feel emotionally connected to it. Part of me wants to watch it again, but I don't really want to spend another two hours doing that. I'm wondering whether this was partly intentional - perhaps the editing, pacing, and overwhelming amount of information were designed to make viewers feel this way. Did anyone else experience something similar? Or was I just too distracted trying to process everything that was happening on screen? I'd love to hear what you think, especially if you had a similar reaction after watching it.

Question You Can See Everything - how much knowledge of Elizabeth Holmes do you need?

I am really looking forward to this film, seeing it on Friday. But I was wondering if anyone here has seen it, or has read anything from someone else who has seen it, about how much of the history of Holmes and Theranos you need to have to enjoy the film?

All I know about Holmes is that she started some health company, that was supposed to diagnose things using your blood. She was scamming everyone the whole time, and ended up going to jail for it. Just the basics. Do I need to know more detail about her life or history, or how the the whole company folded? I know there have been other pieces of media that dive into but I'm honestly not interested unless it is absolutely necessary. Is there an article or something I should read?

I also am seeing this with someone who has literally never heard of Holmes before, and was perplexed as to why they should care when they saw the trailer.

Mostly wanting to go because of Fielder, reactions from its premiere, and A24's track record.

Thanks in advance!

Question Was the chainsaw hardware store scene in „Onslaught“ really in the movie???

Just watched the movie and really expected that scene to come but nope. They did heavy marketing on that clip where she buys the chainsaw and stuff from the hardware store. But in the version I watched it was completely missing. Or are there different cuts of the movie??

Question Primetime warmup

So I'm rewatching Primetime with my dad tomorrow but he doesn't know anything about Chris Hansen/TCAP and I wanted to find a short vid or 2 that would give him adequate context of the show without having him sit through 20+ minutes of a full episode. Anyone have any recommendations/links that I can send him so he just understands how it was shot/how Chris operates?

“There used to be a pillory in every village. Now there’s a television in every living room.”

Just think this is an interesting/timely example of art imitating life and life imitating art with Primetime having been released just a few weeks ago.

Discussion What was in the box? - Primetime

At the end of the film when Dan's neighbor brought him his mail, the neighbor said "oh wait a second, I have a package for you. Priority overnight, wow, hot shot," or something along those lines.

Am I just annoyed that they just threw in an unknown, seemingly important package and it's ignored?

Or do you guys think it involves Chris in some way?
