Gameplay/Demonstration OE-CAKE lives again. I rebuilt it for the browser: Classic interface, your old .oec files import, free, no install. Brand new life!
Hi there! if you're in this sub, you already know: the best physics toy ever made died in 2008, and nothing ever replaced it! Phyzios Studio is amazing, but it’s not quite as intuitive for anyone to pick up and play with.
I couldn't let that stand. I spent the last few months rebuilding it:
Introducing SunaBox! (sunabox.dev)
What is SunaBox?:
(Besides a pun? Sunaba = Japanese for “Sandbox”!, like “oekaki” is Japanese for “draw!” All love to Prometech and OE-CAKE!)
- A complete, clean-room reimplementation of OE-CAKE, with a brand new physics engine, that runs in your browser.
- A 1:1 recreation of the classic interface. Select Classic at the top and it's 2007 again. Same panels, same materials, as close to the same feel as I could manage.
- Your old .oec files import directly. If you still have creations from fifteen years ago, they open. I would love to see what this sub still has in its drawers.
- The classics: water, oil, rice, tar, gas, fire, steam, rubber, string, walls, wheels, the dropper. Plus some new toys the original never got: lava that quenches into stone, fireworks that bloom in their own colors, orbies (orbeez), popcorn, and more.
- And one thing 2007 could not do: the engine is bit-deterministic, so you can record a session and share it as a file that replays identically on any machine, scrubbed back and forth like video. With beautiful new visuals/shaders and enormous performance gains.
.OEC file behavior parity with the original game is around 93% by my own judgment, and this community is the world authority on the last 7%. If something feels wrong, tell me exactly what, ideally with the .OEC that shows it. (Or a .sunar replay!)
I fix feel bugs weekly and every fix ships with a test so it cannot regress. This is built with an AI pair programmer doing the math. The taste and the love are mine. Free, no account, runs in any WebGPU browser! SunaBox is for everyone who kept OE-CAKE alive in their hearts all these years. (:

Discussion How do I add Images?
I'm new to OE-Cake and I have no idea how I add images to the game. I got this mainly for that, and I'm just wondering how I am able to do so.

What am I seeing here?
I found this sub because I decided to google that nice little physics demo I have. and I recognize none of the things I am seeing....
I have version 1.1.2b copyright 2008. somewhere I have a even older version. what versions am I seeing here, if it even is the same game?

Is there any way to change the device OE Cake renders with?
I've heard from another post that it uses integrated graphics, but the tutorial to change it was for Mac. I tried changing the OpenGL device it renders with in the Nvidia control panel, but that didn't seem to do anything.
Is there any way to get better performance or to change the rendering method?

Discussion What is OE-Cake coded in?
I want to modify the user interface so that you can select all of the elements individually (like an always active mix mode) but I'd need to do some basic modification. I want to know how I can get into this games code and modify it. Please help me achieve this.
