Does the U.S. have laws preventing domestic bot farm data centers from influencing our public?

I doubt it. Even if it did do you think anyone would follow the law?

Considering corporations are people and money is protect speech here, bots probably have more rights than we do.

From your lips to flamingo's ears.

So no more cloud storage either?

What are you storing on the cloud that couldn't be stored on a drive that you own and have full control of.

My start up company's entire database going back to company inception, for one thing.

Streaming services would cease to exist. No more streaming movies, TV, games, or YouTube.

Reddit is pretty clueless sometimes.

These things already exist without the need for these mega data centers.

Lol no they don't.

No they don't. They exist because of giant data centers. That is how they work. Surprise.

Those all run on server farms not AI enabled data centers.

All data centers are "AI enabled". They are nothing but racks and racks of computers. AI can run on any of them

The AI part is the only difference. A data center is just a giant server. If it is GPU dominant, it can be used for AI and Bitcoin mining; if it is CPU dominant, it provides cloud functionality and enables streaming services.

Data centers have been part of our collective lives this entire century.

Like I said, Reddit is clueless.

Things I don't want to store at just my home.

Well SSDs got too expensive so I need cloud storage, and SSDs got so expensive because … oh, I see now. In all seriousness, I have 6TB of NAS storage and another shit-ton on my tower PC. Beyond DropBox and the $1 I pay monthly to Apple, I just can’t imagine being held hostage by companies sitting on terabytes worth of my data.

Man the average person really is that stupid huh

Cloud data centers are not the same as AI data centers. Ban all AI data centers, but maintain the cloud.

Like the ones reddit runs on? Or your email?

I feel like basic services should stay in place. But there's a difference between a server farm and a data center that runs AI services.

1

u/Mondo-Shawan 15h ago

Agreed. That is not what you said though. You said all data centers.

Like, every single one? Or just Russian bot data centers? Or AI data centers?

7

u/Mooch07 16h ago

Better all than none, I say. If those are the only two choices we get.

-1

u/InvalidKoalas 16h ago

Society would collapse if you blew up all data centers.

1

u/Mooch07 14h ago

Yea, it’s too bad humans never evolved to live without data centers!

Data center as a whole dollars little to serve the public. I would argue physical storage is far more secure and better for everyone.
