Really the differences are mainly a Reddit thing. All calicos are piebald torties, which are black and orange or grey and cream cats. The b (tabico, torbico) are for when the black/grey areas have tabby stripes. All orange/cream areas have stripes, visible or not, so cats without the stripes in the black/grey do not have a b in their coat name - however, the sub voted to allow any tricolors with visible stripes (thus the “honorary” flair). The reasoning for the tor[b/t]ico distinction is purely for appearance differentiation of large, unbroken color patches (calico/tabico) vs brindling (tor). Tortie, calico, and tabby on those are what your vet will call your cat.
Black and orange/grey and cream, generally brindled, little to no white, no stripes in black/grey = tortoiseshell (“tortie”)
Black and orange/grey and cream, generally brindled, little to no white, tabby stripes = torbie
Black and orange/grey and cream in large patches, large white areas, no tabby stripes in black/grey = calico
Black and orange/grey and cream in large patches, large white areas, tabby stripes in black/grey = tabico
Black and orange/grey and cream brindling, large white areas, tabby stripes in black/grey = torbico
ETA: If there white is in a tuxedo pattern, there’s a tuxetabico, tuxetortico, or tuxetorbico. There’s some debate on if these cats are tor[t/b]ies or [cal/tab/tort/torb]icos.

My sweet girl showed up under my house as a skinny, dirty stray two years ago. I took her inside my porch to keep her safe before her TSR appointment and we fell hard for each other immediately. I believe that I found my soul cat, the most perfect cat that I could have asked for and I wasn’t even looking to adopt!!! Thanks, Cat Distribution System!

We are hoping on catching Purr-Lee Monday morning and taking her to the Animal Birth Control Clinic for a very important vaccination and spay.
I started putting food in the trap with the door tied open on Friday to get her used to it. She moved into it immediately and was in it off and on all day Sunday. I set the trap off with a pull chord so i can target certain cats and it is the tabico Purr-Lee’s turn.
Her Mother Atsea Aurora and her sister Purrsephany have already been trapped and spayed and now it is her turn.
Atsea Aurora has kept her family together even after her spay. Purrsephany (Torbie), Purr-Lee (dilute tabico), Perry Feral (tabby) and Loki (silver tabby) hang out with their mother most every day.

Any other tabico parents have cats with congenital abnormalities? I’m mostly curious, just because I’m an information seeker at heart. Cynthia was a trapped feral, so she possibly could have been the result of inbreeding within a colony. Please share your oddball tabicos!!

I am absolutely obsessed with her still, even after living with her for 8 months now.
She was practically feral, refused pets and would run and hide if I moved at all. Now, she is so much more comfortable, sleeps next to my pillow, and cuddles with me!! Im so proud of her and cannot stop showing pics of her to literally everyone I meet. She has brought so much joy into my life and I'm really happy to have brought some safety, security, and love into hers.

This is my childhood girly Callie, 2003 - 2015. We called her a tabico when I was growing up since she was mostly gray tabby but had tiny orange spots throughout her coat, including on her forehead. Does this count as dilute tabico? If not, what was she?
