2026 has been packed. What's been your favorite game this year?

There's been so many great games that came out this year, and I was hoping to see what the community has enjoyed the most thus far. I've been kind of toying with the idea of trying out (in no specific order) Crimson Desert, Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, Silver Pines, Control Resonant, Pragmata, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Pokemon Pokopia and a few others, but... that's a lot of games.

What did you guys enjoy the most this year?

Edit: Oh no, the first four posts have all been completely different games. Guess that's a testament to how great this year has been.

[PC] Looking for a game that I can sink hours into with rewarding loot

Destiny 2 is kind of dead but I miss playing for hours and finding rare loot/completing long quests to get a specific reward. I've heard ARPGs like diablo 2 or monster hunter world could be good for this, but I've never played a traditional ARPG. Would one of these scratch that itch? Any other recommendations?

[Other] Recommend me a good detective/logic game

• Upvotes

I absolutely love logical deduction/detective/mystery games. Case/Rise of the Golden Idol, Obra Dinn, Chants of Sennaar, Outer Wilds (my favorite game of all time). Even a game like Tunic has some mind blowing logical discoveries.

I’ve tried a few others and they just didn’t quite scratch the same itch. Blue Prince and Seance of Blake Manor come to mind. Solid games but not quite for me.

Anyone have any other recommendations? I’m sure some things have come out more recently that would be up my alley (heard something about this Roottrees game, maybe that’s good? Dunno)

[PS5] Ace Combat 8, Control, or Galactic racer? Which one will be most expensive longest?

I understand there's no way to predict this, but based off of past patterns what do you all think? I definitely plan to play all 3 eventually, but with GTA6 coming I'd prefer to not buy two full priced games within a month. I'm torn between these 3 so figured that should be the tie breaker!

AC8-I have loved ace combat games since the PS2 era. I seem to remember buying 7 for around 40 a while after it had been out, but dont recall if it ever really got lower/found its way on PS+

Control Resonant - Control was such a pleasant surprise to me when I found it on PS plus. It was one of the games that I played that I feel really showcased the PS5 and my Samsung TV could do. Not only was the first on ps+, but i feel like other games from that dev have landed on ps+ in a reasonable time frame l.

Galactic Racer - its been a long time since I've played a good face paced, chaotic arcade-y racer. Obviously the nostalgia factor is there, but the gameplay seems tight, and I'm intrigued by the premise of the campaign. I feel like star wars games are hit or miss with discounts/ps+.

[PS5] Dragons Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, Control Resonant or Crimson Desert?

Trying to pick out a game to ask for Christmas and have narrowed it down to these three.

I like open world action RPGS so all fit my preferences but from what I can tell the strengths are:

Control Resonant: Best story telling/plot of the three with most creative visuals and environments.

Dragons Dogma: Biggest emphasis on big monster encounters and boss fights.

Crimson Desert: Sheer variety and quantity of things to do.

I also have a base PS5 so let know about anything to do with performance I should know about

Should I get Star Wars Zero Company if I enjoyed Baldurs Gate 3?

I really love Star Wars and like many fans have been waiting for another good game from them and I hear Zero Company has a really good story and focus a ton on it. But there are 2 things I hear- its a strategy game I have never played one of those before but the gameplay looks similar to Baldurs Gate 3 and I loved that. The other thing I have heard is the game is very hard I like playing video games but im really bad at them and often play on easier modes so I can actually play and enjoy it the reason im asking is because I heard even just normal mode is very hard so is easy mode very hard as well?

[PC] should i buy galactic racer or control resonant?

they both look great but i can only afford one right now, i was planning on getting control resonant but then galactic racer came out. i haven't played the first control but i was hoping that wouldn't matter, although i guess i could also buy the first one. i think i'm slightly leaning towards galactic racer since it has multiplayer, although i'm a little bit worried that it's going to die

[PC] Mortal Shell 2 or Wuchang?

I'm just coming off GoW Ragnarok and Dragons dogma 2: Dark arisen, and now I'm itching for a soulslime. I've narrowed it down to Mortal Shell 2 and Wuchang Fallen Feathers, but both games have some pros and cons. I'm not sure what to think of Wuchang since that one patch seemed to change it so dramatically and all I know of mortal shell 2 is that you can make enemies dance. Which one should I get?

[PC] Should I buy Fallout 76?

So Fallout 76 has just gone on sale on Steam for $7.99, and I'm considering if I should buy it or not. I mean, I have played Fallout 4 and Fallout 3, and I've even beaten Fallout: New Vegas, but I still wanted to ask other people's opinions because I know the game is pretty mixed, so I'm just curious.

EDIT: I may reconsider buying it now since I didn't know it was 90GB.

[PC] SIB Galactic Racer if I..

don't like Rougelike mechanics? I am all for racing and speed, this game seems to scratch the itch for something like NFS:HP. However, not fan of Rougelike games, like how it is implemented in Hades and similar games, but I am not sure how the mechanic is implemented in Galactic Racer, I am ok to repeat the match to learn the track better to get 1st in the race, but I don't like to be helpless because of forced Rougelike mechanics.

[PC] Star Wars Galactic Racer for 20% off

The game is 20% off according to isthereanydeal and I've been eyeballing it since launch, but I've also heard that the game is lacking content and that most people should wait for a sale. Anyone whose played it semi-extensively have opinions on that? Is 20% off a big enough sale to warrant the purchase for the content on offer? And how competent is the singleplayer element, or is it hard carried by the multiplayer side of the game?

EDIT: Also how is the campaign? Is it an actual story mode w/ characters and... Well... A story, or is it more like old school racing games where it's just a vehicle to put you through stages?

EDIT 2: I bought the game.

[PC] Should i buy the long dark?

I'm torn on TLD, a lot of reviews, good and bad, say that this game is straight up ass. But others say that it's really good?

I'm trying to reach out to people who actually played most of what the game has to offer and can actually give me a good rundown of what to expect buying any version/dlc of it.

[PC] Looking for cute adventure games on Steam that can run on my low-end laptop

Hi everyone! 😊

I'm looking for game recommendations on Steam that can run on my low-end laptop.

My specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-1035G1
  • GPU: Intel UHD Graphics
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • SSD: 256 GB

I'm looking for something cute, cozy, or visually charming, but with a little more depth than a simple casual game. I'd love some adventure, exploration, an interesting story, puzzles, or a sense of progression.

I enjoy beautiful atmospheres and games that make you feel immersed in their world. I'm open to different genres as long as the game isn't too demanding for my PC.

What would you recommend? I'd really appreciate suggestions that run well on integrated graphics, preferably with good performance on low settings.

Thanks! 💗

[PURCHASED] Took the bait

I wrote a question 6 weeks ago, about wardogs and it blew up, it's linked here if you want to have a read and I felt that I needed to update all those people that had the same question, I bit the bullet and bought wardogs,(supporters editon) and for clarification and full transparency, I work full time 50+hrs a week and have 2 kids so I didn't "nolife" the game, I got on when I could and played when I could an hour here and an hour there, nothing too crazy weekends etc, at the time of posting this I have 91hrs into the game. And I'm lvl 87. And honestly thanks guys, there has been more belly laughs in the last 6weeks then I dunno when, there are a lot of you that said "get it you won't regret" and that is true the games alot of fun. That's pretty much it. I could also turn the post very dark and bitch and complain like I see so many others on here doing but, I think the devs seem to have their heads screwed on and although, it's a little rough around the edges right now I do believe in time it will be better and I look forward to season 2 and what the devs have in store for the game moving forward.

[Switch] I’m sick & stuck at home, so wanting to play a game. I’ve narrowed it down to Life is Strange True Colors or LA Niore?

For context, I’ve played almost all of the rest of the LIS games. I like adventure/story games. Both of them are $50+ so I can’t really casually buy both rn.

LA niore is something I saw in one comment on a thread of 100. I haven’t seen anyone say anything about it online. I’m not sure if it’s worth it or not!

[PC] I'm in a gaming slump.

I have tried every single competitive game to date, valorant, cs2, r6, league of legends. You name it. Although I have recently been having trouble with eye sight and want to take things to another genre of gaming. I have started to play warframe, but ive reached end game so quick I have nothing else to do. I then went on to Arena Breakout Infinite, I do love this game but there's something missing and I can't point it out. I've seen multiple games and have researched so much about Active Matter, Incursion Red River, EFT, Arc Raiders (I have AR but dont like it.) and Grayzone warfare. Im torn about which one Id choose to grind over the years.

To give you context, I like playing solo. I like looting. I like pvp, I like pve. I dont like games that has an end point that will get you bored like division 2.

I definitely do like the games i mentioned after watching a lot of it but which one do you think would be best for me. I can't decide for myself, so im asking my fellow redditors to do it for me.

[Switch] [Switch2] What Resident Evil/spooky game should I buy for spooky season?

Hi gamers. I'm wondering what game(s) I should buy for this season. There is a Capcom sale right now and Requiem is for 50€ and 7 Gold + Village is 40€.

I'm not that horror fan, but every year for October I get the urge to play something scary. Last "mainline"(?) RE I played was Revelations on the 3DS. So I'm not that well versed and could use some recommendations.

I'm also open to other recommendations like alien Isolation etc. I've played parts of Soma a couple of years back.

I'd love to play on my switch2 to cozily play in bed. I'd also love a game I can finish easily in the next month, as I'm a bit older and sadly don't have the time for gaming as I had in my youth.

Thanks in advance.

Games where choices actually matter....

What are the best games where choices actually matter. Mostly interested in cinematic games like Detroit: Become Human or turn based games like Baldur's Gate 3.

Most games that I've found that have choices don't really changes the ultimate outcome, at best it slightly changes the timing of events. I'm looking for games where choices actually change events.

Edit: I'm trying to find other games like these two, not picking between the two

[PC] I’m looking for something like a dark fantasy FPS roguelike.

I think the closest thing I’ve played to this was Void Bastards, and I loved it, but I’ve already completed it. I saw somewhere an indie FPS game that I think was coming out next year about defending castles with firearms and fighting goblins and stuff like that, and I really want a game like that. I already checked out Gunfire Reborn, but honestly I don’t like the graphic style of that game. So in general, that’s what I’m looking for: an FPS roguelike shooter, preferably one that mixes guns with fantasy creatures.

Dragons Dogma 2 + Dark Arisen DLC

Hey y'all, I have had my eye on this after seeing some of the reviews on the DLC. I was originally interested in the base game but stayed away after the initial reviews. However, it seems like there have been quite a few improvements since then, and the DLC has been a win. Would you recommend purchasing the base game + DLC now as a new player?

For context, my favorite games are primarily soulslikes and grind heavy looters. Story doesn't matter as much as gameplay, so just looking to see how the moment to moment combat and exploration feels, along with things like enemy variety?

[PS5] [PS5] Should I but the Madden 27 and the College Football 27 bundle for 70$?

Before anyone ask me, will I play them both? Yes, absolutely I will! But I am questioning whether or not I should buy the bundle for 70 because like, what if one of the games goes on sale for a good price, and would the bundle or each game be cheaper during black Friday? Because usually sports games go for half off during black Friday, so now I am not sure what to do lmao.

[PC] Games that feel like the SECOND time you're playing dark souls

Im not necessarily looking for a souls-like, but for games like bloodborne, ds triolgy, elden ring etc obviously the first playthrough is fun af, but when you replay them, you can extract a different type of enjoyment out of them that you hadn't experienced before. Im looking for that fond feeling of replaying ds1 for the first time and finding out about all of these cool details, shortcuts, you can buy x armor/weapon from y merchant, experimenting with spells, trying to find cheesy ways to beat the bosses.

A specific characteristic of these games imo is that they have a perfect amount of depth. They're not too convlouted with a bunch of randomized or irrelevant stats on every single weapon you find and way too many useless mechanics just for the sake of bloating the game.

For example, bloodborne has very few weapons compared to many other rpgs, but almost every single one of them is filled to the brim with interesting little quirks and unique features that makes it worth to go through the game multiple times. But at the same time, they're not entirely different to the point that you have to basically relearn the game.

Im not talking about dmc or ninja gaiden type of depth where you have to utilize irl reflexes and skills, as fun as that can be, im talking about the type of depth where info and experience is your best friend.

Salt and sanctuary is a good example of what im talking about. Even though i didn't finish it because i didn't like the artstyle and how the game felt that much, when i was first playing through it i could just feel there is so much shit i hadn't figured out yet and would be worth to try out later with all of these covenants and spells and whole ass bosses tucked away in a random corner.

A game like khazan is NOT the type of game im looking for. Because even though the combat was very fun, the game overall felt shallow af and there was nothing beyond the combat. Why would i start over from scratch if the only incentive are the weapons that i can use on a ng+ anyway if i respec.

Divinity kind of perfectly fits this description, but it was so huge that it felt kinda daunting so i have put that one off for now.

Also i have already played lies of p, armored core 6 and other fromsoft souls-likes except nightrein.

[Switch] Looking for that Nintendo magic

I have a switch 2. I’ve played BOTW and TOTK Bonanza. Also played Mario odyssey, Metroid prime and the FF7 remake games. I want a game which has that Nintendo sauce whereby I feel like I’m playing something truly magical.

Doesn’t have to be a Nintendo exclusive - welcome any recommendation.

I also have a ps5 pro so have played third party titles like Re9R on that.
