Crime Post Haverford professor accused of sending antisemitic threats to a colleague is detained until trial

Prosecutors allege Ha’s posts also exposed his colleague’s home address, infant child’s name, and pictures of the home’s exterior...

The spouse and children of the colleague, who has not been named publicly, fled their home, which is in the same neighborhood as Ha’s. Ha sent more than 50 messages across the various accounts, at times threatening the colleague specifically and at others threatening Jewish people more broadly, invoking Adolf Hitler, the Holocaust, and the Oct. 7 attacks...

Despite the allegations, roughly a dozen Haverford professors across departments... came to show their support at the hearing...

“I’ve always known [Ha] as someone who is very justice oriented” and who cared for students and marginalized people, said Ahmet Tekelioglu, the executive director of CAIR-Philadelphia, a civil rights advocacy group focused on Islamic civil liberties and fighting hate speech, in a court testimony on behalf of Ha.

News Bike lane detour on Market St

Just an FYI for anyone else using JFK near 18th Street....HBO is blocking the Market St bike lane and directing bicyclists to go against traffic on JFK to get around it. As a bicyclist who will never go against traffic, this seems like a recipe for disaster. Personally, I think it would be safer to set up a temporary bike lane, but, at the very least, it might be helpful for drivers and pedestrians to be aware that bicyclists are being directed that way.

Located at North American and oxford more or less. Cat on the left in last picture. Has a collar but no info on the collar. This cat is extremely friendly. Runs up to us and sits by our door. I am wondering if anyone around here has knowledge of anyone who has lost a cat that matches the photos

Question? Anyone else seeing lots of this weed (White Snakeroot) all of a sudden in the city? .

This is the first year I noticed it in my yard, where it spread everywhere, and now I am seeing it spots all over, although primarily NW Philly.

Wondering if it is a new phenomenon or if I've just been oblivious to it.

Note that it's very poisonous so you should keep it away from kids and animals. And if you have milk-producing animals and they've been eating it, don't drink their milk!

Note that it is native, not invasive, but it is aggressive and spreads through the roots (rhizomes?)

Local Business I made a food quiz where your palate compares to other Philadelphians

Hi Map Guy here,

Made a fun little quiz to learn more about your taste preferences to see what restaurants you’d want to explore in Philly and beyond.

Very beta and work in progress, would love opinions on this and hoping to get some better artists (ideally ones that are the best parallel parking in the city iykyk) and extra eyes on this to improve the grading

Got some great starting data of over 500 Philadelphians to compare where your test buds stack up

Question? Pulsations Memories?

Hi r/philadelphia! I'm a journalist on assignment with Defector working on a story about the history of Pulsations: the infamous Delco nightclub owned by Bar Rescue's Jon Taffer. It was famous for its dancing robot, Pulsar. Please DM me if you have any memories of Pulsations--and Pulsar specifically. Would love to interview you for the article!

Crime Post Theres a fuckin thief inside of my apartment building that is stealing everyones packages

Theres a fuckin thief inside of my apartment building that is stealing everyones packages.

Look i get it porch pirates are a thing. Usps, the postal worker has the key, they leave it inside of the building securely, I get to have my item when I come home, easy.

I have lived in this building for around a year now and now all of a sudden my shit is stolen, my neighbor's shit is stolen, i'm getting emails from the landlord saying they are aware of all the shit getting stolen, I'm seeing torn up packaging discarded haphazardly in the elevator.

The vendor who sold me the item that got stolen won't give me a refund because usps marked the item as delivered so now I need to do a dispute through paypal. I got more shit coming in later this week from the usps and i'm getting all paranoid checking the tracking constantly.

I am a serious collector of rare DVDs. I blew $45 on a disc that some nimwit junkie can't even play and probably will be lucky to get $5 for on the street, and now the next cheapest copy on ebay is $100, and meanwhile I'm out $45 for at least a month while paypal considers maybe giving me my money back. In the meantime if i want the thing, I have to pay double to risk it all over again.

I'm not fucking happy man. I understand shit left on the street could wind up getting jacked but to have a thief in your own building is like having bedbugs. It leaves you feeling anxious and unsafe in the place you should feel most comfortable. If you stole my lcd soundsystem dvd fuck you.

Update. Thanks everyone for the tips. I've placed a hold for incoming packages and i'm going to file a report with the postal police tonight.

Question? Mice

Ive feel like I’ve tried everything to get rid of mice in my apartment, with steel/copper wool, foam, traps, calling pest control. Nothing seems to be working. I can’t really have a cat, Im very busy and I’m not able to really take care of one at the moment. Do I just accept living with them at this point?

They're not saying we should kill them but they're not NOT saying that either, just don't snitch:

Intentionally damaging property is a crime, but arrests are few and statistics recording the reign of terror are scant.

At the hands of a vandal, robots are helpless, unable to call authorities. That makes it difficult for police to track abuse, said Jasmine Reilly, a spokeswoman for the Philadelphia Police Department. “Unless people report it,” she said, “we won’t know anything about it.”
