Announcement Posts concerning the conflict in Israel and Palestine / Publications au sujet du conflit en Israël et la Palestine
Hello everyone,
Due to current events, we have seen many posts about the Israel/Palestine conflict, typically about protests supporting one side of the conflict or the other, or articles about some statement made by a public figure.
In ALL those posts, the comments have devolved into insults, accusations of supporting terrorism/genocide and counter-accusations of [insert violent action here]. While each post starts with something related to our sub’s subject matter, they always end up being screaming matches about something that is not even related to Ontario.
It’s important to understand that the mods in the sub cannot, and will not, police who is ‘right’ in this debate. Additionally, when a large portion of the comments violate our rules (typically Rule 3: you must remain civil), we MUST intervene. However, since they ALL devolve into screaming matches, there’s no point in even trying to maintain a discussion that doesn’t even concern the sub’s raison d’être.
As such, going forward, and for the foreseeable future, ANY post related to the conflict in Israel/Palestine will be locked even if Ontario related. If it IS related to Ontario, it will remain visible but commenting will not be permitted.
The mods would prefer not to do this, but the last few days have clearly shown that there is not realistic way to permit commenting on these posts while maintaining some form of decorum.
2026-09-22: reposted due to several recent events having posts locked.

Exploring Ontario Fall getaway
Wanting some ideas on a fall getaway with my husband & 13 month old. We originally wanted to do blue mountains as we’re about 2 hours away (we live in the gta) but are seeing bad reviews about blue mountains unless you’re skiing.
Where should we go? Trying to keep it somewhat cheap.

Question Pre-9/11 were you able to cross the border at Niagara Falls without a passport?
I remember in the 90s my parents and siblings & I would spend one weekend a year in Niagara Falls, Canada for a dance competition.
My dad & I would cross the border into the US for the day just for something to do. But I don't think we brought our passports. We just told talked to the agent and they let us through.
Am I remembering this correctly? Were you able to cross without a passport in the 90s?

Question Best ear specialist for extreme and unique ear problems?
I have seen over a dozen ENTS and at this point I'm ready to go private. My ears are so messed up basically everyone has given up or run out of options to give me, but I can't keep living in this pain day after day. I need solutions, google isn't much help (only shows nearby me or top ratings in my area). So turning to here.

Question Looking for an Ontario clinic that performs RFA for chronic back pain
Posting on behalf of my husband.
He’s had chronic back pain for 2 years. X-rays showed nothing, an ultrasound ruled out organ related issues, and an MRI showed facet joint arthritis and disc degeneration.
He was referred to a local pain clinic and has been receiving therapeutic injections of bupivacaine, a local anesthetic. Unfortunately, relief lasts only about a day before the pain returns.
We’ve asked several times about radiofrequency ablation (RFA), as a friend in the US had it done and says it was life changing. His doctor is nice, but we feel like the focus is on masking the pain rather than finding a longer term solution. He was prescribed a strong muscle relaxant for flare ups, but after just one day, it turned him into a zombie without addressing the pain. He was clear from the beginning that he doesn’t want opioids or muscle relaxants as a band aid solution. He’s also doing physio and seeing a chiro, osteopath and RMT, but these only provide a day or two of relief. We’ve been dealing with this pain clinic for about 2 months. They’ve said he is a candidate for RFA, but there’s no clear timeline or plan. Whenever we ask about next steps, the subject changes, and we’re left without answers. His current injections are therapeutic, not diagnostic nerve blocks, so we’re confused about how we’re supposed to progress toward RFA. Last week, they didn’t even order the steroid injection medication they’d previously said would be the next step. Meanwhile, he continues receiving multiple injections at each appointment, and the clinic has billed his insurance over $1,000 so far. It’s fully covered, but it’s frustrating to keep repeating treatments that provide virtually no lasting relief.
We’ve followed their recommendations and just want a clear treatment plan rather than continuing with temporary fixes.
Looking for recommendations for clinics, pain specialists or doctors who perform it. We’re willing to travel anywhere in Ontario.

Question Bike lanes on Bloor just finished in my neighbourhood last year and now they’re starting to rip them out. Has anyone looked into construction contracts and their association to the Ford government?
I really can’t fathom the amount of $$ that’s wasted on putting them in last year and ripping them back out.
They’re starting on Monday or Tuesday at Bloor and Etobicoke which definitely seems timed with people on holiday so they can’t organize to protest it.
The urgency to rip them out seems suspicious. I drive and bike down Bloor all the time and the drives never that congested.
What are people’s thoughts?

Discussion What are your thoughts on Northwestern Ontario changing to Central Standard Time, while Manitoba remains in Central DST in the winter?
Cities such as Kenora, Dryden, and Forth Francis will be an hour back of both Manitoba and the rest of Ontario in the Winter (starting November 1st).

Question Vacation recommendations?
Instead of flying to the Caribbean in November, health concerns are forcing me to consider a similar November or December vacation, in Ontario.
I am thinking of a one week all inclusive, (alcohol not required), access to a pool, hot tub, sauna and deck chairs or loungers in the sun along with a good restaurant/buffet. Dancing or live entertainment close by would be nice. Picture a Caribbean vacation without flying, all to take place indoors with maybe a few day trips to interesting places close by.
Completely unimportant to us is hiking , strenuous outdoor cold activities, motorized sport, canoeing and alcohol.
Have any of you got any suggestions I can investigate further? Your opinions appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Question Medication without Health Card
I have misplaced my wallet and have run out of one of my meds. Do I actually need my healthcard to get my medication? I pay out of pocket for it anyway. Can I just give them my passport for photo ID? I only have my healthcard and passport as forms of photo ID.

Housing Realtor and rental agent.
So why is this that we need to always have a rental agent to help with rentals? Or is it?
Why can't I go see the property and apply by myself? Is that possible? These folks are just there to make money and horrible at negotiations I feel like. What am I missing?
Edit: I'm only saying from my experience around Mississauga/Oakville/Toronto. Also, not a high end condo, just regular ones. I always thought (and was told by the agents) this is the way to go. Back in Sydney AU, we would go for inspection and then drop the application by ourselves and get the call with yay or nay. That's it.
