Assuming he rode that with family/friends that had to be horrifying to watch him hit the coaster multiple times.

854

u/Defacto_Champ 6h ago

The local news video out of Georgia on 11 alive said the son of the passenger who flew out of his seat was next to him on the ride

624

u/Sidewalk_Tomato 5h ago

Goddammit. Hard enough losing a parent, worse to have PTSD from the violence and suddenness of it happening right there next to you. And now so many people have seen it.

228

u/MarlenaEvans 3h ago

And losing them like that on a day where things were especially fun and exciting. There's no good time to lose someone but the emotional whiplash has to be horrible.

124

u/Dont-Really-Matter 3h ago

Poor kid is never going to an amusement park ever again, that's for sure.

I don't think anyone there will tbh.

138

u/Sidewalk_Tomato 3h ago

I specifically worry that he will blame himself if he was super hype to go to the park, or on the ride. He & his family are going to need so much therapy.

49

u/Dont-Really-Matter 2h ago

Dude it took me months to mentally get over a car accident that I literally did not contribute to in any way. I can't imagine how they are feeling 😢

11

u/skyerippa 1h ago

Oh god... I never even considered that...what if he begged his dad to go on with him. Im welling up

0

u/SweetandSourCaroline 2h ago

like the father/son in the OceanGate explosion…

284

u/BearHoonie 5h ago

Yea just watched the same video. The mother and daughter were at the bottom waiting. The son was next to him when he flew out. He hit a girl a few rows back.

64

u/steamyglory 3h ago

OMG the girl must have been injured too

15

u/CarlySimonSays 1h ago

That poor girl could have been killed too, how awful. We all know just from drivers' ed videos, about how unrestrained bodies in accidents can hurt others.

As someone who is small and has had trouble not feeling totally secured on amusement park rides, I don't know if I'll ever go on one of the big ones ever again. (Scariest was in middle school, when the lap bar on one of those ship rides didn't reach my legs and I had to hold on for dear life.) The nightmares are enough!

26

u/FixIndependent8094 2h ago

eyewitnesses said her white skirt was covered in blood.

6

u/MzOpinion8d 2h ago

Probably hit her face and caused a nosebleed. Absolutely unbelievable.

4

u/Penguin_shit15 1h ago

I saw a pic of it somewhere on here.. I didn't look though, just the thumbnail was all I saw, and I couldn't tell what it was.. But your description fits.

32

u/MzOpinion8d 1h ago

The 12 yr old brother of the boy who was decapitated at Schlitterbahn was waiting at the bottom of the ride when the boy’s body got to the end.

48

u/InvertedJennyanydots 3h ago

That's a horror movie scenario that his poor son just experienced in real life.. I hope counseling is immediately made available to him, though I fear Six Flags will fear that offering it is an admission of liability. I hope someone is getting the son connected to immediate therapy though. They were just trying to have a nice day as a family at a theme park. It's just incredibly sad.

36

u/hmtee3 3h ago

That child’s face is heartbreaking in the photo.

30

u/ohhhaley 2h ago

Yeah, it’s a whole other level of devastating. I feel bad saying I wish I hadn’t seen the photo, when the young man had to see his dad plummet to his death. I sincerely hope the family gets an astronomical payout after suing the park and ride manufacturer.

4

u/Coderkid01 1h ago

The manufacturer is not at fault here. This is their only fatal incident in their history if i recall. Definitely the park itself.

110

u/anaccount50 3h ago edited 2h ago

I’ve seen the photos and his son (EDIT: not confirmed that was his son, there’s another smaller person on the other side of him too) had his head turned towards him when it happened. That poor child, I really hope he gets a ton of professional help with dealing with something so terrible

19

u/Much_Discipline_7303 2h ago

I also feel for the person who sat to the right of the victim. You can see the look of pure horror on his face

6

u/anaccount50 2h ago

I figured that was his son but yeah I don’t know that for sure. Since the two people to his left seem to be facing each other I assumed that only left the one on his right as his son but I’m not sure

Edited the original comment to point out it’s not confirmed the one looking at him is his son

-5

u/Trailerparkqueen 1h ago

Can you show the picture?

17

u/anaccount50 1h ago

Sorry but no. I’m not sure if it’s against the rules (most subs seem to be removing it) and I honestly don’t feel comfortable sharing it myself.

If you really want to see it, it’s pretty widely available on certain social media platforms with less moderation

66

u/ohhhaley 4h ago

That poor boy. I cannot imagine.

1

u/SweetandSourCaroline 2h ago

how awful!!! that poor child and family. does anyone know if you sign a waiver when you get a ticket? i haven’t been as an adult. the family needs to sue.

-35

u/AverageAwndray 5h ago

Well.....yeah

2.5k

u/SweetandSourCaroline 6h ago

I am an ATlien and someone who was there / posting on the local subs said that it was very graphic and it was at the spot where it takes the photos 😭

1.4k

u/--i--love--lamp-- 6h ago edited 5h ago

There is a 99.9% chance there is video of it on the park cameras. Hopefully they will keep it off the internet. It is so sad.

638

u/BotF_Latyon 6h ago

It's usually other visitors who post the videos online

Just gotta hope nobody was pointing a camera at it in the crowd.

519

u/Krandor1 5h ago

actually one of the passengers who was on the train said the on-ride photos of them caught the man flying in the picture.

283

u/Starsbythep0cketful 4h ago

I saw it on TikTok a few minutes ago. The photo itself is not graphic. Very sad

199

u/anaccount50 3h ago edited 3h ago

It’s not graphic in the sense that you don’t see any blood or gore or anything , but it’s still pretty disturbing. Unless you’re acclimated to seeing photos/videos of people dying I wouldn’t recommend people look it up

67

u/gardenpoblano 1h ago

That’s probably the healthiest thing we can do for our mental health is NOT seek that out. Also it’s more respectful for the dead and grieving.

•

u/ghostcatzero 37m ago

Yep but curiosity is a bish

1

u/Boring-Research410 1h ago

I hear people say stuff like that regarding being respectful - im just not sure why it makes a difference - thwir game would have no way of knowing whether or not I see it

•

u/Relative_Change2335 50m ago

That’s like saying I shouldn’t care if my boyfriend shares my nudes with you because I won’t know you saw it. Not everything is for your enjoyment.

6

u/snowdn 1h ago

Yeah the horror on the other riders’ faces is pretty graphic I would say. Also his pants are coming off, very sad.

1

u/Sure_Yogurt 1h ago

i noticed that what tf happened to his pants ?

•

u/WeekendWalnut 12m ago

That specific ride keeps passengers seated with a big orange brace across the lap. However he was removed from his seat, that brace likely caught against his pants as he exited the seat.

Conjecture, but I’ve been on that ride and that’s my best guess.

55

u/NoodlesinParis 3h ago

It is extremely disturbing.

-44

u/cotton-candy-dreams 4h ago edited 4h ago

Well… it kind of is .. if you consider half exposed bare ass to be graphic

75

u/Boterfleoge 4h ago edited 3h ago

Feels a little silly to be offended by a crack given the rest of the context imo

Edit: I didn't mean to sound snarky or as though I thought you were offended by it, or that there would be anything wrong with someone finding it graphic I was just thinking aloud about what I thought about the concept

-36

u/cotton-candy-dreams 3h ago

Are you talking to me or?

26

u/Boterfleoge 3h ago

Not in particular, just pondering what i consider graphic i suppose. Your comment made me think and I responded 🤷‍♀️ sorry if I offended you

u/ConsequenceLive2442 5h ago

It's on twitter.

31

u/SC_Fan_55 3h ago

Of course it is…that dumpster fire…

2

u/Finnegan482 1h ago

The CSAM website has an uncensored photo of a man's death? Shocking

52

u/I_Am_Zampano 5h ago

Guaranteed the 17 year old working the photo booth snapped some pics of it

175

u/20_mile 6h ago

It's usually other visitors who post the videos online

The internet has insatiable need for content. Even people commenting to say "this is horrible!" feeds the algorithm.

198

u/KWilt 5h ago

To be fair, Faces of Death predates the internet by about 15 years. This isn't a uniquely online phenomenon. There's just a certain section of humanity that likes to watch macrabe things.

56

u/20_mile 5h ago

This isn't a uniquely online phenomenon.

No, of course not. but the internet makes a particular former niche topic suddenly quite accessible to everybody.

68

u/Comprehensive_Way958 3h ago

they are literally about to kill someone live by fire squad for any american to see

5

u/20_mile 3h ago

It won't happen. It will be cancelled.

1

u/Yesiamanaltruist 1h ago

Omg that’s right! I can’t believe we have devolved to this level of barbarism. I’m so ashamed of this.

0

u/Sock_Safe 1h ago

Someone forgot about the Salem witch trials. This is nothing new.

•

u/sirbloodbath 50m ago

That's a terrible take if you're implying acceptance.

4

u/jujufruit420 3h ago

What was the sound of music already rented?

3

u/TaylorSwiftsClitoris 1h ago

And public executions were popular for centuries before that.

15

u/TheShadowKick 3h ago

Yeah. I'm just not going to look up any pictures/video. That's the only way to discourage the algorithm (not that my individual contribution will make much difference, but still).

1

u/Pretend_Handle_7639 2h ago

The audience gets a vote.

Lizzie Borden, the Dreyfus Affair, and the Scopes Monkey Trial all predate the Internet by quite some time

1

u/canman7373 4h ago

Lots of people film their rides, so sure some passengers caught it. They actually could be useful to investigators.

7

u/BotF_Latyon 4h ago

Sure, but we're talking about people posting them online

122

u/reddit_username014 3h ago

My first mistake was obviously scrolling on twitter, but unfortunately I saw this reported there first - with pictures. Not only is it absolutely tragic, but people are also blaming the victim for shutting down the ride and park, among many racist comments.

People are just sick, and I sincerely hope that the family can find peace from this.

43

u/zman1672 2h ago

No yeah twitter is legit a vile place with vile people

21

u/Legal_Shock_6540 1h ago

And a loooooot of Russian bots

4

u/CarlySimonSays 1h ago

Ugh, I'm sorry you had to see that and I'm sorry for the man's family members and other visitors on that ride. You can't unsee that. :(

12

u/clarinetJWD 1h ago

Try not being on Twitter...

•

u/reddit_username014 56m ago

On it, boss.

3

u/Saorren 1h ago

i hope the selfish people doing that dont have a single thing go right for them for the next month. such a sad horrible thing to be doing/saying after a gruesom tragic accident 😑😢

3

u/MzOpinion8d 2h ago

They’re making racist comments about a white guy falling to his death?

3

u/reddit_username014 1h ago

What I saw was of a black man. I’m a bit hesitant to look it up further to confirm, and I’m not able to see the replies to you.

Regardless, the comments I saw in response to what was posted on Twitter were absolutely vile.

•

u/Relative_Change2335 54m ago

I would not have assumed he is white based on the pictures, that’s plenty enough for racists to be racist

38

u/Plane_Garbage 4h ago

A rider posted an on-ride photo of him coming out of the restraint.

7

u/IWishMusicKilledKate 3h ago

Like they just happened to be taking a photo and caught it? That’s awful.

41

u/anaccount50 3h ago

No like the ride’s souvenir photo camera caught it. The cameras on this ride fire right as you come over the final hill, so it’s not a pure coincidence

Source: grew up in Atlanta, rode this ride many many times as a kid

14

u/IWishMusicKilledKate 3h ago

Ah Jesus Christ that’s fucking awful.

4

u/Plane_Garbage 2h ago

It's the on-ride photo, like in the gift shop. And yea, they appeared in it, upside down.

141

u/roxy_dee 5h ago

Unfortunately some shots of him falling out during the ride photo are circulating ):

51

u/Mysterious-Zombie-86 5h ago

Haven't seen any video but there is pictures from it showing him falling

13

u/KateA535 4h ago

Apparently the ride photos have made it on to the internet so be careful

2

u/FixIndependent8094 2h ago

Yes. Saw it on CP uncensored before they removed it. Thought it was fake until I read it wasn't.

6

u/justageorgiaguy 3h ago

His ride photos are on FB already. He's flying out at the camera spot

13

u/FalconerAJ 5h ago

It was captured on the souvenir camera. I just saw it.

5

u/SweetandSourCaroline 2h ago

this is horror movie level awful. I hope they shut down the park and don’t do their Halloween stuff. or at least not use the big scary roller coasters.

4

u/BrooBu 2h ago

Someone on Facebook posted it for all to see in a news thread. It’s really haunting and I wish I didn’t see it.

66

u/KaptainKlein 5h ago

He was visible on the photos, they're making their rounds on social media now and it's pretty horrifying. Not gory but pretty upsetting

271

u/One-Emu-1103 6h ago

Omg that's horrible

162

u/Iamlizardhearnepurr 5h ago

It was there’s photos on x of it happening. Extremely chilling and seeing the restraint open like that on a b and m is scary.

96

u/bad-and-bluecheese 5h ago

I saw the on ride photos earlier. They're not graphic but they are horrifying

27

u/Kevin-W 3h ago

Atlanta resident here as well. The photo is horrifying and it's a huge story on the news here right now. Bear in mind that Six Flags itself has been facing a number of issues post-merge and I'm hoping this is the straw that breaks the camel's back and forces major reforms within the company from top to bottom.

16

u/fioreman 2h ago

I work nearby and drive by it on my way form work every day, around 40 minutes after it happened.

Traffic was nuts, and I saw the cars stuck on the ride getting on I-20, and didn't think much about it.

That was a fun roller coaster but I this is gonna do it for my roller coaster career.

This isn't the first death at Six Flags Over Georgia from a ride.

4

u/SweetandSourCaroline 2h ago

Nope! I went a lot as a kid and had one scare and that was it for me.

Only do the old WW2 train through the woods at Dollywood too. Just ain’t how I wanna go out. The rides just have too many places / opportunities to fail. Several years ago I was working a trade show in Orlando and someone had just died on one of those very tall / drop super fast rides.

70

u/akingwithnocrown 6h ago

What is ATlien? Sorry just never heard of that before

137

u/OkEducation12 5h ago

Someone from Atlanta. It’s a reference to an OutKast album.

33

u/akingwithnocrown 5h ago

Thank you! Never heard of this so appreciate it.

8

u/shelli1206 3h ago

Fellow ATLien here. I appreciated this reference. I went to a very early OutKast concert back in the day in 1996 at the Fox Theatre. Best concert ever!

2

u/SweetandSourCaroline 2h ago

That’s awesome!! I saw Big Boi / Dungeon family at the East Lake Gold pre-tournament party (tickets were $10!) and met Andre 3000 at R. Thomas once lol.

12

u/Firerrhea 5h ago

Pronounced ay-tee-el-ian for ATL

0

u/McBurger 3h ago

ATlien would just be ay-tee-lien

You’re thinking of ATLien

2

u/mallclerks 6h ago

Atlanta they meant.

-10

u/BaoZaker 4h ago

Nobody from Atlanta actually calls themselves this btw.

10

u/ohyeaher 4h ago

um yes we do

3

u/cheesenkush 4h ago

“Out of this world, Are you alien?”

2

u/dinosaurkickdrop 6h ago

I was confused for a second because ATLiens are an edm dj group and I was confused lol

208

u/OceanRacoon 6h ago

This is Outkast erasure and I refuse to sanction it

6

u/horseydeucey 4h ago

erasure

No, that's a different band.

16

u/Ok-Buffalo-2340 5h ago

Absolutely horrific. ☹️

5

u/mmilthomasn 3h ago

His son with next to him and had it see it, wife and other child on the ground by the ride. 😔

4

u/b_chan 2h ago

Apparently his son was sitting next to him when it happened 😞

2

u/ChaosM3ntality 1h ago

There was even an FB post where one of the riders and their friend got blood splashed on their leg and face
