New Rule - No Non-Adobe Presets

Good morning, afternoon, evening; upon review of the recent drama and the reality is that your mods are human with day jobs. We will no longer be allowing posts about presets that are not free for all in the discover tab of Lightroom.

Ongoing discussions in this sub about presets turn into a nightmare each time. There are other subs that will be more suited for non-Adobe preset discussion.

Processing Question RAW photos appear correct in previews until I click them and they turn dark.

Recently, when I import RAW photos into Lightroom from my Sony A1, all appears normal at first. When I click on one, though, they go super dark and I need to lift the shadows and exposure almost two stops to get it back to how I shot it, and how the RAW preview looks. The photos are also a lot more contrasted after clicking on them as well.

I've never had problems with this before, but recently I started shooting more video on my camera. My only thought is it may have something to do with the "Gamme Display Assist" setting for SLOG3 footage. But, I thought this was not supposed to have any effect when shooting photos? Does anybody have an idea on how to stop Lightroom from making these changes upon clicking on the photos?

I've attached a screenshot to hopefully show what I mean below. The photo selected was shot at the exact same exposure as all of the other photos you see in the previews, but has gone dark and contrasty upon clicking on it.

I used to be a great sub that people were able to discuss presets they loved and trade presets. I want to say it was called preset paradise? Anyone know of it? Or know of a sub similar to it?

Workflow Switch from Lightroom to Apple Photos?

I’m a very casual hobby photographer and just haven’t been able to become proficient in using Lightroom Classic. I’ve actually stopped hobby photography entirely because I find LR Classic so overwhelming and burdensome 😔 Then the price of my Adobe subscription increased 50% and it just seems like a bad financial decision to keep paying for a software I don’t use and don’t like. What if I switched back to using Apple photos for importing my photos like I did 5 years ago when I started photography? I think I only switched from Apple photos to LR Classic because the photography course instructor at a local class wanted me to start shooting RAW. If I switched back to Apple photos, would I continue to shoot in RAW? I don’t have a great understanding of why RAW vs JPEG. I have Sony a7c which is a full frame mirrorless if it matters. I just want to have my photos on Apple photos again so I can text to my mom, email to a friend, save to iPhone favorites, or occasionally print or share on social media. I don’t generally edit my photos too much other than sometimes shadows, contrast, or saturation. Thoughts? I really miss photography. Also, in case ppl are mean since it’s Reddit 🙃, yes I’ve watched many YouTube videos and even took an actual class on LR Classic. It’s just not intuitive, and I don’t use it frequently so it’s like learning it all over again when I go to use it. I have very limited free time as a single working parent which plays into this too. Thank you!

HELP - Lightroom Newbie needing help!

When I’m looking through my photos and choosing which ones to keep and lose, I delete them but then they’re just greyed out and it leaves the workspace very cluttered I know I can filter them to just see the “picked” ones, but can I get rid of them all together?
All help appreciated! Thanks

HELP Presets never look right?!

My presets never seem to work and are mainly unusable. I’ve bought and downloaded a few different packs of presets, loaded them into lightroom and they always just look ridiculous when I apply them to my RAWs. I have about 4 out of hundreds that work and I just stick to them. I have tried using others and massively ajusting the preset to fit but it just seems pointless by the time I’ve fiddled with them that much. I kinda just thought that I had bought the wrong ones… until recently

I uploaded a photo i had taken on my iPhone into lightroom and went to apply my usual preset that works but checked the others and pretty much ALL the presets in the different folders looked good! Some not my style but they all “worked”. This made me think I’ve made a mistake with my uploading or processing with the presets or something in the settings that’s making them not work with my raws.

This is further reinforced because I’ve just opened a couple of my raws in “camera raw” on photoshop rather than Lightroom and …low and behold…the presets all work.

Why aren’t they working in Lightroom 😭😭😭

Tldr: presets don’t work in Lightroom on my raws but in photoshop camera raw they work fine and on iPhone heic files in Lightroom

Edit: appreciate from this post I might sound like I have no idea how to use Lightroom but I’ve been a professional photographer for about 7 years and work mon-fri with a fully booked diary. I don’t need to learn how to use the basic settings of Lightroom 🤣❤️ I’m always learning how it works because no one taught me but I have a decent understanding of how it and presets work

I was just looking for advice on why the two systems are prosessing the same image different 🫶🏻

Workflow New machine to run Lightroom classic

Hi All –

Seeking help from this community.

I need to buy a new machine (Mac) to be able to process my 48MB raw files from my Nikon D850.

I have been looking to buy a used Mac mini M4 pro, but just saw the new Mac mini M6 for less money and I’m wondering if the Mac mini M6 with
12-core CPU / 12-core GPU / 32GB RAM will be able to process an import and workflow of several hundred images off a card without a spinning pinwheel… Or do I have to go back to the M4 pro?

Also – for anybody who has yet to purchase, not sure about renewals, but Amazon is currently running Lightroom/Lightroom classic for $69.95 for a year.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for fixing this, Adobe, even if stealthily.

Processing Question Struggling with editing graduation photos, could really use some advice! SOS

Hey everyone!
I could really use some help here. My partner and I run a photography business together. He's responsible for taking the photos, while I handle all the post-processing.
The problem is, I have no idea what's going on with me lately, but I just can't seem to get the edits right. No matter what I do, I'm never satisfied with how the photos turn out, especially when it comes to colors, skin tones, and making the subjects stand out naturally.
I'm starting to feel pretty overwhelmed because we have a batch of graduation photos to deliver by next Monday, and I feel like I'm getting nowhere.
I'll attach a RAW file, and I'd genuinely appreciate any editing tips, suggestions, or even examples of how you'd approach editing it.
I'm aiming for a natural, slightly warm look with flattering skin tones and enough contrast to make the subject pop without looking overedited.
Thanks so much in advance! Any help would mean a lot right now.

HELP - Lightroom Classic Sony Camera Matching

Bodies: Sony A7III and A7IV

Currently on the latest version of Lightroom Classic. The RAW camera matching profiles aren't even close to the colors in camera. What can I do to get the base of my edits a lot closer to the JPEG output?

Camera matching standard and portrait specifically have been garbage for the last few updates. Do I need to reconfigure something??? They're comically overly saturated on purple, red, green, and orange.

If I start the photo in Photoshop the colors look a lot closer, but I can't run a 500+ batch through photoshop.

HELP - Lightroom Classic Looking to speed up Crop & Straighten workflow

My final pass when editing is to use the Crop & Straighten tool (Win keyboard shortcut R). Depending on the photo I'll choose between the aspect ratios Original, 4x5 and 5x7 and try an auto angle adjustment.

I've been searching, but Adobe's keyboard shortcut page doesn't list keyboard shortcuts for these actions, and the websites that do list some options don't appear to work on the current version.

Anyone know keyboard shortcuts that work in LrC 15.5.1?

HELP - Lightroom “Archive album locally” Stuck 90% of the times.

I’m losing my mind over this, so I’d appreciate any help.

I use my company Adobe account for personal photography and only use Lightroom cloud. (I know Im dumb). Worried about losing access, I’m trying to back everything up to an external drive. The “Archive album locally” feature is painfully slow and 90 % of the times it gets stuck. (I don't have huge albums, Im trying to keep them around 200 photos max)

Is there another way to back up my photos while keeping both the RAW files and edits? Am I missing something?

Discussion Sliders & Update

Hey,

Does anyone else experience a slider malfunctioning since the update?

The sliders will immediately go to -90 if I want to adjust them. The only way to make them work is to type the number I want it to be.

HELP - Lightroom Mobile Photo datetime wrong in Lightroom

I took some photos right after midnight 00:09 - 00:59. Why these rw2 files datetime is +1 in Lightroom but correct in mobile phone gallery? I find it difficult to understand why photo taken 00:09 is 01:09 in LR but 00:09 in mobile gallery. Camera and mobile phone datetime are correct.

HELP - Lightroom Classic old chestnut: Problems with merging large LRc catalogs

an old problem - and I've done my digging, but I'm wondering if there is a *real* solution
LRc:

I keep a "master" catalog of about 900K images and a "working" catalog that I use for a few years, then merge into the master catalog. Working catalog is now about 60k images.

ALWAYS gives me trouble when merging catalogs. Workarounds in the past included slowly importing bits and pieces of the current catalog into the master.
Just tried recently, but now I always get (after 30 min or so) "Lightroom could not import this catalogue because an unknown error occurred."

I have tried optimizing both catalogs, exporting both as copies and trying to merge those, but zero luck.

Anybody had luck getting around this?
thanks

Discussion The Obsession with AI

Dear Adobe Team,

please put an end to this ongoing AI obsession.

Sure, AI-powered masks and dust spot removal are useful and popular, no question about it. But it feels like with every release of Lightroom, new AI features are added that are increasingly questionable. Is this still about photo editing, or is Lightroom’s new goal to become a program that uses AI to generate video or images?

I’d much rather see you focus on bringing useful and missing features and options from Lightroom Classic over to Lightroom.

For example, I'd like to have the option to automatically eject the memory card after importing, create my own export presets, display more EXIF data on the information page (exposure compensation, white balance, etc.), reset only a photo's edits without changing the crop I've made, and so on. There are certainly many existing great and useful ideas.

Thank you! A long-time Lightroom user.

HELP Intel Arc GPU with Lightroom

I'm thinking about buying the Asus Zenbook 14 UX3405CA (with the Core Ultra 7 255H, Intel Arc 140T and 32GB RAM)

My main concern is Lightroom.. I understand there were issues with Intel Arc GPUs, especially with AI Denoise, masks and other GPU-heavy features.

Does anyone here actually use this laptop (or another laptop with the Arc) with Lightroom?

I'm mainly wondering:

- Is Lightroom generally smooth and stable?

- Does AI Denoise work properly?

- Any crashes, freezes or weird GPU/driver issues?

- Have Intel/Adobe driver updates improved things recently?

I'm planning to keep the laptop for several years, so I'm a bit worried about choosing Intel Arc if Lightroom compatibility is still hit or miss.

I don't need crazy performance, I just want Lightroom to run smoothly and reliably.

Would love to hear from people who actually use Intel Arc with Lightroom.
