I love using background themes on my older copy of libreoffice - it's a small thing but it makes work that much nicer when I'm not staring at a black background constantly. Is there any way to still use themes in the most recent versions of libreoffice?
I'm aware we can use light/dark themes, but I'm really missing this level of customization. If there are any add-ons that bring this feature back I'd love to know!
I recently switched from MS Word to LibreOffice, but sometimes I forget to open the menu to open it with LibreOffice. I'd like to have Word (and .odt, ideally) documents open in LibreOffice by default, but I can't remember how. I'm using a MacBook Pro with Tahoe 26.6.2; do I need to change this in my system settings or LibreOffice settings?
Edit: TalkToHoro's instructions worked! I'm going to ELI5 for the benefit of any hypothetical future reader with the same problem.
I had already tried right clicking the file and using "Open with…", which I was already doing to open the files in LibreOffice, but that menu didn't have an option for making LibreOffice the default. What worked was going to "Get Info" in the menu (or using the ⌘i keyboard shortcut) and going down to the "Open with" menu; underneath, it said "Use this application to open all documents like this one" above a button reading "Change All…", which became clickable after I used the menu to change it to LibreOffice. This is what it looked like.

As the title says, this strange box randomly appeared in the ruler bar above my document. It puts a hard stop on where my text can go, and the margin indicators shift with it for some reason. I haven't been able to find what it's called or how to get rid of it, so any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm having a frustrating issue with LibreOffice Writer and the Navigator panel.
Whenever I browse through my list of saved bookmarks, selecting/clicking on a bookmark automatically resets the Navigator scroll position back to the very top of the list.
This makes navigating through a document with many bookmarks very inefficient, as I constantly have to scroll all the way back down to find where I was and select the next one.
What I need: I want to be able to scroll through the bookmarks list, click/select a bookmark, and keep the list at its current scroll position so I can continue browsing from where I left off.
Is there a hidden setting, a workaround, or a specific key combination to prevent the Navigator from jumping back to the top? Or is this a known bug/limitation?
I view my pages at 133%. However, the custom zoom is set to 150% and LW always defaults to that on opening. I did once get it to remember 133%, but after an update, it defaulted to 150%, and it's stuck on that. Yes, I can change it on opening LW, but that's not the point.
Hi, I desperately need help. I reently switched to linux (Ubuntu 26.04) and libre office (4:26.2.6.3-0ubuntu0.26.04.2) and libre office writer freezes with all of my documents. I'm currently working on a 13MB document, 57 pages long, and doing the most basic things (copy/paste, save etc) will make LO freeze and display the message "libre office isn't responding, you can wait or force to quit". Sometimes i wait and it unfreezes, sometimes i have to quit. Idk if it's relevant but I'm working on a remote file.
I tried opening in safe mode & updating libre office, it doesn't change anything. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to linux and have never coded in my life before switching to ubuntu, so if you have an idea of how to fix this, i'd really appreciate if you explain it in the simplest way possible.
(last resort would be to switch back to WPS office which i used before and worked great, but i hate the forced AI features) thank you to anyone who can help!
Every time I try to start up Libre Office Writer it asks me if I want to recover the same document (an .odt). No matter how many times I discard, recover or outright reinstall Libre Office this prompt just keeps coming back on startup across multiple versions. Currently on 26.8.0.3 for Windows 11. Running as administrator has also failed to fix this issue. Even asking it to discard the document leads to a screen which says 'The automatic recovery process was interrupted' and will insist I save a copy anyway. Saving or clicking cancel makes no difference to the prompt reappearing every damn time.
I feel like this is something simple I'm probably missing here, but: I have a manuscript format that's basically the Shunn style, which requires chapter titles to be about three inches down from the top of the page. This is the "Heading 1" style in my document, and the style has the space above value set to 3".
The problem: these chapter headings always occur after a page break, so they're at the top of the page, and LibreOffice ignores the space above value. Instead of appearing 3" down from the top, the chapter headings appear as the first line.
Is there anything in the style that I can do to fix this? Use a different kind of break?
I'm trying to work on some manual forms using LibreCalc that need to fit onto single printed pages.
In Excel (Screenshot attached), I heavily rely on Page Layout View because it allows me to edit data and format cells live while clearly seeing the page boundaries, margins, headers, allowing me the best use of page space, to see what fits and what gets cut off.
Page Layout in Excel
In Calc, I know about Print Preview, but it's a read-only mode. Is there a way or a setting to get an active editing modewith a page-by-page visual in Calc?
Anticipating those who might suggest Page Break Preview: it doesn't solve this issue, because it only shows blue boundary lines on a continuous grid and automatically collapses around cells with actual text. I'm designing a form to be manually filled (many empty cells), and Page Break Preview hides those empty areas or distorts the page boundary. Also, it hides actual margins, headers/footers, and page spacing, turning a simple layout adjustment as a guessing game compared to Excel's active Page Layout View.
I really want to move my work fully to Libre suite, ditching M$ Office away, what would be the best workflow in Calc for designing page-constrained forms dynamically without constantly toggling Print Preview?
I'm trying to install 26.8.0.3 on a fresh installation of Windows 11.
Windows 11 is set-up with English as the language (the texts) and Italian as the locale (the numbers and dates).
When I run the installer and choose the "Custom" setup type, the "English (United States)" language is not available in the "User interface languages" tree:
This is preventing me from installing because the installer complains that I did not choose any language and is preventing me from proceeding.
The only English languages available in the list are "English (South Africa)" and "English (United Kingdom)".
Also, the installer starts in English but then immediately switches to Italian uncommanded and there is no way to bring it back to English.
This can be worked around by starting the installer through the command line using the command msiexec.exe /i LibreOffice_26.8.0_Win_x86-64.msi ProductLanguage=1033.
I am trying to create a document that has multiple text boxes with the date in them. I want to change the date in one box and all the boxes change automatically. I cannot seem to get this to work using the sync method. Can anyone help?
This is kind of a long question. I basically want to change a PDF in Draw, so each of its pages faces towards me, then copypaste each page into Writer and print it as brochure/booklet (Planning to translate the pdf into another language manually, which is why I am putting it into Draw in the first place.) Current plan is to have each page of the pdf to be in size A5 then copypaste 2 pages each in a horizontal A4.
Is there a way to auto-adjust and resize the group/page into the margins in Draw? If that can be done, are there other things I should do before going into Writer, or if I can just do the whole process in Writer.
If there happen to be videos on this exact topic, will appreciate any links to them aswell.
