Currently looking for a family to volunteer for an infant observation in London.

Hello! My name is Gareth and I have been studying a course about infant development at the British Psychotherapy Foundation.  I have over 4 years of experience supporting children and alongside my studies, I currently work in NHS mental health services supporting children, young people and their families.

As part of my training, I am seeking to find a London based family, who would be willing for me to visit and observe their newborn baby from close to birth and up until their 2 year birthday.

The observations are typically for one hour, once a week, at a regular and convenient time for the first 2 years of your baby's life.  Of course there is a lot of flexibility and weeks where a visit may not always be appropriate.  This includes holidays, illness or any other circumstances that can be discussed throughout.

The purpose of my visits would simply be to quietly and non-judgementally observe your baby and their interactions in your home, in the completely ordinary circumstances of your day to day life.  I would be completely in the background, just listening to you and observing how your baby is behaving and communicating during that hour.  The observation would happen entirely at your comfort level, for example I could leave the room during breastfeeding if that is what you would prefer.  

Overall, this would help me learn deeply about the early development of infants and is a long established training component for child and adolescent psychotherapy training, which I am pursuing.  Previous families report to have found the experience of hosting an observer uniquely rewarding, therapeutic and enriching: a chance to notice more of the small details of their child's early life.

I’m a student from France. Do you think it’s worth doing the MSc in Economics & Finance at KCL with a view to working in London afterwards? Or is it too long and/or difficult to find a job in London as a foreigner, even if you’re from the EU? I have technical skills such as economic analysis and computer programming (R and Python), but I haven’t done an internship yet. I should point out that the only thing that matters to me is the career prospects, particularly as the programme fees represent a significant expense on top of the cost of living in London. Thanks!

I feel like I keep getting rejected at the online assessment stage, and it’s honestly so frustrating. It feels like I can’t even get my foot in the door, let alone make it to an interview.

idk if anyone else feels like this but i’m finding uni quite lonely 😭

I’m at kcl and I feel like i’m struggling to find my people. I’ve met a couple of people since starting uni but I still don’t have that group of friends I can just do things with whenever or just sit around and talk to.

Even living at ssa hasn’t really helped with this either. I thought it would be easier to meet ppl leaving here and make friends. My flatmates are chill, they all have their own individual friend groups tho. It’s got to the point where i’ve genuinely thought about leaving ssa because i don’t want to spend my first year like this.

I bought memberships for a few societies but I haven’t been to any events yet. Some of them haven’t even put any events up so i’m kinda just waiting and with the sports societies i didn’t realise i’d missed the trials so that’s basically out of the picture now lol.

I’m not expecting to become best friends with someone overnight or anything (im not opposed to it) but if anyone else at kcl wants to make some new friends pls message me!! I’d be down to arrange something.

I’m Emirati and based in the UAE, so one of my main concerns is whether the degree would be recognised here, particularly for employment purposes.

I’m still trying to understand how the recognition process works for online degrees from overseas universities, so I was wondering if anyone from the UAE has gone through something similar.

I’m going to be on a very very very strict scholarship they won’t allow my grades to drop below a 65 so I need to make sure I pick a major that doesn’t have calculus nor physics as I cannot for the life of me pass those classes no matter how much work i put in.
