Hmmmm it is orange and it was in the cooling system but I don't think that's orange coolant. 96 B2500 van, short wheelbase, 3.9 V6, just bought Friday for $5,000 with 176K miles.

To that guy that posted the even worse 2.0T chain tensioner, I raise you my wife's Audi 3.2 timing chain

Patient exhibited a rattle noise at startup - worse if sitting for several days. Finally got off my backside and took the engine out, as this wonderful design has the timing chain on the rear of the block.

All four chains, four guides and four tensioners later and it no longer rattles at start - even if it hasn't been started for a week.

Audi also decided to make all the bellhousing bolts out of aluminum. I swear the Germans just do this crap to mess with us for losing the war...

All this for a little dent in the pillar reinforcement.

This one was a doozy, boys.

To answer a few common questions:

Why was this necessary? Why didn't I pull the dent out?Reinforcement is ultra high strength steel. We aren't allowed to repair them AT ALL. The entire piece needs to be changed.

Why wasn't it totaled? Brand new Rebel with only a couple thousand miles on it. Still worth big bucks.

Is it safe? Will it ever be the same? This is a repair procedure developed by Chrysler. As long as it's done by the book, the truck will be good as new. And not to toot my own horn but I've been doing this for nearly 20 years and I'm quite proud of how this turned out.

How many hours was the estimate? 140 body labor, 32 paint.

This car did NOT need to give me an attitude this early in the morning.

Edit: They had a janky ass GPS tracker plugged into the OBD that was causing all their problems, lol

Posted 4 years ago at 145k miles. Here we are at 200k miles. Oil changed with liqui moly Molygen every 6-7K miles.

Barely consumes any oil and runs smooth! Here’s to the next 100k!

Edit: 2012 Porsche Cayenne S. 4.8L V8 NA.

Time to pull the oil pan now..

2017 Land Rover discovery in for timing chain service. Various cam timing codes, accompanied by loud chain rattle on startup. Found the issue to be the intake cam actuator. I found the spring hanging on the timing chain guide, now for the rest of what’s missing… I’ll be pulling the oil pan, I wouldn’t be comfortable releasing this car and having it come back needing an engine.

Also, holy shit the amount of components that need to come off to do this timing chain is insane.

Edit: I may just end up sticking a camera and a magnet down into the oil pan. There might be a big enough opening with the timing cover off now. We’ll see tomorrow

U-Haul left me a gift

Earlier this year I had a hitch installed and was going fucking crazy because of vibrations that started afterward. I did everything I could to insulate between the hitch and the spare tire well it was gutted up against convinced that was what caused the rattle but eventually I emptied everything out and found this under the spare tire. You know what size it is. I would have been so embarrassed if I had a shop look into the rattle.

Suspension of hopes and dreams

Post image

Not a professional repair shop or anything, but I think it fits? no-one should be driving with that :/
It still drove though… without knowing about it, I drove it to the town in the middle of the night to buy bread from the one bakery that opens at 3AM once. Only later was I told that the suspension was severely rusted.

there was a 5th piece, but I guess it fell off somewhere.

mom's car, me and dad were replacing the suspension coil (if I got the name of the part right… since translating car terms is terrible) on her +-2006 audi. I think it's an A4 B6? We had two audis but I forgot which was which.

The rear left coil was snapped near the top so it wasn't that bad, either way, we swapped both the read coils. The torture of not unscrewing much due to the rust build-up on a 4 wheel drive… EU salted roads. I think we used two separate crowbars to get new springs inside. Just imagine doing a standard repair but without a professional setup.

So the rear right side was being held up only by the rear left, front right, hopes, and dreams.

Pic from few months ago, I forgot to post it. Hopefully it does fit the subreddit.

I think the brake warning lamp is the least of your concern my friend! (And yes it sounded exactly like you think it does when put into gear)
